As their name implies, Old Country Sausage is a place where you can get lots of different kinds of house made sausage, either to eat there in their deli or to take home. In addition to their sausages, they also have different kinds of prepared meats for making sandwiches. The girl at the front counter was helpful when I asked for suggestions.. .I decided to order the bratwurst since she said that was a popular«mild» sausage. She also asked if I wanted the bun or not, and I chose no bun since I probably wouldn’t have eaten all those extra carbs anyway. I was pleased to discover that I was charged only $ 3.00 instead of the regular $ 5.75.. .so the«no bun» discount is substantial. I wanted to have potato salad on the side, and she advised me that their warm German potato salad is made in-house whereas the American potato salad is not. I like things that are house made so I chose the German. Yes, the girl at the counter was helpful and provided good service. I really liked the bratwurst and German potato salad. They were both really tasty. I would have liked the bratwurst even more if it was grilled instead of boiled.. .but it was still good. So, that was a perfect lunch! I’ll be back to try some of their other things too.

The bratwurst at Old Country Sausage Company are delicious! We cooked the bratwurst, Kielbasa and Octoberfest in a cast iron skillet and served them on their fresh baked rolls. The casing snaps! I grew up in Portland and now live in Los Angeles so last time I was in town I: bought a couple pounds of brats and had them vacuum sealed; froze the brats overnight; carried them in a cold bag onto the plane; and now we’re enjoying Old Country Sausage Company brats in LA. Next time I plan to buy more! It’s better than what I’ve tried at Alpine Village and Schreiner’s. By the way, their fresh baked pretzels are also yummy… chewy, moist and the perfect size!

What a lovely surprise! I great European deli, market and café. I LOVED the deli meats we got and the fresh rustic German bread was straight memories from my Austrian grandmother. I had the schnitzel sandwich, which not complicated I’ve had more than my share of over breaded over oiled fried patties. This was good.

I have been a long term customer of Old Country Sausage and enjoy the meats. Last week I bought some organic whole grain German packaged bread without preservatives that I know I like. It was on sale for 99cents. I bought 4. $ 4 isn’t much of an investment but too much to throw away. The bread was a little dry and when I searched the package I found the expiration date UNDER the price tag. Guess how old the bread was? The expiration date was January 2014. That is a year and a quarter out of date! They said they would return my money if I brought it back. But I live far away and am not in the neighborhood very often. They were unsympathetic and said that is why it was 99 cents. I eat and buy out of date stuff all the time but nothing over a year old. This experience puts everything else they sell under suspicion.

Great selection of some German products mixed with some Romanian and other eastern European items. I was there for lunch with my wife and daughter, and the mici plate(skinless sausages), two sausage special, and currywurst were good — but this was the whole sausage in a bun with curry ketchup and curry powder, instead of the typical preparation(sliced, pan-fried, and sauce/powder on top and fries on the side). The dried garlic sausage at the deli counter was also delicious, as were a couple other samples I tried. The real killer here is the German bread — dough is provided by a German wholesaler called Deutsche Baeckerei, and the bread is then baked on-site. If you’re looking for fresh, truly authentic German bread(outside of whole grain Schwarzbrot), this should be your go-to. Some people have mentioned the décor — it’s nothing to write home about, and the magazines from 1991 are somewhat entertaining, but the real point of this place is the food, and what you lose in ambiance is made up in price.

Great place to get your German or Hungarian fix! When I was a little girl, my grandma would make all sorts of wonderful German dishes, and I was so excited when I found this place. Now I can make Grandma’s signature dishes with ingredients directly from Germany!

We stopped in just to buy their sausage. I got their wieners, pepperoni and four other sausages that ranged from spicy to mild. All types deserve 5 stars. They make them all on site without preservatives. I must have gotten about 3 lbs. and the bill was only $ 16! The service is also worth noting. The guy behind the counter was friendly and glad to answer our questions. He offered samples of whatever interested us. I expect this place will become a habit.

Parkrose has the largest concentration of German in Portland, who would have known?! Many Germans settled in Portland downtown in the area between Lair Hill and the now Auditorium area. They were displaced by urban renewal. Then they settled on Alberta, and were displaced by African Americans moving from the Vanport Flood. This business operated for 25 years under the same German family ownership. 5 years ago a new family purchased it and they can be found making it work daily. They make sausages and have a prepared meat counter. The store is filled with German grocery goods, in the sense of greater Germany, including surrounding countries. They have pickles, preserves, honey, drinks, cookies, crackers, candy and even German personal care products. They have a spot for lunch and dinner too. I had their special of the day a choice of two sausages, German potato salad and sauerkraut. The German potato salad did not equal my family’s version. The sauerkraut was pleasingly dry, usually sauerkraut swims in juice. The sausages were great, though not spicy, perhaps that’s the German tradition. The store could stand for an interior redesign and some branding, But no one would doubt its authenticity. The food is tasty and inexpensive. And the shop goods are fascinating, it would be great shopping for unique food gifts from old Europe!

