Belmont 49 Apartments

Before you decide to live here read through the con’s list and see if it will fit your lifestlye.
Pros:
The apartments have nice hardwood floors and are generally in good shape. The layout maximizes space well and is quite useable, if noisy. I’ve never had a problem with the company, capscott and they use an online payment system which is very convenient. Maintenance issues are dealt with quickly. It is close to an elementary school (within a block), which may be important if you have kids.
Each apt gets one parking spot, but street parking isn’t an issue, just don’t park on 49^th. It is narrow and cars get mirrors popped all of the time. If you park on the street you will be going up some steep stairs.
Con’s:
The guardrails on the stairs and patio are short. They are just high enough to make it easy to fall over them.
Most important thing that you MUST know, is that your apartment will shake when you, or the person above or below you does laundry. First time my neighbors did their laundry I thought it was an earthquake (about a 4 on the Richter scale). Things shake on shelves, glasses rattle occasionally things fall. It can interfere with sleep, and it can be hard to hear people talking or the TV. I don’t have kids but I could see it keeping them up. The washers were an afterthought, so the apt isn’t built for them. Just have to bear it.
The road, 49^th avenue, is quite noisy (because it is narrow people honk their horns frequently.) It is also a thoroughfare, so expect a good deal of traffic and police and fire sirens. The hardwood floors and overall layout also amplify noises in the apt.
Some of the outdoor parts aren’t in the best repair and the lights they use for the parking lot are very bright. If you have the wrong window you will need to find a way to black out the window. Curtains won’t do the job.
The rent is fairly high for what you are getting, it looks closer to thing to do on a map than it is practically. There are a lot of stairs. If you have issues with mobility, or don’t have a lot of people to help you move large objects in this is not the location for you. The floor does slope, but you just have to put a few felt pieces under one side of the bookshelf at worst.
In conclusion, the apartments are nice, if very noisy and somewhat overpriced. You are still a pretty long walk to the busy spots on Hawthorne or Belmont. The company is very professional and a joy to work with. To be honest if it weren’t such a bear to move things up and down the stairs I’d think about moving.
