Kate just gave me the greatest haircut! Usually, whenever I ask hair stylist to put some weight off of my hair without too many layers, I end up with so many layers with shorter length.
Kate heard me out and gave me what I wanted: Not too many layers but fluffy light same length haircut! It is the finest service I received in the states.
Plus, she is so fun to talk to.

I am 55 years old and I can honestly say that Colette gave me the best haircut I’ve ever had!

Deanne, you are beautiful, amazing, kind hearted, and talented. I came to you with the most terrible haircut and you manage to fix it. It looks so so much better thanks to you. I first found Ginger Salon, and Stina, five years ago when I was frantically googling salons that were open on a Sunday. I had just had my color botched that day before and needed a stylist to fix me ASAP. Stina rescued me, and my hair, and I’ve been coming to her regularly ever since — both at their Irvington and Pearl District locations. Stina takes such great care of me, accommodates my crazy schedule and always books my future appointments while I’m still with her — so I can always get the appointment times that are most convenient for me. If you follow them on facebook — they will post last minute cancellations you can snag too. I highly recommend Stina; for her professionalism, expertise, listening skills and all around awesomeness.

I’ve been going to Emily at Ginger for years now, and each experience is even better than the last! Not to mention the awesome atmosphere these ladies create. I’ve had services at both locations, and always fully enjoy my interactions with not only Emily, but all the stylists and staff. I always feel 100% taken care of, and leave feeling fabulous every time!

I have had Stina cut my hair for years, and she truly does an excellent job. The customer service from the receptionist Darren though, is another issue. I understand that this salon has gotten so popular there is probably someone else just waiting take take my spot in Stina’s roster, but when I was in a difficult spot with scheduling due to the stylist canceling, the receptionist could have really cared less. And please let me emphasize that the issue is about the receptionist, not the fact my stylist had to cancel. I totally understand life happens. Just because your salon has a ton of great reviews, isn’t an excuse to give sub-​par customer service. Does it mean anything that I’ve been going to this salon regularly for years? Apparently not.

My best friend has done my hair for more than thirty years… since high school! So, after moving to Portland, I was less than thrilled with having to find a new stylist. After three years of traveling to get my hair done, I finally broke down and made an appointment with Nicole at Ginger Salon. I was a little nervous but she made me feel comfortable immediately. Nicole did a beautiful color and cut and I’m happy to say when I travel to see my best friend from now on, it will only involve wine and fun!

Stefanie is amazing! I know I can come here with complete confidence and walk away thrilled with her work every time. She is very thorough in her consultation to make sure she knows exactly what you want and educate you about the process. She is just fantastic!

Jill is a true artist in her craft! I was blown away (no pun intended… ok maybe a little). She not only educated me but turned me on to a new line of products Kevin Murphy that is amazing as well as was very attentive. She was more particular and OCD than me! My hair hasn’t looked and felt this good in a long time! I’ve found my new hair family and home and it’s all because of you Jill! Thanks again

I am super picky with my hair. Like, SUPER PICKY. I used to dread haircuts, but now it feels amazing to know that my hair is in someone else’s hands and the responsibility of making it look good is off me. The picture I uploaded is right after getting my hair razored and styled. I love my hair now! I have a regular girl I see here but seriously all the stylists are amazing. I love drooling over the before and after pics on Instagram secretly wishing I could have my hair done by them all. I go to both locations as one is near my work and one is near my house. Best salon in Portland.

I had an amazing experience at Ginger. My blondification was perfectly executed and had a nice glass of vino while processing.

I almost hate to recommend this salon because they are usually booked so far in advance. I finally got smart so I now have a standing appointment from now to the end of time.
Colleen is amazing! With strategic trims she helped me go from a VERY short pixie to shoulder length hair with minimal grow out pain. She is also, hands down, the best colorist I have ever worked with.
All of the stylists and support staff are very warm and welcoming. Colleen especially is super funny and personable. I like that it’s small salon but they use the latest in computer tech for you to book, confirm and pay for services. My only complaint is that the booking software doesn’t let you ask for the soonest appointment with a particular stylist. You have to choose a date and work from there. All in all, major thumbs up!

