This place is awesome! The atmosphere is really nice and I love how it’s decorated. The servers are great, super friendly, helpful and willing to talk about their beer. Try the ESB, one of their bests in my opinion.

I’ve already decided to return to Base Camp — based on all the hype over s’mores stout… which I regretfully shied away from during my brief visit. I can’t recall why, but my mind tricked me into expecting a extraterrestrial themed brewery. The layout of the inside provides a very open and breathable space. It’s also ridiculously clean, including the bathrooms(give yourself a firm pat on the back, you wonderfully meticulous employee). There are images which appear to pertain to geology and rock climbing adorning the walls. Their 10 beer sampler is presented on a wooden serving plank — a nice touch that compliments the general theme of their décor. I favored the Pilgrimage Saison, which I consider similar to a Belgian style beer. Annnd, to the individual streaming their playlist the night I dropped in: You have decent taste in music. Heavy on the Tame Impala with a lil’ bit of The Strokes sprinkled in is alright by me.

Great brewery! This place can we described as sitting in an REI store sipping on some delicious beer. We stumbled upon this brewery on Unilocal(of course) and decided to give it a try. My boyfriend and I came during happy hour on Saturday morning(HH is $ 1 off beers). I got the Ultra Gnar Gnar and he got the S’mores Stout. Both were mediocre — the Ultra Gnar Gnar wasn’t particularly amazing and their selection overall wasn’t very memorable. The S’mores Stout was a little disappointing as there was a very strong chocolate taste to it, I didn’t really get the caramel or fruit notes in there. Overall, the staff were great and was very relaxed atmosphere since we came at such a random time. I’d definitely be back as it’s just good run of the mill beer that you can’t really go wrong with.

I went to several breweries in Portland and Base Camp was my favorite one. They had a really good variety of beers, sure to please both the casual and the snobby beer drinker. My favorite was their India Pale Lager which is dry hopped and aged with oak. The oak adds some nice complexity and the dry hopping works really well here as I think the bitterness might’ve taken away from the oak character. Overall it was pretty refreshing. The other crowd pleaser was the S’more Stout which is pretty much everything you want from a heavy stout: rich, full bodied, high alcohol served at 55º The place is super spacious and generally a cool place to hang out with some friends.

Fun atmosphere, beautifully decorated, and large space. Got the smore stout which comes with a delicious toasted marshmallow($ 5). It was great and definitely a unique drink. There’s also an enclosed seating area outside as well as food trucks.

I love the vibe. And they have food trucks on a 6 month rotation and ordering takes place inside and they bring the food to you. Thats a huge plus. I ordered a Saison on my first round and the price was great. And it was delicious and refreshing. Then I ordered the Amber on my next round. Love the service and all the variety of beers on tap. And the fellow beer loving patrons are great to hold a conversation with. Even more when they offer up some of their Truffle fries.

Drinking at base camp is like drinking in an REI. I absolutely love it the décor. The beer is also good, haha. The smores beer comes with a toasted marshmallow on top. When I come to portland, this is a must stop place for me. I will also note that if you get a flight, all your glasses come on a pretty cool log. Outdoor patio is also nice. Just a note– this brewery doesn’t serve food but there are food trucks right outside that will bring your food to you inside the tasting room.

I came here with a friend for a Unilocal!event. She was excited because it was on her list of places to try, so it worked out well. When I entered from the side door, I could definitely smell the hops! I went with the s’more stout, which I couldn’t resist based on Unilocal!reviews and how it looked. Beer served with a toasted marshmallow — it doesn’t get much more special than that! It’s a very casual bar atmosphere and I would return to taste some more of their beers.

Free WiFi is a great start. The feel is exactly like we’re at some base camp and I really like it. There’s REALLYHIGH ceilings, and it feels very much like a cabin on the side of a mountain. The workers are super friendly and almost went out of their way to accomodate my wife who has an aircast on from a beach accident. $ 3.50 Smores packs is the business. $ 1 off pints during happy hour which is 2 – 6 M-F w/a weekend happy hour as well is a PLUS! They got a decent selection of craft brews with the majority of them not only being there but actually having been brewed right there in the building. They have a massive brew room which was so cool to look at! Of course they’ve got the S’mores Stout which was quite nice, even if you’re not a fan of the stouts or really dark beers. The toasted marshmallow complimented it very well and for $ 3.50 during HH is quite the steal! We tried a few other beers they had on tap and they were all honestly the cats meow. This place has quality craft brews with a hella lax, comforting, outdoorsy feel. Well done Base Camp Brewing!

