This is my favorite local fried chicken, hands down! It’s always made to order fresh and crispy with just the right amount of spice in the crust. All of their sides are held to the same standards as the chicken. Their rolls are some of the best rolls I’ve ever had. Big, soft freshly baked buns as big as your fist. Their potato salad and macaroni salad are both delicious with their own southern bbq taste to it. If you wanna skip the wait, just call in an order to go. Both the guys that work there are always nice and consistent!

Nothing to write home about aside from their servings. This food truck is reasonably priced offering fried chicken as their main event. I had their chicken dinner. It comes with mac or potato salad, piece of bread, fries and a wing, leg, breast and thigh all for $ 9.75. It comes in a box that was quite handy for carrying and eating. The chicken was definitely a generous serving size. They do take a little bit to make your grub, about 15 minutes, but that’s okay b/c it goes to show you how fresh your meal is about to be. Everything was comfortably hot when we got our boxes. The bread looked like it was a specialty piece of theirs. It was good, nothing great but went well with the chicken. The chicken was a’ight. It was hot but the chicken itself was kinda lacking flavor(more so with the breast but I also prefer dark meat). The breading for the frying was very crispy, tasty and plentiful so when mixed with the chicken made a good pair. I did enjoy the fries. I think they were cajun seasoned and they were the fatter krinkle fries which I personally like. Their special french fry dipping sauce reminded me of the Cane’s sauce with less viscosity so it was kind of watery which I feel took away from being able to tase all the flavor. The potato salad was good but had too much onion imo and I like onions. The wife liked the potato salad when she could get a scoop with no onion, which was tough but she doesn’t like onions unless their sauted. Anyways, I prefered the mac salad but it too was just mediocre for me. All and all it was a decent experience there was just nothing that knocked my socks off. Would I eat here again? I’d definitely get their fries and a leg.

Agreed. Good things in PDX come in pink boxes! What a value! $ 9, half a chicken, fries, roll, and side salad. The gents there are super kind and accommodating.

One word… OMFG… This place has the best fried chicken in town. I love how the fried chicken has the perfect amount of crispyness and you can tell the chicken had been marinaded prior to be breaded and fried. Everything the chef makes is so yummy. My guess would be he uses buttermilk. The rolls and macoroni salad that comes with each meal is very good also. The chef himself doesn’t say too much, but I believe his father/friend is sometime there also and he is very talkative and makes the time pass as you wait for the delicious chicken to fry up.

Great chicken & sides-Look out Colonel Sanders! For $ 9.00 I had enough for dinner & lunch. This is the place for fried chicken. It’s in the food cart pod just south of the intersection, my map placed it at Division &SE50th.

Well, I guess there’s another place in Portland that has good stuff coming out of a pink box. Take that how you like it but what came from the Chicken Coop was some pretty tasty vittles. In this scenario it’s a 97 degree day out and it’s National Ice Cream day and what do I choose to eat? Fried chicken with hot sauce. To be honest, my intentions on this day was to get some ice cream, which I did, and eat some Mexican food but they were cash only over at A La Carts and I had two bucks cash on me. I have eaten at a few spots here and none are bad, but I hadn’t had some good fried chicken since the Reel M Inn. Chicken Coop looked good and the price for a chicken lunch was really good. $ 7. With said chicken lunch you get a thigh and a leg, a glorious amount of crinkle cut fries, a big olé roll and one other side of which I got cole slaw. This isn’t fast food fried chicken so be prepared to wait at least 15 minutes to get your piping hot meal. When the box arrived, it was a heavy sucker that was completely full of great grub. The chicken was crispy, hot and oh so tender. It had a good salty taste and the hot sauce complimented it well. The fries had a great crunch. That roll would have been even more perfect with some butter and the slaw was the surprise. The slaw was a cabbage slaw with raisins and walnuts that was amazing. I’m glad I was there on a slow day. I can’t imagine what the place is like during the week. The gents running Chicken Coop were friendly and you can tell they’ve been doing this for some time. They have a good product and I will make sure to try some more and I’ll be waiting 15 minutes to get it. Enjoy.

This is it… finally found the best Fried Chicken in Portland and not looking back. Been trying to figure out what it is… definitely the batter. Light, Crisp, Consistent Texture that is Flaky Golden Yellow every time. I mean every time. These guys are consistent and it has brought me back time and again. Not sure what else to say, oh yeah, the fresh rolls are Amazing. Fried Chicken and the Chicken Fillets, kind of like skinny chicken strips. Slice open a roll and put a fillet in, perfect chicken sandwich.

This place was great! Everything was fresh and delicious, and I managed to get dinner for my husband & myself(including a water bottle) for only $ 12.75! The chicken tenders were amazing and the fries and roll were great as well. Our meals came with ketchup, ranch, honey, & butter which is perfect. It took about 12 minutes to come out but that’s because everything was so dern fresh! I also thought the pink boxes our food came in were cute as well as the décor around the cart. I have a thing for fountains and they have a cute little fountain that I was eyeing. They take credit cards and the guys working there were super nice. We will definitely be back because it was a great experience for our first time at these food carts!

off the hook!!! best fried chicken in pdx. the hot buttered homemade rolls are a super bonus. absurdly delicious. the sides were perfectly seasoned(we tried the coleslaw, potato salad and fries). nice seating area(covered as well as open) at the cart pod where this place is located(Dolicious on SE50th and division) and street parking in the neighborhood. this area of Division is manageable too, away from all the construction and bustle below 39th. we will definitely be back! call your order in ahead of time if you can wait the 15 minutes it takes them to make your order.

