Greendog Motors

Wow. It’s hard to believe that a business operator with such juvenile business practices can stay in business.
YOU ARE FAIRLY WARNED: DO NOT DO BUSINESS WITH THIS SHOP.
Here’s what happened.
Based on the information available on the blog
I determined that my alternator had gone out. I called my regular mechanic at Green Oval motors and left a message with my problem. After no response I called GreenDog Motors to see if they could get to it.
I discovered Greendog after they were mentioned favorably in a negative review for another Rover repair facility down the street from them.
I spoke with the Greendog motors head mechanic, Robert, on the phone and he advised me to call him the next day at noon to see if he could get to the repair before he left for Seattle that afternoon. I called at noon and he was skeptical about being able to get to it, and then after having a conversation with someone else, he said to bring it in and to call him when AAA was ready to pick up my Rover.
When AAA arrived I called and spoke to Tim and he said to bring it over, text him with the location of where it would be dropped, and leave the key inside the mail slot. By the time we arrived a spot had opened up on the Greendog premises right in front of their entry. Tim was still there and we had a conversation for about 30 – 45 minutes. He told me the alternator, which is about a 1 hour job, would be installed later that day or the next morning.
During our conversation I was pretty certain that there was alcohol on his breath, and by the way he was talking with the «swag» about how they got started and how they’re considered, I was wondering if I was making the right decision, especially after he admitted what people say about them
«We do good work, but we’re always late… and we’re assholes»
That was another red flag. Who would ever admit that their customers think they’re assholes… even if it was true… right?
Well… I discovered why.
After being told that my Rover would be done by noon the next day (Wednesday) I called around 4 O’clock that day to see what was up: no answer… left a message. The next day (Thursday) I called about around 9:30 A.M.: no answer… left a message.
By this time I was feeling very uneasy about the situation so I made another call to Green Oval… and Doug answered! He said he was just about to call me as he was buried with business, and told me if I got it over to him he would fix it while I waited.
My next call was to AAA, then I called GreenDog again to tell them not to worry if they see that my Rover is gone because I was taking it to Green Oval.
Within 10 minutes of that message I get a call from Tim at Greendog. I asked him if he received my messages and he said «No» he wouldn’t be in the shop for another couple hours. That’s strange I thought, then why are you calling? Anyway I told him not to worry that I have another key and that I’ll be back for the key he has after they open.
There was no hard feelings on my part at all I just said that I needed the Rover yesterday and it didn’t look like it would be fixed until Robert returned on Saturday, so I’m taking it to Green Oval, and in fact the AAA tow truck should be there in just a few minutes.
Tim seemed just a little upset on the phone… but I don’t know why. They haven’t performed as they said they would, and it didn’t appear like they were going to.
I dropped the Rover off at Green Oval, talked to Doug for a while, then went back to Greendog to see if they were open. They were and Tim was there. He looked at me with a blank face like he never saw me before and I said «I came for my key.»
He said he’s been looking everywhere and couldn’t find it. He said he didn’t know where Robert placed it. I reminded him that Robert had already left for Seattle when I dropped the car off on Tuesday, and that he had the key last. He said Robert was the last one to have it. I said well lets call him and ask him where it is. Tim said Robert was unavailable. I asked «Doesn’t he have a cell phone?» and he looked at me with a dead face and repeated that Robert was unavailable.
So… my estimation is that Tim is being passive aggressive and making me jump through hoops to get my key because he lost business due to his poor business practices. I’m being forced to go back to the shop on Saturday to see if Robert, who has never seen my Rover, can remember where he placed the key, that he’s never touched.
Such a pain in the ass.
I’ll update this with a final result after Saturday. If they come up with my key I’ll take down this review. If not I’ll be filing a small claims action against Tim, Robert and Greendog motors for the cost of replacing the key, the time it takes me to do it, and court costs.
It’s not the 300 bucks for the key: it’s the principal.
I can confirm one thing for sure: Tim’s an asshole.