Came here for the s’mores! I didn’t try any of the beer, but my friends enjoyed the s’mores beer and kombucha. I got the Reese’s s’more, french fries, and white wine. I only ordered the fries, because the woman in front of me in line raved about them. They were okay… the garlic aioli that came with it was good though! Anyway, they gave me the s’more kit and kept my ID as collateral for the sticks that you used to roast the marshmallows. They had fires outside to roast your marshmallows. The s’more was really good!

I’ll freely admit it — I initially came here after hearing rumors of a s’mores beer served with a TOASTEDMARSHMALLOW. I mean, how can a girl pass that up? Let me tell you, it was 100% worth it. What seems like a kitschy sort of thing is actually a very good, very dark stout that pairs absolutely wonderfully with the toasted, gooey white sugary pillow that comes adorning your glass. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable, the beers are legit, and it’s an all-around awesome brewery, with a very relaxed, outdoorsy vibe to it. Their tables are giant planks of wood mounted onto small boulders with thick wire, and I would be here all the time if I didn’t live several hundred miles away. I’ll definitely be back.

Answer: A toasted mallow. Question: What’s the only suitable garnish for a S’mores Stout? Base Camp’s got you covered. Fun-loving brews which, on this day, leaned heavily towards the hops(ESBs and IPAs a go go!). three visiting ciders, and a truly Portlandic exterior(read: loads of seating, an urban campfire, and a handful of food trucks). Quaffed a righteous Smith Rock Red Ale at an astoundingly reasonable $ 3.50 — thanks $ 1 off happy hour — and marveled at the photography above the tap line. Nothing but semi-pristine vistas, summits and structures made only slightly less pristine by respectful folks who captured the sights. While I can’t speak to the full arsenal of beers, I can wholeheartedly assert there were no downsides to this afternoon fly-by. Sooooooo… five stars, brother.

It’s like hanging at the campsite without all the packing! You walk into a wide open space with wood lining everything… from the bar to the tabletops and stools. It’s like they brought the outside the house, inside the house! If you love the outdoors they have you covered cause their patio is like hanging out at the campsite by the fire. Then what’s that, you smell marshmallows roasting!?! That’s right kids they have a stout beer that they roast a marshmallow on for you. Seems like a treat for the kid in all of us with a bonus of beer. The stout is smooth and deep without that bitter finish. Get your taster tray and guess what it’s served on little log for you, yep it’s everywhere. The beers are always pretty well balanced and I usually like all that’s on rotation. The bottles are excellent if you need to take some with you since they have aluminum bottles. So browse through their menu of beers if you need a description of what they have to offer or simply ask. Then walk up to the bar and order, while you’re there you can order food from the carts they have on site which is so convenient. Then you grab your brews and take a number, soon after you get your food delivered to you. Great place to lounge and enjoy a few beers with everyone. When you grab your beers on the way out don’t forget to look up at the stars.

Basecamp is like something that exists only in my dreams. I had heard of this place before from some of my western friends, but to experience it firsthand was magical. I’ve been camping all over the country, but I felt more campy and outdoorsy than ever at Basecamp. The inside and out were so spectacularly perfect. The woods atmosphere and all the benches and fire pits were amazing. The 10 beer flight offered so much. The Koi Fusion; to die for. It was a beautiful sunny(what!) Portland day and sitting outside of the brewery was a dream. The beers all had something to offer. My Favorite, like many, was the stout. The marshmallow just added that perfect touch. This place, was by far my favorite brewery experience in Portland.

This is an amazing brewery! I’d say it was my favorite out of all the breweries I’ve visited while in Portland. It was a very spacious setting. Seats both inside and outside. There was a food truck outside as well. We ordered a flight along with the S’mores stout! I must say I LOVED their s’mores stout bc it also came with a roasted marshmallow! I highly recommend trying it out! I’ll definitely come back here again!!!

