So I’m updating this review. I have since returned a few times for dinner and just to grab a drink at the bar. It is still one of my favorite places for a great beer, I just need to remember not to bring the dog unless it’s summertime. Another issue that I encountered was the fact that I can’t bring my infant into the bar area. You can sit on the side however or in the dining area with no problem. My favorite beers there are mirror pond and fresh squeezed. I also really love their pretzels. Make sure to make this one of your stops when you visit Portland. ****** After a somewhat disappointing encounter earlier, Deschutes has thoroughly redeemed themselves by apologizing for the situation. I am very impressed by their customer service and their desire to keep their customers happy. I would highly recommend Deschutes as I love their beers, their location and now their customer service. Make sure to try the Fresh Squeezed IPA and Mirror Pond, both are well made and great summer time beers.

Menu just didn’t have enough items to choose from. I enjoyed the atmosphere but really wanted pizza or a regular burger.

A nice brewery to grab dinner and a beer. We came on a Wednesday evening and waited about 30 minutes for a table. I ordered a porter that was really good and had the elk burger as well. The burger itself was decent, but the fries that came with it were bomb. Service was wonderful and attentive.

Went here with some friends from out of town, and boy howdy I’m sure glad that I did! Unlike a lot of breweries, this one has a whole gluten free menu! The waiter even had a nifty cheat sheet to make sure things were gluten free. Speaking of the waiter, he was super helpful and on top of it! I had their special pimento bacon burger with a gluten free bun and the purple potato salad. The bun was made in house and quite delicious. Everyone else at my table got the ribeye. It looked good and everyone seemed to enjoy it. I would definitely come back. Oh! And I heard from a gentleman at my table that the men’s room had neat urinals. I will just have to take his word for it. He couldn’t stop talking about it.

I like Deschutes. I went here recently and had the most delicious salmon chowder. I didn’t know there was such a thing! Big chunks of salmon in a creamy broth with some pesto to stir in. Yummmmm. Plus their selection of beers are always delicious. Their cask selections and other specialties that you can only get at this location is a plus. The kids menu is actually really great and well priced. I found the adult entrees a little pricey but what are ya gonna do? Pay ‘em. Pretty much. The bar kinda has a cool feature. They have these little funnel things that you can try and throw a quarter into. It’s like a drinking game at a bar. This place can fill up so get there on off times. Or you’ll be waiting for a place in the bar or for a table. Go here if you’re a tourist. Go here if you’re a local. You won’t be disappointed.

I only came here for a quick snack/drink before getting dinner so this is not a complete review. Ordered the Brewer’s choice flight and the pretzel with stoneground mustard/cheese dip. Did not have to wait long to be seated. Service was very friendly. Beautiful place. The pretzel was delicious and I tried to restrain myself from eating the whole thing before my boyfriend came back from the bathroom so he could have some too. While I didn’t order any of the actual food, I really wished that I did because it smelled really tasty. I am hoping to come back eventually next time I make it out to Portland!

Came here on a Sunday night and it wasn’t packed which I liked. The burger and winter green salad were both solid. I got a flight and the waiter brought us an extra taster which was awesome.

Fantastic dinner spot with a great bar to hang out in… unfortunately this review will be about the food only because I was DD the other night! I had a fantastic peanut butter & beef soup… I wish I could find a recipe! Mmm, it was creamy, mildly spicy, and definitely peanut butter-y. A friend and I shared the black butte porter mac n’ cheese and the quinoa burger; both were really great. The mac n cheese was cheesy but not overwhelmingly so; the sundried tomatoes and sauteed onions balanced out the dish. The quinoa burger was also delicious and hearty. I’d love to visit again.

There a few vegetarian options. The food overall is a bit overpriced in my opinion. We tried the pretzel, it was great. I really liked the cheese. The fries we got were pretty basic and covered in thick spicy garlic.(Probably wouldn’t order these again) my boyfriend had Mac n cheese which I found to be mediocre. Probably better if you eat meat? You have more options at least.

