This place is great in my book. I live in East Portland but now my daughter lives in NW so it has been fun discovering all the food choices in the area. Dick’s is a fun place with such a interesting & diverse menu. Coming in and reading the chalkboard specials — lamb burgers, roasted beets, 2 – 3 homemade soups — is always a treat. The sweet potato fries are the best I’ve had. Every soup I have tried has been different and good. I have to admit there are many things I haven’t tried because I do have my favorite — the Zizou burger — which I usually get. Great in summer with the outside tables and big airy windows. Give it a try. I see there is one also on the Eastside but I haven’t tried it.

My woman and I ate here yesterday, I’ve eaten here numerous times because I like the food a lot. We had boozy milkshakes(amazing), a buffalo burger(amazing), the burger with pimento cheese(amazing), 2 orders of fries(really good). I would recommend the burger anytime, the fries are good, the kale salad is good, the boozy milkshakes are friggin great. It’s worth spending 13 dollars for a burger and fries when you know that your food is antibiotic free and coming from local ranchers with open pasture cattle. That all being said… There were some serious server issues including; not checking in with us, an inordinately long time getting our food, no water coming to the table, and the male and female bartender were loudly mocking a couple that come into the restaurant, evidently regularly, because they don’t tip. I have had such positive interactions with the staff previously that I was taken aback by the attitude of the staff on this visit. I brought my issues up with the manager at the time and he was amazing! I wanted to express to the manager that my woman and I wanted to enjoy a nice lunch but the service soured the experience. He listened to me attentively and gave us a coupon for a free burger on our next visit. I wasn’t expecting to get a coupon or anything else but the manager ensured that next time I’m in the mood for a burger and fries I’ll come back here. Thanks Mr. Bearded Manager

The burgers were really great. So if you’re looking for outstanding to go food this is the place for a burger. However, the service was terrible. We sat for 30 minutes before we ordered. The place was only ½ full so being too busy was not the explanation. We finally asked the manager if someone could take our order. He was not pleased to be stuck with the job. We were amazed watching the wait staff clear tables or hide in the back rather than take an order. Then after waiting another 30 minutes for the food we asked the manager(who was sitting down eating) about the status of our food. Again, annoyed, he reported to us our yam fries had burned which delayed our order. Finally the food came(excellent) which we inhaled, all the while no one ever came by our table to refill our beverages. We were not visited once by the wait staff-only the manager when prompted by us. Finally when it came to pay the bill we set our payment on the table and watched as the staff walked by the payment, maneuvered around our table to close the blinds, and cleared other tables. All that to say… take it to go.

Dick’s Kitchen is delicious! So glad I found this restaurant on my trip to Portland. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. Great variety on the menu! Options for vegetarian, paleo, and gluten free. They are very conscious of what they are serving their customers. Jeff the chef even came out to introduce himself to our table to see if there was anything we needed and told us a little more about the restaurant and their menu. We ended up trying all of their house made gluten free sauces to mix and match with our orders. It was nice to indulge in a burger and feel healthy and good afterwards. They took special care to make sure my meal was prepared completely gluten free without contamination. And can we talk about their kombucha on tap? Wow! This restaurant is right up my alley. I loved it so much that I went back three times in two days. Couldn’t stay away from the gluten free burger with pimento cheese. This place was so fantastic that I don’t understand why there isn’t a line out the door to get in. Highly recommend it.

I was having a bad day, who hadn’t w the torrential down pours, basement flooded, water main broke at work, and I proclaimed it as I walked through the doors of Dick’s Kitchen to take myself out to lunch. I asked to plop down right on the comfy pillows that align the window. Jennifer was so sweet, in addition to the fact I love the Dino kale salad with hazelnuts and generous blue cheese, the new housemate potato buns for the burgers are amazing, Jennifer brightened my day by giving me togo a peanut butter parfait! Dang! Sweetest gesture ever which made my day after some retail therapy w my best friend, we split it complete w raspberries and chocolate.

I was told this is the best burger in Portland… While I haven’t been to enough places in town to confirm, the Miss Piggy with pimento cheese was one of the top 5 burgers I’ve ever had… My family very much enjoyed their food too. My 13 y/o daughter raved about the quinoa chicken soup! My wife was impressed by how fresh everything tasted. We were there around 2pm December 5th and the waitress was fabulous, one of the nicest waitresses we ever met! To bad we didn’t get her name

Saw outside that the Dork burger was current special. Had heard about it: duck and pork. Wow. Absolutely blown away by how delicious it was. «Topped with bacon — orange marmelade onions» or something to that effect. Couldn’t have been better. Juicy. Fascinating blend of flavors. Chose a special side as well, kale and chard. Gotta love your greens, no disguise, but fresh, not overcooked, tasty. Would go again in a heartbeat. Tempting menu, lots more to try. Love it!

This place was decent. I always walked passed this place and thought it was spendy. It really wasn’t, it was pretty average. I guess I wasn’t really in the mood for burgers. I usually check out the menu before I try a new place but I was starving. OK so a must if you try out Dick’s kitchen are the yam fries with the chiptole aloli and the water buffalo slider. I got the sliders and my boyfriend ordered the miss piggys burger, he loved it. I wasn’t overly impressed with the other two sliders I ordered that were beef. Also, the pickles were amazing and homemade. I know kinda a hodge podge of good and meh things, but if you are starving there are some good things on the menu.

The food was great and the menu was eclectic. Even in Portland it’s not a guarantee that restaurants have such great options on their menu for vegetarians and gluten free at a burger joint. The options are much appreciated. And I hear the grass fed beef is good too.