I’ve never really written a review like this before. I really like this salon and its stylists, but I really disliked what they did with my hair. The first time I went I saw Joy — super cool gal who seemed really knowledgable about hair. But instead of bringing me back to blonde, I left with a pretty weird hue of orange (and the other stylists kept saying how beautiful the color was). Ok — maybe I was seeing things and I’d warm up to it. A few days passed and I was like whoa, ok I really do have ORANGE hair. I’ve had a few weird dye jobs in my life, but I’ve never done anything about it. But this one was embarrassing.
So I made an appointment to have it fixed. They were super sweet and got me in really quickly with Stephanie — who was also really nice and also seems super knowledgable. She toned down the orange and brought me back to blonde — but where there was once dimension, now it was just one flat color. She also added a really dark color to my back and sides to cover up the orange, and now it looks like my head has been sprayed with that dark hair spray that bald guys use. It’s a super harsh line between the blonde and this intense dark color (that’s darker than my natural color), and I look a damn fool.
Rather than go back for a 3^rd correction, I’m going to go somewhere else and hope my hair doesn’t all fall out from all this dying. In an effort to not totally break the bank, I called and asked for a refund which they promptly gave me. I think that move held a lot of integrity, and for that, I give 4 stars. Even though my hair sucks, the staff is really nice and their way of doing business is good.

This is my love letter to Deanna.
At the risk of ripping open an old wound, one of the newer stylists at Ginger (can’t remember her name) gave me a pixie that was like nothing I’d requested on my first visit to the salon. (I’d brought in pics, for that show-​and-​tell period you always have with a new stylist.) I went from «a little shaggy» to «Sloth from ‘The Goonies’» in one fell swoop.
I like to think I’m a tough chick. Maybe not Vasquez-in-«Aliens» tough — but tough enough! When I saw how bad that cut was, though … I won’t lie. I may have gotten a lump in my throat. I may have have misted up a bit.
Whatever. Shut up. Wanna fight about it?
Anyways, when I realized just how bad the damage was (translation: my boss confirmed that no, I COULDN’T hide in a cave for the next two weeks), I reached out to Deanna in a message.
That hairstyling GODDESS just flew in from on high and unleashed her divine powers on this unsuspecting mortal.
She immediately refunded me my money.
She immediately squeezed me into her own super jam-​packed schedule.
She immediately fixed the cut as much as possible (it was SHORT, yo.)
Then, she scheduled me again to CONTINUE to fix it as it grew in. What!!!
Deanna sense of customer service is BIBLICAL in scale. She genuinely loves what she does — and that love is infectious. You can’t help but feel warmly welcomed every time she walks in the room. That’s such a rarity in an owner these days!
I LOVE DEANNA!
If she started a totally nutso cult tomorrow — EVEN AS I RECOGNIZED HOW COCONUTS IT WAS — I would still sign up. Maybe as a lower-​level officer. Treasurer? Bake Sale Organizer? Whatev. Doesn’t matter.
You just know it’d be the best-​coiffed cult EVER.

I don’t know why it’s so hard to find a place that does your hair you want them do. I give really specific directions on what I want and how it should look and still– Ginger is the only place that consistently delivers.
This is by far, the most consistent and skilled salon I’ve found in Portland. All the stylists really listen to what you want and are super knowledgeable about what works for your hair type and color. I’ve seen at least 4 different stylists since coming here and I’ve left happy each time, though Colleen and Stephanie are my favorites.
I get cut, partial highlights and color and it always looks exactly how I want it to! And if you go in hair down to your waist and then ask to get a pixie cut and to dye your hair platinum blonde, they talk you out of it because they know you’re going to regret it next week. Also awesome!

Why? She is a miracle worker! A gal at UrbanWaxx referred me to Kate, and I’m so glad she did. Not only is Kate fun to talk to, she’s got some impressive skills cutting men’s hair! The fact that she used to work with high profile celebrities in Hollywood proves that she’s got serious talent. And the cherry on top– I only paid $ 40 for a men’s hair cut, practically a steal given what you’d normally pay for a woman of her expertise.
Granted, you’ll have to book at least two weeks in advance, but she’s definitely worth the wait! Go check her out!
