So I just got to say, I love Philly cheesesteaks and this place is ok, nothing special. The thing that gets me is the prices here, which is just ridiculous! I payed $ 21 for a mediocre sandwich with mushrooms and a salad… When I was being rung up, the cashier didn’t even tell me the total, probably because he knew that $ 21 was a total rip off for a «ok» sandwich. My cheesesteak turned out to be soggy and all ate was the meat. I wouldn’t recommend going here. Such a total disappointment.

Best Philly in NW Portland. I always get the Wiz classic East Coast. Very friendly. Clean dining room. Only gripe, I wish they were open later and on Saturday so I could enjoy it more. I would recommend Grant’s to a friend.

So let me just admit that I’m not from Philadelphia, and I’ve been there. But these cheesesteaks are odiously bad, in my opinion. I tried both the provolone and the cream cheese on different days-I didn’t go for the whiz. I was not impressed the first time I went, but I thought I just got unlucky, because after all, everybody on Unilocal is raving about this place and it has 4.5 stars. After the second time, I was convinced not to eat here again. I got a whole, but I only ate half and feel bad for wasting the food, but it was just wasn’t good. The meat was way overcooked and didn’t seem very high quality. It was really spindly, almost like ground beef, and it was flavorless. I also didn’t like the roll, which is a pity, because apparently that’s the sought-after ingredient that is key to an authentic Philly cheesesteak. If I were them, I would buy rolls from Pearl Bakery instead. On the positive side, their staff is very friendly.

The food is really good, the Wiz is on point(and I grew up right outside Philly). I like the place, it clean and neat, only thing that makes me double think to revisit are the prices, kinda spendy. Ordered one whole cheesesteak(which isn’t that big), one half, and fries, with a tip, 30 bucks. I know it’s expensive to own your own business, I get it, which is why I give 5 stars. Overall, I would recommend.

Messy cheez wiz cheesesteaks with the works(including the peppers), I think this might be the best place in Portland to grab a cheesesteak. I am really happy that they have a NW location. We usually just share a large, and it’s perfect. Grab a bunch of napkins, as it’s super messy. The people were genuinely friendly, and made us feel comfortable. My favorite place in Portland to grab an original cheez wiz philly!

The specials were tasty, hearty in proportions and weren’t overly greasy. Cozy place to sit, clean environment, and cooking doesn’t make clothes smell which is a really big plus for me.

After a long afternoon of Christmas shopping, I was craving something meaty and cheesy. I’d passed by Grant’s many times before, but never stopped in. I’m not sure what prompted me to today, but I’m glad I did. It was around four, so the restaurant was pleasantly empty. I was greeted by a lovely woman named Elaine, who helped me decide which sandwich to choose. I ordered the original, and took a seat at one of their Christmas décor-adorned tables. My cheesesteak came out quickly, and was topped with peppers. The first bite was magical. I was impressed. Elaine educated me on all the details that go into making the perfect cheesesteak, which made me appreciate my meal even more. I was also given a side of their house-made potato chips. I don’t usually like thick chips, but this is just a personal preference. As I was packing up to leave after feeling very satisfied, another very friendly woman named Diane thanked me for coming in, and Elaine said goodbye as well. Overall, a wonderful experience on a rainy Portland day.

Simply put, one of the best Philly Cheesesteaks I’ve had in a long time. If you’re in the area and hungry, you must give this place a chance. I had the Grant’s original with hot peppers and homemade chips and it was superb! The staff was efficient and friendly. You can’t go wrong here.

Holy moly what a delicious treat. I know that this is 23rd, but I was still a bit surprised when I saw the prices. To please my wallet I went with a half Philly cheese steak sandwich which came with a side of tasty chips. I think this ran me around $ 7.50, which in retrospect is pretty fare given the quality. I do think the fries seemed a bit overpriced. This sandwich melted in my mouth with each bite, and as I sit here at home typing this review I am planning my next trip to Grants. With all the different places up in NW, it’s easy to skip over the philly cheese steak place tucked away down some steps. Don’t miss it, you will not regret trying this one.

I went here once and got two giant cheesesteaks. The sandwiches are huge and taste pretty decent. My biggest concern is with the nutritional value of the food and the location. These sandwiches are in no way, shape, or form healthy… and therefore… I cannot justify eating here. The service was magnificent. I would recommend this place to the unhealthy and obese amongst Unilocal readers.

Really good. Well done Grant’s, pretty darn authentic. Definitely the best one I’ve had on this side of the river. Only complaint is the price. Super expensive.

Cheesesteak was delicious, but the TV was really loud and tuned into Fox News. I don’t think the food was good enough to justify enduring that.

OMGSOOOOOGOOD! get the original with provolone. I could eat the steak all day. The bread was so soft and the pickled peppers made the sandwich heaven. I will always come back! Fresh and awesome!

This place has awesome burgers and cheese steaks, but they don’t serve pork products so you can’t get a bacon burger. Because of that I go to a restaurant down the road that proudly serves pork products and has a BBQ bacon burger on the menu. Start serving bacon burgers and you will get my business again.

This place was alright! I spent about $ 10 on the special which was like a cheesesteak, chips and a soda. I work around the corner so it’s nice to have a good option besides subway. Staff were all friendly and helpful. I paid with a card with ease. It’d be nice if they had a to-go bench to hang out at. I felt awkward standing there waiting the 5 – 10 min. I’ll go back though, no hard feelings. I assume you can order ahead, I just did it spur of the moment. My food was filling and tasty, no complaints. And they make their own chips. As I recall, I had a cane sugar Coke too which is always a plus when places stock this, in my book.

Ordered the Grant’s Original which is steak, provolone, onions, and sweet & hot peppers. The steak is really high quality and the provolone, onions, and peppers compliment the steak to create an overall fantastic cheesesteak. The staff is also super friendly!

I’ve gone to Philadelphia’s Steaks in Sellwood and Highway 43 for many years. I’ve never really known anything else until now. Wow! Grants is where it’s it! Sorry to the other place but this place is tasty! The roll was oh so fresh, the meat and cheese were melted together and the sweet and spicy peppers were seasoned to excellence! I found this place off Unilocal and the reviews hold true. Worth every star! The lady up front was friendly, you can order at the register or sit down and she’ll come to you. Coke products come in the bottle, no fountain style drinks. Homemade chips were unexpected but those were great too! I live about 30 minutes away from this place and it’s worth the trip!

It’s really simple, to have an authentic Philly cheese steak you have to have one main important thing, the roll. It MUSTBE an Amoroso’s roll from Philadelphia or it’s not right. I’m not saying that there aren’t amazing bakeries around town. There are many. Just not rolls that are specifically meant to hold the goodness that is a true Philly cheesesteak. Grant’s has been around for over 11 years on the East side. Their connection to Philadelphia is through the grandmother who was from the Jonestown area. All the current family members who run the place are Portlanders. This location just opened 12 weeks ago. This spot used to be a Lebanese restaurant. I’m not complaining, especially when I stumble upon a good cheesesteak. And it was good. And the roll was perfect. Five types of cheeses are available including Philly cream cheese and Cheese Whiz. They offer 6″ and 12″ sizes and the prices fit the area in Nob Hill. They do have chicken cheesesteak, salads, hot dogs and a vegetarian option as well. But if you’re coming for the first time or know the other location, do yourself a favor and have a cheesesteak. Enjoy.