These guys know how to fry chicken. And they make the best coleslaw I’ve ever had. We’re from the south, so that’s saying something!

My husband’s family is from Virginia and so they know their fried chicken. He and I both agree that this is the best fried chicken in Portland! Possibly the USA. It’s cheap, juicy, perfectly seasoned. The rolls and fries are also really good.

Looking for another place for some good fried chicken. Highly recommend Chicken Coop. This is deep fryer chicken and not broasted. The outside is crispy and flavorful while the inside is moist. As I ate this chicken, it reminded me of KFC chicken that made me question whether they make their own batter. But I will give them the benefit of a doubt and say they make it themselves. I highly suggest avoiding the sides and just purchasing the chicken itself. For $ 8, you can get four pieces of chicken — breast, thigh, wing and leg. For a dollar more, you can add fries, choice of salad(mac, potato, coleslaw, etc.) and a roll. The sides left more to be desired. The fries were prefectly crispy but no salt on them. I’m sure ketchup can fix this. The coleslaw was overly sweet for my palate and included raisins. The roll looked like a Hawaiian sweet roll but really was dry. Oh and another important detail… hot sauce! Fried chicken needs Cristal’s, Frank’s or Tabasco, not Tapatio. Since they don’t offer anything other than Tapatio, just hop over the Year of the Fish and ask to use their hot sauces. So if you’re in the SE area, stop here for your Fried Chicken fix!

They must have a moble unit. Every Monday they park outside my building. After a weekend of the stomach flu I wanted a little something comforting. The chicken noodle soup was AMAZING! … and folks, I don’t like soup for the most part. So this is a huge score for me and the guys at the Coop!

Best fried chicken in town. Hands down. I eat here frequently, against my better judgement but it’s just too good. Both the bone in and the chicken strips are delicious. Perfectly crunchy and flavorful on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. The coleslaw is very tasty as well, it has golden raisons in it which I wasn’t sure about until I ate it. It’s yummy. They also have some of the best fried zucchini I’ve had the pleasure of ingesting.

Ordered a fried chicken breast and fried zucchini. Super moist, well seasoned and delicious! Would definitely come back. Customer service was great. The only downside was they were out of several menu items, but only because it was toward the end of the night. Otherwise, great experience and delicious food!

Cluck cluck cluck! Cluck cluck cluck! Okay, now that I’ve got your attention, let’s talk about fried chicken! I know nothing will ever top grandma’s, but I keep trying. My roommate had heard good things about this newer food cart, so we headed into the rain on a soggy night and got some treats to go. The fried chicken was good, but not the best I’ve had. I did greatly enjoy what tasted like house made ranch dressing with it. The fries had an amazingly great texture, unlike most I’ve had. However, it seems like they use some type of seasoning on them and there was a spice in the mix I didn’t care for, though I couldn’t put my finger on it. The potato salad was my least favorite item, it was partially pureed, which made it too paste-y for my liking, I would have preferred just whole potato chunks. Also, while I do enjoy a little mustard in potato salad, this was way, way too tart. The accompanying white dinner roll was average. Final grade: B. I’d go back but I wouldn’t start up a stampede to get there.

Made-to-order fried chicken is great and the 15-minute wait isn’t bad because the layout of the A La Carts area that Chicken Coop is located at has a nice pavilion along with some magazines and board games and a bean bag toss that I whooped my wife at multiple times. I got the $ 9 dinner plate(1 breast, 1 wing, 1 thigh, 1 leg) along with fries and a side of your choice and a roll. While this fried chicken isn’t the best I’ve ever had, it comes close to some of the better fried chicken places in Texas… so for Portland fried chicken, it might just be the best in the area.

Tired of Portland’s boneless fried chicken scene? Head over to the chicken coop for bone in fried chicken! Crispy on the outside and juicy in the inside! Worth the 15 minute wait! Definitely call ahead if you don’t want to wait. They take card, which is a plus. It’s not southern style, if that’s your fancy, it’s just great simple fried chicken that a girl can enjoy!

Hello?!? Anyone out there like fried chicken? This is sooo amazingly good and affordable. Their menu has everything to satisfy your comfort food needs. The fried chicken on the bone is so crispy, tender, juicy and flavorful. They must sprinkle crack from mcminville… I got the thigh, wing, leg breast meal and it comes with crinkle fries with sprinkled crack, big big roll, and your choice of a side(cole slaw, potato salad, macaroni salad) for $ 9!!! What a barn buster deal! I love that they came from mcminville after being successful! It’s time the southeast gets delicious fried chicken! If bone in is not to your liking, then you can get chicken tenders! Mmmm. fried chicken good for your soul! They are located in the 50th and division carts! Eat there, take it home, save for the next day. whatever you choose you will not regret it! Don’t waste your money at popeyes salty fest and kfc weaka chicks!!! Bonus: you can order ahead if you can’t afford to wait the 10−15mins. They take cards!
