My company ordered from this place via Delivered Dish while we were in a training session. I ordered the French Dip with the soup of the day. The sandwich itself was nothing to write home about — your standard mass produced bread wrapped in excess around a lackluster amount of roast beef. The jus provided for dipping was basically salt water; since when is beef brother the equivalent of a salt lick?! Both were maybe lukewarm if not cold. For some reason they included a cup of jello with my order, along with the orders of the rest of my colleagues. Not a single cup was actually gelatin texture. All of it was completely liquified. Did they put the jello in the microwave instead of the sandwiches? Apparently they forgot to microwave the soup along with the jello, because the bland soup that tasted like milk with the occasional broccoli bit was ICECOLD. Worst lunch I’ve had in some time, and can’t believe it cost my company 10 bucks.

First of all I work right down the street so I eat here often… probably too often. The food is very fresh and I love all the soups. For a place with no grill and normally one person behind the counter they do a very good job. They do have quite the lunch rush between walk-ins and phone-ins…and depending on the day the amount of immediate friendliness varies — but the girls do warm up when they get a breather. No frills, just good food(they could make the jello a jello shot… but that’s just this gals opinion…)

A co-worker of mine has always raved about the cheese steaks from a place called Harry’s, just down the road from the Portland airport. I happened to get done early and got checked into the hotel at 1PM for tomorrow’s flight, so I figured I’d give it a try. Well, Harry’s showed up in the GPS, but there was nothing but a building with a for rent sign. I saw a place down the street with a couple tables with umbrellas outside, so I went there. Somewhat small place, 1 guy outside and 1 couple inside on a Tuesday around 1:20. They have video poker and you can buy lottery tickets as well. I almost walked out after I stood at the counter and watched the lady making an order for the guy outside not acknowledge me(not even an «I’ll be right with you»). She finally acknowledged me and was actually very friendly from then on out. Just in her zone I guess, but I was really 2 seconds from leaving. I ordered a cheese steak with a side of potato salad. The potato salad was very good, not loaded with mayo. This was not, however, a cheese steak. It was a roast beef sandwich with cheese, sauteed peppers and more mayo than I have ever consumed in my life. The first half was OK, but the second half literally turned to mush after the first bite. I had to go inside and get a knife and fork to finish(I probably only actually ate half all together, but it was OK, just not even close to a real cheese steak). I’d imagine the other sandwiches are better, just make sure to ask for light mayo unless you’re a huge fan.

Devaki’s Deli is sooo yummy! The owner is a total doll, and makes a killer sandwich. Some of the best house made soup I’ve ever tasted. She’s usually crowded at lunch time, but still manages to get your order out with a quickness! I highly recommend the turkey melt(with mushrooms!) on a croissant… so good!

I work nearby and when I want the BEST gyro in Portland, I come here. The sandwiches are good too. Nothing fancy or pretentiously gourmet, just good old fashioned deli food served with a smile. The tortellini soup is also very tasty. Cute little cup of jello with sandwiches is a nice touch. Clean place, friendly owner/staff and quick service. And I have to repeat: highly recommend the gyro. Consistently delicious.

I visit this area occasionally to deal with vendors nearby. My «hunger alarm» alerted me that I’d overlooked breakfast and it was almost 1:30PM, but I’ve had enough of fast food and carbon-copy burgers, so I was pleased to see this little delicatessen, which has been in business in this location under current ownership for five years. Obviously, I am too focused on traffic to be aware of my surroundings. My timing favored me; the lunchtime crowd had dissipated, and there were but a few customers in the small deli. I enjoyed my turkey melt on a croissant, a side of fresh potato salad, and a small cup of Jell-O, and I drove on refreshed. If you are in the area and you too have had enough mass-produced fast food to last a lifetime, this is a worthwhile stop. Located near the southeast corner of 122nd and Marx, next to a small computer store, I’ll be the first to admit that this small establishment is easily overlooked… but give this location a try.