We loved the pretzel with cheese & mustard. Simply amazing! We also got the sampler of beers, which was a little on the bitter side. I’m basing this review on the food since I’m not an avid beer drinker. Finally we got the Apple galette and the chocolate peanut butter cake. Very very good! I would definitely come back, and the lodge atmosphere was fun! All the staff were friendly and its a good place to take any visitors to Portland. thumbs up!

Awesome spot to kick off our Portland tour! Pretty affordable meal too! We had a glass of wine(house Pinot), and sample(6 different beers x 4 oz tastings), Mac n Cheese dish, and steak frites dish… came out to $ 55 for two! Mac and Cheese was SUPER rich and tasty(bacon+grilled chicken+sun dried tomato FTW!) and it’s a huge plate. Easily can feed two with it. I enjoyed the steak frites(minty chimichurri and the feta cheese on the fries is always a winning combo). We didn’t have to wait too long because it was a Wednesday night but I can totally see this place being busy. Even on a week night there were tons of families and groups. Great good, decent pricing, and KICKASS beer! Definitely check it out!

When I thought of Portland beers before, I always thought of Deschutes, so naturally we had to stop in. We found a seat at the bar(lucky!) and the bartender asked twice, quite demandingly, if we were ready to order. The beer menu is extensive and we were still taking our jackets off the first time. The third time he asked(about 3 minutes in) he said«if you’re not ready now it’s gonna be a long time till I’m back.» Perhaps my shivering from the cold was mistaken as symptoms of alcohol withdrawal… this guy thought I needed a beer NOW! The place is really just a glorified Chili’s or Applebees.

Came here for the release of the Abyss. The review is based solely on the food I ate. The Abyss this year was good, but wasn’t as strong as last year’s. My boyfriend got the pretzel with cheese/mustard dip and I got a chocolate mousse cake made with Abyss. The pretzel itself was okay — I wish it were hotter. The dip was the highlight of the dish. I liked the bits of mustard seed. The chocolate mousse cake came with a couple chocolate meringue. The cake was rich and velvety, but it’s too much for me to finish on my own. The food didn’t «wow» me enough for me to come back for the food. I wouldn’t mind coming back to hang out with friends though. The pub has many large tables and seems group-friendly.

This place will always be stupidly packed, but it’s fun place to hang with friends, grab some great food and drink some great beer. Things I like: 1. Beer nuts. It’s good 2. Any of their burgers. Elk or yak or something thats not cow or pork. Delicious 3. Wings — They are not too bad.

This review is only for their beer! We came here on a Saturday evening and this place is huge and was jam packed! We happened to find a cozy place to stand near the two way fireplace and got our beers promptly even though it was crazy at the bar. I got the Jubelale, which is basically like holiday in a cup. I’d definitely be back!

First meal of our Portland adventure! The bf and I went here for dinner and we actually came right on time before it got all busy with the long wait time. Parking around this area… there was actually a parking garage across from this place but we weren’t willing to wait 40 minutes for it to be free-parking. Lol. So we just drove around a block away and parked on the street. What we got: Spicy Chicken & Waffles: Nashville-style basted chicken breast, thick sliced smoked provolone, housemade sourdough waffle, maple dressed kale, fennel and pecan salad. I love the chicken but found the waffles a bit… thin and soggy since it had the maple syrup already. Oh not to mention the kale salad was on top of the waffle too. A bit weird if you ask me. Maybe if they had the maple syrup and the kale salad on the side it would’ve tasted better. Elk Burger: Durham Ranch elk, Face Rock Creamery aged cheddar, roasted shallot-thyme aioli, sweet field greens. The bf got this one and he liked it. He also order a side of fries and it was delicious. We also got 2 beer sample flights: Mine: Deschutes River Ale, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Chainbreaker White IPA, Black Butte Porter, Jubelale and Nitro Obsidian Stout. I liked all of them but the Porter and Jubeale stood out the most for me. HIs: Deschutes River Ale, Mirror Pond Pale Ale, Smoked Gost, Black Butte Porter, Jubelale and Nitro Obsidian Stout. OHMYGOD the Smoked Gost though… it’s a sour beer with hints of hickory flavor. I’m not much of a sour beer drinker but goddamn, it was one of the best sours I’ve tasted. Dessert: Tiramisu with Black Butte Porter. I don’t remember exactly the name but it was under the specials so we just had to try it. It was unbelievable! sexytimeinmymouth. Service was great. Our server came by to check in from time to time if we needed any thing else. He was friendly and looked like he enjoys working there.

