Great idea for your Apple pie fix. This stuff is great. They also have other things to deep fry if you are brave. I stick to the apple pie fries and I love it. If u see this cart you«must» go there.

We stumbled upon Sweet Apple Fries in Newberg, OR though they travel around in summer between different fairs. They seem to be based in Portland, but I don’t know if they have a regular location there. I’m not particularly a fan of apple pie usually, or cooked fruits, but we won two gift certificates to this place as part of an event we attended. We got in line(long, but that’s a good sign!) and after 15 minutes or so had our little dishes of «Apple Pie Fries» in hand. What are apple pie fries you ask? They slices apples into wedges, batter them so they get a nice, crispy shell, and then fry them. After frying they get sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar, topped with a huge amount of whipped cream, and drizzled with caramel(or strawberry syrup and white chocolate chips, with ice cream as an add-on). We knew we wouldn’t get to ours right away(we also won gift certificates for elephant ears, popcorn and cotton candy, lucky day I guess), so they immediately offered to give us the whipped cream on the side. The result was a HUGE drinking cup filled with whipped cream and caramel sauce haha. As she handed it to us, a bunch of people around us exclaimed that they wanted to just order that. Mmmm. We ate a few of the apple pie fries while hot, and they were good! Sweet with a lingering touch of sourness, and perfectly crispy on the outside. Nice batter! What really made them stand out though was when we tried them cold. Delicious! Suddenly the firmness of the apple shone through, we were surprised it maintained so much texture after frying. And the batter stayed remarkably crisp. So if you find this cart somewhere, grab one for now, and one for the road!
