Now these bagels are GOOD! I absolutely love a bagel toasted real crispy on the outside but soft and chewy at the bite. All their bagels are homemade and fresh and you can really taste the difference. When we stopped in it was a rainy morning. There was only one lady working but she handled all of her customers with aplomb(Random: I love that word. Use it in a sentence sometime today. Your vocabulary deserves such an elegant word). She prepared our bagels just the way we asked. Oh so toasty! And I love that she piled on the cream cheese, baby! What a great no-frills spot.

Best bagels for miles and definitely a great stop when you have a craving for a good boiled bagel! I have a lot of opinions about bagels and know every haunt in town doing boiled bagels and this is the place to go outside of downtown or deep SE! The flavor is the most important factor in my 5* rating though service is consistently friendly and attentive and warrant 4 stars for sure. Don’t come here for ambiance, it does not convey confidence or comfort. Instead get your bagel and sit at the waterfront or neighboring park and then you will have the best of both worlds!

Being a boiled bagel purist, these are the best bagels in Portland. The crusts past the tap test; inside is dense and never chewy, the crumb semi-fine and flavor is exactly as you expect. The best part is the toppings: they are coated on both sides. Be quick, they can run out if you’re not there by the afternoon.

Great bagels but get there early as they seem to sell out of my favorites quick. Wish they had a vegan cream cheese option but unfortunately hummus is all they got which is no good on a sweet bagel. Other than that this place is super legit

I am a bagel fanatic, and this might be my favorite bagel place in Portland. Awesome place with great and friendly service. I’ve only had one bagel and I know this will become a weekly stop

Seriously legit bagels. I had the Bakehouse which is an everything with cheddar melted on top. I got it toasted with garden veggie smear, it hit the spot. The coffee is pretty good as well, a couple different roasted to choose from as well as espresso. The décor is a little cold and not inviting but who cares the food is good! Don’t judge a book by its cover they have a passion for proper bagels!

Took my first bite of my bagel here and it was like above into childhood… real ny bagels here… Soft and Doughy inside– perfect all day long even if not hot. Got deal of bakers dozen with 2 cream cheeses– Scallion onion cream cheese so good! Whipped and such good flavor Lots of choices for bagels topped with cheese and other flavored for no extra charge Service was so good the woman working there was so warm and friendly Hands down best bagels In Portland

Disclaimer: I’m really… and I mean REALLY picky about my bagels. I worked for a bagel joint in high school, and everything was made fresh each morning. While I do have high standards, I recognize not everyone expects a 5-star nosh like me. The service was friendly, but the bagel was very sub-par. When I went home to toast my sesame bagel, I was left disappointed after gnawing my way through the thing. It was hard as a rock! And the sad menu/signage — it doesn’t inspire confidence to see 100-size font text on 8.5“x11″ sheets of paper in the window.

Great East Coast-style bagels. Delicious and the best part is that the toppings are generally on both sides of the bagel, so no one is left with an orphan half… The cream cheeses are truly amazing and run the gamut of tastes. I could eat one(or three) every morning!

I have been looking for a good bagel place in Portland for some time now. I trekked over to Bakehouse from SE28th and Powell. I sure am glad I made the trek! Their boiled bagels are delicious and they have a true EVERYTHING bagel. My everything bagel with smoked salmon spread was delicious. The outside was perfectly toasted while the inside remained just the right amount of chewy. I will definitely be heading over here again soon!

My boyfriend and I moved to the area about a year ago and Bakehouse Bagels quickly become our favorite breakfast spot. The bagels are wonderful and I’m absolutely addicted to their garden veggie spread, which is always fresh! Our go to «treat» bagel is the bacon cheddar bagel but you have to get there early because they go very quickly. The counter girl Renee is awesome!(pro tip: talk to her about dogs. She loves them.) She is always happy to see us and makes sure our order is exactly how we like it. Sometimes we just stick around to talk to her if service is slow. Bakehouse Bagels, more than anything we have done in this neighborhood since we have moved here has created a great community feeling for us. If you are looking for some awesome people and bagels, Bakehouse is the place to go!

I go in here almost every morning on my way to work to get coffee and often a bagel or a cookie.(Because we all need a chocolate chip cookie first thing in the morning right?). The coffee is awesome coffee for someone like me who does not like froo froo coffee. They also have the least expensive coffee in the area. The bagels are good. I can get a jalapeño bagel with jalapeño cream cheese like a crazy person all I want. The thing that I love about this place is that it isn’t a chain. It isn’t pretentious. The owner and the woman who works there are quirky and fun. They are always happy to chit chat provided that there isn’t a huge line, which happens. They are genuinely friendly rather than overly customer service-y. The Taco shop attached to Bakehouse is also good. If you want someplace local and that just has good bagels/cookies/coffee this is the place to go.