What I liked: The burger. What I disliked: Having to wave down a server to order. Paying $ 10 for a glass of wine and getting it in a scotch glass(x3). Ordering a side dish… that side dish arriving on top of my burger. Our table being wiggled around by the owner in attempt to fit in a much larger group than a «4 top» next to us. Paying with cash and the server saying/asking«I assume you want change…»…It was a $ 60 tab. I paid with a $ 100 bill. Yes, I do want my change ya mash potato head. The owner hovering around his staff/kitchen/restaurant – you know you make them nervous and that’s why I assume the service was bad. You should not be there on a busy Friday night. Alsi – if you are going to charge $ 10 for trader joes wine you should at least take your camo hat off while you ruin everyone’s night. Conclusion: I’m from Portland. I live in Portland. I’m as Portland as it gets… this place is a tourist trap for those whom wish to think they are experiencing the NW food scene… or some other non solid excuse I’m trying to come up with to explain away this place’s problems.

Incredible food! Gluten free, dairy free, egg free options. They’re flexible mixing and matching. Celery Root soup was to die for! So delicious! GF, DF, V. Salmon Burger on bed of Kale with a vegan Caesar dressing. Super delicious! Grateful for this delicious restaurant that is also allergy friendly. Service was also prompt, very friendly, and we had multiple staff check in on us to see if all was well. Also– loved the cushioned bench seating surrounded by pillows.

We were hoping our last dinner in Portland would be memorable and our meal at Dick’s Kitchen fit the bill. Our waitperson was very personable and explained all the specials and a few extras that weren’t on the menu. We also liked the décor that featured photos of Misters Cavett, Clark, Smothers, Gregory, Martin, Branson, Chamberlain, Nixon and The Third! I ordered the Vegetarian Gumbo(so well seasoned I didn’t miss the andouille sausage or Tasso ham), baked yam fries(the light dusting off sea salt offsetting the sweetness of the potato) and a delicious coconut chocolate vegan shake. My dining partner had the Chicken Caesar Salad and a Mac & Jack’s Amber Ale, both satisfying choices. The prices were incredibly reasonable, especially since I’m used to CA sales tax! Well, what can I say about Dick’s, it’s a few blocks away from my house and it’s a staple vegan junk food… not to be confused with paleo junk food which is an omnipresent following for this«hip» diner. Their BBQ vegan burger and air yam«not fries» with the paleo parfait is what makes this place worth the visit. However, steer slightly off course and you’re in a food quandary of classic diner sourced locally. A dichotomy indeed… Their sangria was made with orange juice(akin to minute made) however, the vegan coconut bliss boozy shake was enough to draw anyone out of their hangover reclusivity/Netflix dwelling. Stay away from vegan burger at all costs. Service is always consistently good and they are pretty honest about the choices to go with.

I just paid $ 3 for 5 pieces of steamed broccoli. Its not that I’m cheap but for a la carte sides, you could at least put some effort into them. My water glass had someone’s lipstick and service was slow. Food was mediocre.

We had a very pleasant meal here. They have lots of options depending on your dietary needs, leaning towards healthier options but not rabbit food by any stretch. Had a lovely local IPA and a boar burger, which really had a nice pork flavor(I’ve had boar before but it seldom tastes that notable) with the spicy kale as a side. I tried to not-fried fries my husband had and they were pretty good too and they offered gluten free buns(one of the reasons we came here was because it had a «gluten free» label in Unilocal.) Our friend had the right idea and got the slider meal so she got to try two different burgers! Did take a while to get our food but it was a very pleasant meal overall.

I kind of wonder if Dick’s kitchen is mixing too many styles of ‘healthy’. It reminds me of my college days in Eugene… (harp plays dreamy introduction) When I was at the U of O, I fell in with the hippies and hence was invited to potlucks and other such get togethers. The food was mostly vegetarian and sometimes vegan. After a while, I learned a valuable lesson. When being invited to a vegetarian potluck, one must eat first. I always left hungry and wondering if I would ever make meaningful use of my taste buds again. Back to the present. Paleo food doesn’t have to suck or even come close to sucking. Sometimes at Dick’s kitchen, paleo food sucks. While I truly enjoyed my Kale Caesar salad with a burger patty, my date’s Thai Chicken salad was pretty bad. The dressing was like a bunch of thai tastes that didn’t work together. Plus the chicken was mostly boneless. It just had that vegetarian«just add spices to make up for the lack of flavor» taste to it. I take one day a week off from eating paleo, so I can eat out at much yummier places. But I hope that if I desire to dine out on my paleo days that there are good tasty choices out there.

The food at Dicks is very«clean,» which is obviously the gimmick here, but that’s about as far as the enjoyability goes. I ordered a classic burger to see why the place is always packed. While the meat is of high quality and had a nice texture, I was amazed at the entire lack of flavor happening with the sandwich. Every bite was just… meh. The«not-fries» were unfortunately soggy and flavorless, but as there are lots of ways to make delicious, crispy«fries» without actually frying potatoes, I don’t think the lack of oil can be used as an excuse for their blandness. Even the bizarre chipotle-ketchup didn’t help. This unadorned burger comes with a price tag of nearly $ 8 just on its own. Fries are extra. I think I’ll go elsewhere next time.

This is great! Health food that tastes great. I’m going back again and again. Love the turkey burger. And the fries are legendary. But they are really big fries. As they call them no-fries. They use real spuds and bake them. Love this. Less than 50% of the calories of real fries.
