Staying at a hotel near them and wanted to grab a quick dinner other than the usual burger. Looked OK from the outside but it’s always about the food and I literally just came back to my hotel room and threw up. The food I ordered included their hot and sour soup which somehow managed to be both bland and too peppery at the same time which is a weird combination. But it’s not the soup that was the problem. Most Chinese places usually does a halfway decent job with their pork dishes. I have had pork dishes from Chinese places from all over the country and Canada and all have ranged from OK to Fantastic. This place has managed to ruin Chinese pork for me for a while. I ordered as my main dish their Northern Style Pork and Vegetables. The pork was supposed to be lightly breaded as described in the menu but this came out overly coated with batter so that you couldn’t tell what type of meat they were using. When I bit into the first piece it definitely had a weird taste to it. Not sure what it was about the flavor but I decided to continue eating which was my mistake. After the third piece of meat I realized that the pork/mystery meat was either very freezer burned that was then defrosted improperly or that the meat was close to the point of spoilage and they figured that the batter and sauce would hide this taste. The vegetables that were cooked with it was a paltry mix of zucchini, broccoli, cabbage, green peppers, some bits of mushrooms and very little amounts of bamboo shoots and water chestnut. I realized that this place is more of an American style Chinese but the vegetables did nothing to hide the close to rancid taste of pork meat that I was tasting. I stopped eating and paid my bill and just walked out. The server wanted to know if everything was ok and if I wanted a box to take home. I said no to both and that the food tasted funny. She was at least nice enough to ask if i wanted a different dish but sorry, if this dish came out tasting this bad I wasn’t about to risk it on another dish. When i got back to my hotel room i immediately felt ill within 15 minutes and knew that i was going to upchuck my dinner. It didn’t take long to feel the effects from my dinner and I had to post this afterward to warn other travelers staying at a hotel near this place not to eat here. I will also be telling the people at the front desk not to recommend this place for fear of giving their hotel guests food poisoning.

delivery was quick. Best part were the crab puffs. Sweet n sour soup was a bit bland ie tasted watered down and not sour at all. Other than that the food was ok for the price.

Small restaurant, never too crowded. Great vegetarian selection, the eggplant, sauteed broccoli, mu shu, and chow mien are made to order, ie no eggs, extra veggies. Fast polite service every time, never a problem with my order. Wonderful for veggie lovers

Checked into Hilton and needed a quick lunch. Front desk told us about restaurant. Decided to give it a shot. There were 4 of us so we all ordered something different. Everything was great. Good flavor. Quick service. Vegetables tasted fresh. Meat dishes were good. Thanks for the quick service.

My co-workers and I come here a few times a month, as it is quite convenient. I normally order either the crab puffs(which taste very yummy) or the Mongolian beef. It tastes ok– it isn’t the best, but it definitely isn’t the worst. Well, yesterday, I ordered the lunch special — Salt & Pepper Pork chop. And OMG!!! It was so delicious. This is one of the hugest pork chops that I have ever seen in my life. It comes with onions and peppers on top and steamed rice. It is a little spendy for me($ 9.95) for lunch — but you definitely get your monies worth, and then some! I really hope they continue to have this lunch special because I will most certainly get it again!

Okay so this place is not the best Chinese food ever. But it is sufficient and more convenient to get lunch there than other places in the neighborhood. They have a good vegetarian selection, and its actually not bad as other people make it sound. Felt almost like a real Chinese place you find on 82nd, and not a dumb stripmall place as it looks on the outside. I am giving it 5-stars because the grandma looks like Harry Carrey. And because Unilocal is(and Unilocal users are) stupid. They have to be so dramatic, and they don’t realize how much damage a 1* review can be to a small family owned business. You should be happy that you have the option to buy food somewhere else next time. I am sure that one sub-par chinese food experience is not actually as horrific as you make it sound.

Was it write home spectacular? No. Will I go again? Absolutely. I had the chicken with spicy garlic sauce. The sauce was not spicy to me, but it was quite tasty. I could have done with more garlic too, but I adore garlic and add it to almost everything. My mom had the mooshu chicken. The pancakes with it were so thin and soft. The plum sauce was pretty good too. I will be trying other dishes to try and get a full and better opinion of their food. I do think they are better than several of the Chinese food places that I have tried in the Portland/Vancouver area. Is it comparable to the great asian eateries that I went to in LA, no. In that regard, not many place can compare, except maybe Chinatown in New York.

I’d give this place no stars if I could. The food was terrible. I have never seen such a poor excuse for Chinese food. Everything was tasteless. Pretty sure the cashier tried stealing my credit card info, I ordered over the phone & she told me she needed my billing address and zip code. I told her that seemed like a little too much to give just to order Chinese food & she said her manager required it. As soon as I said I would just cancel my order she said she’d do it «just this one time». This place just isn’t worth the money. They didn’t even give us forks or napkins with our food, and the fortune cookies they gave us weren’t in a wrapper. This is the most dissatisfied I have ever been with any take out place.

Food was just okay. Sweet and sour chicken kind of bland, fried rice was kind of bland.

Bland. Most tasteless chinese food I’ve ever tasted. Fried rice was just that– fried rice w a small dash of eggs and no veggies! Thought I might keep leftovers for lunch at work tomorrow but tossing it at three bites in.