Came based on a recommendation from our BrewCycle guide. I don’t love stouts but that smores stout was actually life changing. I may only drink that while camping from now on. Happy hour prices were awesome, and loved the ability to sit inside and get happy hour deals from the food trucks outside. We shared fries which were awesome Friendly service and unique offerings means I’ll be back next time I’m in Portland!

First time here on a Friday around 3:30 p.m. while visiting PDX from Sacramento. I decided to get the Taster Log which was $ 12 for ten 4oz tastings. The presentation was nice and actually came out in a log. Beers I liked: 1. Lost Meridian Wit 2. Hop in the ‘Pool 3. Ripstop Rye Pils 4. Bridge Builder Bock 5. Saison de Chetco 6. Ultra Gnar Gnar Beers I didn’t like: 1. Northwest Fest 2. Afternoon Delight 3. Pilgrimage Saison 4. In-Tents IPL Beers I didn’t try: 1. Celestial Meridian CDL 2. Dr. Wig 3. S’more Stout The atmosphere was pretty unique and overall I felt pretty comfortable hanging out here alone. I would come back again when I’m in PDX and want to show someone around. Maybe I’ll go on their brewery tour the next time I’m here.

I wanted to like Base Camp. After it was recommended by a Portland Unilocaler in my «Please help me! It’s my first visit to the city! Where do I go!» thread, I added it to my must-visit breweries list. It looked great in concept! Unfortunately, I found this brewery to be the least welcoming spot that I visited in Portland and I was also under-enthused by their beer selections. I had read here that a taster tray of 10 is $ 12, which is a great deal. I obviously jumped on that. Upon arrival, I headed to the bar, was unsure of where to order, and walked to the other side when I wasn’t acknowledged. After a semi-long wait, I was helped. My ID was requested, which is normal, but instead of handing it back to me, the guy working tossed it on the bar. It made a noise. What in the heck. Not cool! Then after pouring my beers, I handed him my cash, he got change, brought it back, I stuck my hand out to take it, and he tossed that on the bar too. Seriously? Rude. Hand me my ID. Hand me my money. Did I throw my ID or money on the bar when you requested it? Nope. Give me the same courtesy! So I was miffed from the start, but I still kept an open mind toward their beer. After all, I didn’t want to let the one unfriendly person working ruin my entire experience with a brewery that was supposed to be excellent. Overall, though, the beer fell short too. My friend was tasting my samples with me and she agreed that Base Camp was a three-star establishment. On the tray, we both were surprisingly happy with the Ripstop Rye Pilsner sample. I’m rarely a fan of pilsners, but theirs was quite good. I also liked their Ultra Gnar Gnar IPA, and wished that they had more than one IPA on their tray. Maybe they could’ve switched out their Northwest Fest? I’m personally not a big fan of tasting Oktoberfest beers in February. Another thing to note: the taster trays are made of heavy wood. Be careful carrying it to a table if you get the 10 samples. I really wish this had been a better experience than it turned out to be, but it was good to have been able to try a wide expanse of their beers.

You need to come inside and check Lo/Relax yourself and let the IPA flow (Camp-Lo — Coolie High, get w it) I really wish I visited Base Camp when it wasn’t a full house, never seen so many beards in my life. Line out the door, outside tent area was an absolute clusterfuck, bathroom floor was disgustingly muddy, sooo many drunk and obnoxious people everywhere, took about 15 minutes to order at the bar not including time fighting to get up to the bar, and busing of tables was virtually nonexistent. Once you got your drink, it was nearly impossible to avoid spilling. Luckily my group managed to snag a table, although staff conveniently ignored the huge mess of half-eaten food left by the people before us. But you know me, once I get that first sip of craft brew I’m chillin. The S’more Stout was smooth, refined, and flavorful. Maltiness wasn’t too overpowering and you could definitely taste subtle notes of smoke, chocolate, and fruit. The roasted marshmallow was pretty cute. I’m really not a fan of darks but I fux with Base Camp S’more Stout! Ultra Gnar Gnar IPA& In-Tents IPL: to be honest there wasn’t much of a difference between these two beers. Better than average quality, but both were slightly watered down. Not enough hops/bitterness/bite. Design and layout is on point, from the tables to the canteen style beer bottles. Its like the REI of breweries.