I checked this place out after visiting the German Bakery next door. They have a great assortment of sausages and meats and other goodies. The lady and daughter who I assume are the owners were very friendly and gladly offered samples of stuff to see what I liked. I ended up getting some homemade jerky, and some German salami, and a couple drinks. Definitely will stop in again to try some other stuff. Also maybe lunch as they said they had many options to choose from. Very friendly. Worth the trip from West side of Vancouver area. I’ll be back.

WOW! That sums up our experience. Many months ago I had dined across the street at the Dim Sum place and saw Old Country. They were closed though so wasn’t able to stop in. This past weekend my brother and I were in the area and he was hungry(I had already eaten an hour earlier) when I saw Old Country and remembered I had wanted to try it. My brother isn’t generally a fan of this style of food, but he was game. We sat down and ordered the daily special. 2 Sausages with House Made Sour Kraut and House Made German Potato Salad for $ 7. The Sausages were flavorful, moist and a true delight. The Potato Salad was fantastic. Not too vinegary like many other places which I don’t enjoy too much vinegar. The Kraut had a mild flavor and again wasn’t too vinegary which made for a better enjoyment. I asked my brother how he liked his food and he loved it. He even told the server that he generally doesn’t like this type of food but he loved it soo much he’ll be coming back. I will be too.

This place is an ok mom n’ pop shop. It’s sort of an all-in-one… you got your deli meats to the side, groceries in the middle, and restaurant tables to the other side… Prices and food were decent… Nothing really stood out. Their reuben sandwich was ok, I’ve had better… Sauerkraut was also ok, overall, an «ok» restaurant. Well deserving of 3 stars! If in the area(near the airport), and you want to try something new, try this place out. Never hurts to try!

This place is so great. I’ve never been to Europe, but I feel like I’m in Germany when I walk into the shop. Prices are very reasonable. The ladies that work there are so friendly and the sausage is out of sight!

When you walk in you are slightly confuses what the place was. The daughter of the owner who greets you soon makes you feel welcome to dine in or look around and answer any questions you may have. We had the pork schnitzel, grilled ham sandwhich, and the mici sausage all which were mouth watering. This has place has given us a reason to stop in portland now!

When I first stepped in around 5:15, there was no one, then I saw the owner. She was very friendly, and give her opinion when asked. The Frikadelle is beyond awesome!!! Awesome is an understatement, the patty is juicy with the veggie that is within, and the wheat bread just makes you want to take a bite at it. Small place, and kind of out of place kinda, with grocery story next to it, stepping in would take some courage, but this food is totally damn bad ass awesome!!! Now excuse me, I am off to finish that hot dog I got from them, also.

Yum! Who knew this place existed in deep NE? I was searching for brunch nearby and this place popped up. I decided to give it a try because it had such great reviews, and well, why not! First of all, the deli looks so appetizing with a huge array of sausages and cheese. The market section had many European candies, chocolates and preserves to supplement your clearly deficient pantry, too! The bread was still warm on the shelves and looked perfectly crusty. My family was here visiting, though, so we decided to try the restaurant. I ordered a Reuben on dark rye. The corned beef was delightfully resting under a pillow of succulent saurkraut and the sandwich was dripping with melting white cheese. yum! The pickle was delicious and crisp. My mom ordered a spicy sausage that was crisp on the outside, yet tender and juicy on the inside. She also had a cup of the tripe soup, which was very flavorful and served with vinegar and garlic butter, which we were told was traditional. My mother’s boyfriend ordered the special — today was macaroni and cheese with served with vegetables, french bread, and sausage. The boyfriend is vegetarian, though, so instead, they gave, with no extra charge, a cup of lentil soup and an extra helping of macaroni and cheese in exchange for the sausages. The highlight for me was my mother’s tripe soup, which was really flavorful, especially with the vinegar and garlic butter(if you’re feeling daring). Everyone was delighted with their food. Additionally, the prices were very reasonable and the restaurant clean, bright, and the service quick and friendly. I highly recommend this affordable restaurant for its amazing sandwiches and great sausages. When we left, our server said, «see you next time!» I feel like that’s something they can bet on! Next time, I definitely would love to hit up their deli, too! I can’t believe I’ve driven by this place so many times and never noticed it. What a tragedy!

Meat shop? Awesome. They serve Brawts there. Have an awesome selection in the Deli and a pretty good beer selection which makes a perfect to sit outside and eat.