Had lunch here with my wonderful fiancé. I had general tso chicken, she had sweet and sour bean turd. I loved mine and she liked hers. Service was great and it seemed clean. Plus they had some kind of creepy slot machine room in the back. Cool.

Order fried rice and the taste was not very good … chicken seemed and tasted old. Many other people have said the same … the food is old … not going back again.

China Wok does not earn the Star! CALLTHEHEALTHDEPT. Flew in exhausted and hungry and wanted food delivery so I ordered Kung Pao Chicken and steamed rice. I was looking forward to spicy, red sauce, fresh vegetables and fresh chicken. What I got was NO spice, vegetables so old it should have been discarded as one of the water chestnuts had black spots and the chicken tasted gamey. Called to complain and was told the sauce comes plain brown and should have had red chilies. Wrong. I am Asian. I prepare it myself at home. Even the one packet of soy sauce had no salt. The meal was bland and very scary! DONOTEATHERE!!! ORRISKFOODPOISONING!!!

Competent service. Good food, but not particularly noteworthy. Try it if you’re in the neighborhood but I wouldn’t go very far out of my way for it.

Perfectly decent Americanized Chinese food. This place is near my office so due to convenient placement, I tried it. Their hot and sour soup was good, not the best I’ve had but good. Pork fried rice, a tad bland but tasty with the addition of some soy sauce. I haven’t personally tried them but a coworker told me the sauteed green beans are delicious. The waitress and other lady behind the counter were both quite nice, also. I wouldn’t go out of my way to visit this restaurant, but since I work in the area, it’s a perfectly fine lunch option when I’m feeling like some good old-fashioned American-Chinese food.

Pretty gross Chinese food. I’m not a food snob by any means. I love American-style Chinese food, Chinese food from the Safeway deli, whatever — but this place is just bad. The meat looks weird, everything is over-sauced while at the same time being bland. Don’t know how they manage that. I’d highly recommend going somewhere else. I work near by and have tried it a few times over the years and it is always bad.

How many times have I told myself not to come here again. I seem not to learn my lesson. Maybe Unilocaling it will help remind me about not coming here anymore. First bad experience was having a staple in my food. Second experience was having hair in my food. I spoke with the staff in both situations. I asked if they wore a hairnet while cooking food & asked them to be extra careful about not including inedible objects and supposed dangerous things like staples. They acknowledged their faults, apologized and didn’t charge us for the food. So I skipped several months before coming back thinking that I should give them another chance. No one is perfect, right? At least the food was pretty tasty. So here I was, several months later, and ordered a house special tofu(fried tofu and stir fried veggies) for lunch. They failed miserably on this dish. This should be very straightforward since it’s a vegetarian dish. All they had to do was to cook the tofu perfectly. Unfortunately, they served me overfried old tofu. I felt like I was eating rubber. I didn’t expect the dish to be extremely flavorful because it was supposed to be a vegetarian dish. But not cooking the tofu right was unforgivable. So that’s sayonara for me. Third time wasn’t a charm.

Was visiting from out of town and walked over to this little strip mall for lunch. I assumed(wrongly) that this was a panda express type Chinese fast food joint. But I was happy to be wrong. It’s a full service restaurant. I had the beef and broccoli and the sweet and sour pork. Fast service, good food and the price was in line. I’d definatly come back if I find myself in the area again.

Stuck at an airport hotel, I went online looking for delivery places and couldn’t locate anything so I called the front desk. China Wok was my only delivery option. Not wanting to walk next door to the hotel with a restaurant I came to Unilocal to investigate this location. Needless to say, I was worried after reading the reviews but what the heck, felt adventurous and ordered for delivery anyway. The gal who answered the phone was probably the owner, and had difficulty understanding English. No big deal, we worked through it. Since I couldn’t find a menu online I took a stab at «Do you have Mongolian Chicken» since I really love the Mongolian dishes with all the onions. She told me they did. I added a small portion of fried rice for $ 1.75 and because I felt I needed to make it worth their while, I added an order of BBQ Pork Loin appetizer. The delivery«Old Man» looked as if he lives out in the alley behind the restaurant. No, really! They should hose him off a little before sending him out to make deliveries. Not very appetizing at all. I opened the bag and found my order to be accurate along with a little surprise… the white rice came along with the fried rice. I thought I had paid for an upgrade, not an additional order. They included a couple of paper plates and plastic wear which I was wondering if they’d throw in. Opening the entrée, I knew I had ordered WAY too much food. At least 25 pieces of BBQ Pork pieces(seems like you usually get 12 at most places) along with hearty entrée, fried rice, and white rice. They added the hot mustard I love to dip the pork in along with sweet and sour sauce but no sesame seeds. For $ 21.00 delivered, I had enough food for three grown men. SERIOUSLY! I gorged myself as I was very hungry and didn’t get through a third of the food. The Fried Rice was excellent. I didn’t touch the white sticky rice but loved my Mongolian Chicken. Not spicy like I’m used to but plenty of white onions and scallion mixed with the chicken. The BBQ Pork was moist and chewy. It was not«day old dry» hunks of meat. Other than the delivery«bum», a very good experience… oh, and NOHEARTBURN!