My boyfriend and I came here for dinner, and I have to say that we both enjoyed our experience. The ambience of this place is nice and somewhat family oriented. I loved the high ceilings and cool decorations! We ordered the beer sampler in which we got 64-ounce beers, and they were all great. Our favorite was definitely the Black Butte Porter. I ordered the lobster roll, and my boyfriend ordered the elk burger with a side of sweet potato wedges. I don’t think that the lobster roll was worth the money, but the elk burger was at least interesting. The sweet potato wedges were amazing though! They were huge, and I felt that they were relatively healthy considering that they were less fried than actual fries. I would have to say that the food wasn’t the best, but there were some unique options to choose from. Overall, I really liked my stay here. The restaurant was everything I was looking for, and it’s a perfect place to bring family or a date.

Nothing to rave over at Deschutes. The several appetizers and and flights of beer were not enough to make us want to stay for dinner. For me, that says it all. Also, our server was not friendly. I did a create-your-own flight and asked the server for suggestions. I was not familiar with Deschutes and that’s his job, but he seemed less than pleased to provide convincing help.

If you are looking for good beer and food — this is definetly a place that has it. We ordered the pretzel with cheese dip and it was off the charts amazing. I’m not a huge fan of soft pretzels, but I fought my SO for the other bite when he moved for it. My SO ordered the double blue burger and I ordered the regular deschutes burger. His burger was a lot better than mine, albeit very salty(although it has pork belly on it so not super suprising.) My burger was so-so, it was very meaty and had lots of good vegetables, but didn’t have any real bite to it. It would have been nice with some pickles or something. I would not be opposed to coming here again — I have heard great things about their other meals. The waiter was really nice and hilarious. Pro tip — wait until after the dinner rush — the line can get up to an hour wait. If you go around 7:30 — 8:00 you can nab a table no problem.

I was recommended to eat here by a coworker and it did not disappoint. I’m usually not a big beer drinker, but I really enjoyed the beer here. +Beer: The best bang for your buck would be to get the flight. You get to choose 6. My favorites were the Gluten Free NWPA and the Smoked Gose. Both had a very unique, but surprisingly good tastes. +Food: Flavorful and went well with the beer. We ordered the steamed clams(my favorite), the yellow belly burger, and the rib eye. If you decide to choose the entrees, make sure you get the salmon chowder for an additonal $ 2. They make it in house and it was definitely worth it. +/-Wait: We came in during prime time on a Friday night. The bar area was packed, and the host told us it would be 40 minutes. It turned out the be only 20, so we were seated quite quickly. +Staff/Ambiance: The staff was nice and the place had a casual vibe to it. Great for watching the game!

When you’re in Oregon, you need to take advantage of all the breweries and Deschutes is a great choice! Yes, they have an awesome selection of beer. I got the Choose your own sampler. You get 6– 4oz beers of your choice. My favorite was the Deschutes River Ale. Beer isn’t the only thing worth trying here, the food is amazing as well. We tried the mac and cheese with bacon and it was delicious! We also had the chicken and waffles and the Caesar salad. All the food is great quality and great tasting. There is also alot of seating so you won’t have to wait for a long time to be seated.

