I love the food, and the people who work here. There’s always a smile to greet you, no matter how miserable the Portland weather is that day! The food is great — the fries are battered, and deep fried, so it’s super crunchy outside but soft inside. I would love it if they had different hot dog options(the ones they use are good, but it would be good to have an option for others) but no matter, what they have is great. Getting a cheesesteak at a hot dog stand seems like an odd concept, but man, they have a good philly. And yes, I’ve been to Philly and tried their cheesesteaks which always seemd bland to me, but Dog Eat Dawg’s «special sauce» really kicks theirs over the top of even the«real thing.»

Ordered the Cheesesteak from a hot dog place and felt like I was really roliing the dice on this one. To be honest, I set my expectations kinda low. I went Double meat Double cheese, just in case. The guy smiled and kinda looked at me funny. Took a quick moment to figure out the price. Damn, They packed that sandwich full of LOVE!!! I actually had to pull a little meat off the top. Thats a good problem to have. Some random dude saw my sandwich and freaked out, I had to tell him I got extras on it. His answer, «Good Call, I’m gonna try that from now on.» Yes, I tweak my steaks out, but the flavor profile was pretty spot on. Bread, meat & cheese were all co-existing very happily together. They should really market their cheesesteaks a little better because they are Damn good. I would even place this cart in the Cheesesteak category on Unilocal.(and I did) The fries are excellent. I really dig good quality seasoned fries. Unfortunatly, I will probably never order a dog from them because, the fact is, that cheesesteak is hard to pass up on. Well… Maybe Someday…

Killer Phillys and Fries and the Chicago dog rocks too! You gotta love the additional love for the pups that are less fortunate. Thanks for the great food, Service and a shared love of animals.

Dawg Eat Dog is a good fit in a cart pod that features higher than average selection and quality. I’ve been very impressed by the cheesesteak — oniony goodness and great texture overall. The only problem review-wise is that every time I’ve returned, I’ve had another cheesesteak, and have not had a chance to sample the dogs as a result. I’m in complete agreement with other Unilocalers that the gentleman working here is a super-friendly, and a great person to do business with. Dawg Eat Dog is a great addition to the neighborhood.

Sorry, but this was a disappointment. The ‘Chicago dog’ toppings were OK, but the bland dog ruined it. Gotta get the real Vienna if you wanna charge $ 4 for a dog. The fries were pretty decent, and the lady working was very nice.

Where is it you can get a Chicago-style hot dog without traveling all the way to Chicago? Dog Eat Dawg on Belmont that’s where! This«dragged through the garden» dog is about 7″ long & an inch thick. It’s BIG! «That’s what she said!» :-p Anyways, the dog is nestled in a white poppy seed bun(almost too much bun) & topped with a couple tomato wedges, a pickle spear, chopped red onion, sweet relish, a sport pepper, mustard & celery salt. It was delicious & quite filling with all those condiments. The side of fries are very crispy & yummy! The owner seasons them with Lawry’s & garlic salt so let him know if you don’t want it when he asks; he seasons them plenty. The Chicago-style hot dog, fries & drink was $ 6.75 or if you prefer chips instead of fries, it’s $ 1 less. The owner is super friendly & patient & he also provides a lot of recommendations which makes the decision-making go faster & easier. If you’re not in the mood for a kosher-style, all beef hot dog then try a Philly cheesesteak instead. Haven’t tried it but was told it’s one of his popular items.

This place has Lot’s of personality, thanks to the owner. He loves what he does so much that I saw him in a hot dog suit and a grin in the pouring rain, now that’s commitment. Now to the food, The Philly cheesesteaks are really good. The bread is great and all of the proper ingredients make this a great example of a sandwich. The hot dogs are on point. Top notch quality, made from a man who loves his dogs. The fries I believe are tempura battered, which makes them nice and crispy seasoned just right. Their are not many places you can get a whole meal for $ 7.50 including a drink. Props to you guys you really know what your doing.

Hello, new food car pod! What to try? What to try? After circling the pod and reading every menu and promising myself many more«sick» days in the future to come and explore all that Eat Good Food had to offer me, I struck up a conversation with a nice man sitting in a lawn chair in front of the Dog Eat Dawg cart. He proudly talked about the food he served, as proudly as if we were sitting in a 4 star restaurant in New York City. My man friend, a food smart East coast original, decided to take a stab at the Cheese Steak to see if could come close to what he knows is legit. I got tempted by the Dog of the week promo, where $ 1 from my meal was donated to the Oregon Humane Society. A hot dog with pineapple and bacon for a good cause? Why not! My bun was a little soggy, and quite frankly(haha), hot dogs scare me, but the fries! My goodness. Those were worth going back for again and again.

Not a good experience. Filled with false hope and false advertisement. If you want a Real good Steak Sandwich you might as well make it yourself. Especially if you like Pizza Steaks. …but they got mangos. I’m sure that their chicago hot dogs are fabulous.

My husband picked up dinner for us here last night, and it was delicious! I had the Chicago dog, he had the philly cheese steak. The Chicago dog had all the toppings… pickles, tomato, onion, sport peppers, etc. The dog itself was a nice big juicy frank-awesome. I tried a bit of the philly cheese steak as well-it was really tasty, and my husband loved it. He said the owner was super friendly too! Definite new neighborhood favorite.

I lived in South Jersey(20 minutes to Philly, 5 minutes to South Street) for three years and spent a large amount of my time there in Philadelphia. That is the basis for which I say: AMAZING cheese steaks found here! More than just the mouth-gasm I got when eating this delicious c-steak, my boyfriend and I were treated to some East Coast personality(though far less acerbic) along with some great customer service. To wit: It’s been a month since I’ve eaten there and I’m still thinking about it. I’m certain every other edible that comes from this cart is well worth trying and I aim to sample them all!

I tried the Philly Cheese Steak here and was not disappointed! The obligatory white american cheese was melted into an unctuous sauce that perfectly set off the caramelized onions and grilled meat. A nicely crisp roll completed the savory delight. While I was eating I saw a young fellow sit down at another table with a cheese steak and another dish that only the young can enjoy with impunity– a boat of chili cheese fries that had him grinning with enthusiasm!

Dog Eat Dawg is a cart in the new Good Food Here pod on 43rd and Belmont. This cart specializes in Chicago style hot dogs and Philly cheesesteaks. I have a ton of compliments for this cart, so list form is easiest: –Van, the owner of the cart, is super friendly. He really wants you to enjoy what you’ve ordered. –I’ve never had a Chicago style hot dog from anywhere else, but this one is delicious. It’s filled with *stuff* — onions, relish, mustard, tomato, celery salt, sport pepper. Also! if that’s not enough(or if you’re craving some extras), you can add a bunch of extra toppings(grilled onions, grilled peppers, etc) for 50c each. –Cheesesteaks! Meat and onions and cheese on a genuine Amoroso roll(ordered fresh from NJ). The combo of the Amoroso roll and the melty cheese gave me nostalgia. –Cheesewhiz is available upon request. –Battered garlic fries. Yum! –Combo meals include a hot dog or cheesesteak, plus fries and a drink. –I didn’t look too closely so I might have details wrong, but I think that this week Dog Eat Dawg is giving $ 1 of each combo meal sold to a puppy shelter. Good food for a good cause!
