Friendly staff, with a large storefront that beats any of the locations inside of a mall. If you are downtown this is the place to go for your gaming needs.

My Son is a gamer and during our times together, it’s a sure thing that he’ll want to hang out at his favorite card store(Other Worlds) and go to a Gamestop for the latest game of mass destruction. This time was no different, and with the need for some online code thrown in. Gamestops seem to be all over the place(at least in metropolitan areas), but this one had a very local touch, starting with the gamer-owner that was behind the counter. Maybe it’s because we’re at PSU or maybe the nerds have taken over Portland and I was too clueless(and old) to notice. This did slow down the line a bit, as game purchases always seem to involve some long detailed conversation about functionality, plot, or what’s coming on the market real soon. But we had time and if this is all I have to worry about with my young adult Son, then I’m one lucky Dad.

The employees at this Gamestop are probably the nicest you’re going to find in Oregon, I’ve been going here off and on for a few years and everybody is always cool. They don’t push pre-orders on you, which is nice as some of the stores I’ve been to the guys will try to «bro» you into pre-ordering something(«You sure bro? Lots of sick games coming out!») like you’re an idiot. I assume employees are required to ask about pre-orders, so it’s pleasant when you can just have a quick exchange like, «Is there anything you’d like to pre-order?» «Nope, I’m good, thanks.» «Alright, here’s your receipt, thanks for coming to Gamestop!» In fact I make it point to only pre-order at this store because they’re so cool about it. Also, the manager, April, is ultra nice!

Long story short — the remaining balance on a GameStop gift card I had used to make a purchase at this store was stolen by the employee who rang up my purchase. I was pretty surprised the employee would attempt such a stupid thing, but I wasn’t about to get cheated out of my money like that, so I contacted GameStop customer service to explain what had happened. They eventually put me in touch with this store’s Regional Manager, Randy. I am gladly giving this store 4 stars — 5 stars for Randy, minus one for the employee who tried to rip me off. Randy went out of his way to accommodate what happened with my gift card theft, if you will. He contacted me several times to make sure he had all of the details of what happened — a moot point, anyway, since this particular store has video surveillance and, thus, Randy could actually witness the employee who ripped me off in the act of stealing. Regardless of how brazenly stupid his employees may be, Randy actually cares about his customers and will go to no short length to accommodate them. Now, this is hardly the first GameStop to have a problem with employees stealing GameStop gift card balances from their customers — this particular GameStop is hardly the only retail store that has had such a problem. What makes this store different is its Regional Manager, Randy, and his meticulous attention to detail. He will make sure that his customers get what they deserve and that they are treated in a fair and respectful manner. As for his employees caring about their customers — well, if they cared about me as a customer, I wouldn’t be writing this review. Certain GameStop employees at this location may not be the sharpest crayons in the box, but at least their boss knows what he’s doing. UPDATE: I would also like to commend the store’s manager April for also taking the time to make sure that I was satisfied after everything that had happened.

Most mall gamestop experiences are pretty bad. I do like the one out off Sunnyside in Clackamas, but this gem in the heart of SW by PSU is staffed by friendly cool dudes who look out for their fellow gamers. RECOMMEND!

Gamestop has quickly become my go-to shop for my video game needs. They are close to my house and always have a good selection of used titles. It is easy to catch up on some older titles you may have missed or score the newish game and save a few bucks. I am a fan of selling back games I am done with to save a little cash and open up shelf space. These guys have pretty fair used game buying prices and are quick to look up values for you. If you want your new game absolutely as soon as possible this is the place as they frequently host midnight release party’s for the most anticipated games. All in all a good shop, just wish the game industry would get together and drop prices a bit, $ 60 is so much for a game.

Minus one star for being a huge corporation; but that’s not a reflection of this store itself or its staff. On with the review! I wandered in here when I was staying at a friend’s place in Portland for a weekend and was very, very, very(very) pleasantly surprised. Up in Seattle the Gamestops are full of pre-order-pushing clerks, whom are usually unhelpful and not very accommodating. This Gamestop however, it’s well… different. A pretty large and(surprisingly) uncluttered store, lots of space to walk around and not very claustrophobic(unlike the Seattle stores). When I went in the clerks were talking with another customer at the front counter, which was fine as I just wandered around checking out stuff. They asked me a couple times if I needed any help and I told them I was fine. It was a nice change of pace(once again, from Seattle) to be able to just browse without being hassled. I did end up having a couple of questions and they were more than helpful with answering them. Pretty cool folks working there as well, definitely not the typical group you run into at the more corporate game shops(er, stops! :-P). I’ll definitely be checking this place out again next time I make my way to Portland.

This Gamestop is tucked in between a sushi restaurant and a Starbucks on the ground floor of the Broadway building on PSU campus, which is in my opinion, a near-perfect trifecta of coffee, video games, and sushi lunch. Huzzah! For the most part this particular location is just about the same as every other Gamestop, except for the fact that they have the friendliest staff EVER. I’ve had transactions with I’d say about 8 or so different employees at this store on my visits over the last year, and each time they were super awesome and friendly, letting me know what was coming up without blatantly pushing pre-orders I didn’t want, always more than willing to help me find a particular game title, and not one of their smiles ever felt fake.