Looking to go to a brewery in the heart of downtown? Look no further than Deschutes, which is right down the street from Powell’s. This location is pretty big and there are plenty of tables so you should be able to find seating. The service is fast and friendly and willing to answer any questions you may have about their beer selections. I decided on just getting a Deschutes River Ale, which was pretty good! It has a nice, crisp taste and is a great beer to have when you just want to relax. If you’re not a fan of really bitter beers, this beer is a great choice. We got some food to munch on while we enjoyed our beers. I really enjoyed the mac-n-cheese. I really liked the pasta that it came with since it’s not your usual mac-n-cheese pasta that you find. Loved the cheesiness of the dish too. The pretzel was alright… it didn’t really come out too warm and the bread was meh. I was hoping for better. All in all, I enjoyed Deschutes. They have some quality beers and some good beer snacks. Plus, the convenience of it being right in downtown is appealing.

Expected a lot more from such a well-known Brewery. This isn’t the brewery location, but their Public House, a restaurant with a small tasting area for those just interested in drinking. Since the tasting area was so small and completely packed, my bf and I were seated in the dining area across the way. The restaurant alone is beautiful! High ceilings, large rooms, wooden carved posts and tables and all around rustic vibes that go well with Portland’s atmosphere. We each only ordered flights and were both surprised to see the number of IPA’s that were offered. We had hoped to sample Deschutes other creations, since we’ve had their Fresh-squeezed, their Mirror Pond and their Black Butte on quite a few occasions. We got to their their Inversion, which was veryyy hoppy, but good. Overall, good flight, just all very bitter and I’m not one to shy away from bitter beers… What kind of got us was the atmosphere. It was very… nice. Almost too upscale for my liking. I didn’t feel the most comfortable in the middle of the room at a fairly big table with just our two flights. Since the brewery is located in Bend, I’m sure not many are able to make a trip out there from out of town. I think it would have been most ideal to make the tasting room larger than it is, much larger, to accommodate those who want to focus on the craft and company, not the food. Not many people were actually seated to eat, at most a few snacks, from what I saw. Very refined from what I expected. Excellent beer, but very hoppy all around. Great service, just not the genuine feeling I look for when visiting a brewery.

Ok, so Deschutes might not be one of the teeny breweries I was hoping to indulge in, but damn it their beer is fantastic, and they have an ENTIRE gluten free menu! We ended up eating here twice as it was the only place we found on our travels that had a ton of GF stuff! We had a bit of a wait both times, but the buzzers they give you, and the fact you can grab a beer from the bar and chill out in the waiting area made it a very pleasant experience. Once seated, service was prompt and always super nice(this seems to be a common them with Portlanders… Portlandians?) The first time we shared the GF grilled cheese, and the veggies with arancini, and I got a cup of tomato soup. Oh boy, everything was incredible! Their GF bread is soft, fluffy, and super flavourful, the cheese was ooey-gooey, the veggies perfectly cooked, and the arancini crunchy, tasty, and a perfect complement to the meal. We had the veggie burger the second time, and it was really tasty as well — I feel like you pretty much can’t go wrong whatever you order! Prices are reasonable, the food is great, and the drinks are delicious!

The mother ship of all Portland Craft Breweries. Or at least one of the most well known. Nice restaurant/brewery. Good food, good beers, and some on the tap handle that you normally don’t see. Big fan of Deschutes for their beers, and their food we had for dinner was good too!

One of the most popular breweries in town. Just look at the amount of Unilocal reviews! We got here at around 4pm and had to wait about 30min to get seated. We got the beer flights and they were great! My favorite one was the Fresh Squeezed IPA but overall they were all tasty and worth the wait. We also got the Fresh Squeezed Wings and the Brownies. The Fresh Squeezed Wings were amazingly tasty. They were buttermilk fried chicken wings, Fresh Squeezed added, Thai chilies, togarashi spice, honey and fresh lime. It was crispy, sour, spicy and tangy all at once. Just an explosion of flavor in your tongue. The Brownies were whatever. I would definitely come back here and eat more of the amazing food and down some more beers. Good spot!