Are you kidding me??? This place is a disaster. The lady is so rude and could care less about her customers. I didn’t even get a bagel because I was shocked at the service she was giving the two customers in front of me. When it was my turn to order she said«wait one minute“and ran behind the counter. Like she was going to throw up or something. I just walked out.

Wow, agree with reviews for bad service; grumpy, no communication etc. bagel sandwiches w/egg: YUCK! Slimy wet gooey egg white, old cheese that was not the type listed on menu. Everything about it yuck. Waste of money.

Stopped in for a quick bagel with my boyfriend. The woman working asked for my order and then promptly turned around to start making my bagel. She never asked for my boyfriend’s order and kept her back turned to us the whole time. We thought this a was little weird, and at times tried saying the order to her back with no response. She then turned with my entire bagel almost done at this point and my boyfriend said he would take the same bagel as mine. She literally scoffed and rolled her eyes! Oh I’m sorry you have to do your job and next time why not ask for both orders when people come in together. At this point she was angrily making my boyfriends bagel and a male co worker came in from what looked like an attach taco shop, in what appeared to be dirty construction clothing and processed to start making the other customers bagels with out washing his hands. Gross. Not with $ 20 for two not so good bagels with rude service.

Bagels are fine. Lots of choices which is nice, but they are usually out of most of them by 1pm. They have horrific sevice, even for portland. Prior to them splitting into the taco place they were fine service-wise. Slow but friendly. Now it’s like not only do the employees hate their jobs, but they hate helping you more! Today I had 2 employees see me but not help me. Not even a «be right with you.» Then a third employee walked in and made a comment to the other staff about not helping me – while she stormed past me into the back! She stomped in a few minutes later and said«ok» angrily, with her back to me. I told her nevermind and left. If this was a one time incident I’d let it slide, but it’s consistently bad service. Not worth it for a mediocre bagel sandwich.

I’m not entirely sure why I come back here other than its blocks from my house. The food is average at best. The service is extremely poor, slow and unprofessional. It would be great if they could decide to be a Bagel Shop or Taco Shop and focus one thing, rather than fail at both.

Thank you Bakehouse Bagels! We featured Bakehouse Bagels at our recent school event. The teens gobbled them up! Thank you for being so friendly and helpful. Great bagels too! Best regards, Nell

Living in the neighborhood I really hoped that this was going to be an awesome spot. This place could have had potential but time after time(5 or 6 visits now) they continue to disappoint. If you want slow service, confused workers and average food. This place is for you. It’s shouldn’t take 20 minutes to get a beagle sandwich with only 2 other customers total! The inevitable seems to be right around the corner for this little joint.

Okay, their sign was scraped off of the door and replaced with a sign that reads, tacos.’ Also, their number is disconnected so I thought they’d closed, but I was wrong.

You would never know driving into this little strip mall off SW Macadam just how good this tiny bagel shop really is. Artisan bagels! Made in house! Seriously amazing bagels! They have your standard bagels(salt, onion, garlic, everything, etc.), a whole array of different cheese bagels(asiago, bakehouse and Tillamook cheddar), specialty bagels(cheddar bacon, tomato pesto, sun-dried tomato, olive, jalapeño pepper jack, and roasted red pepper) and finally they offer a selection of sweet bagels for those mornings you can’t decide between bagel or donut. I know, the struggle is real. They offer cinnamon sugar, cinnamon raisin, cinnamon almond, cinnamon roll(CINNAMONROLLBAGEL, GUYS!), berry french toast and strawberry cheesecake. I mean, I could continue to put their menu in this review, but I think you get the point– amazing, creative, artisan bagels. At 8AM heading to work, there’s hardly ever a line. Also, they offer an artichoke tomato swiss breakfast bagel for $ 5. Just, stop it. *Excuse me while I carbo-load.

I pulled an illegal U turn at the BOILEDBAGELS sandwich board sign on Macadam and ran in there to grab bagels today. I hadn’t ever heard of the bakery before. I didn’t really even look around much, I was in a hurry and on an impromptu sidetrack bagel mission. Seemed like a nice little place though. Bagels looked tasty — a top row of sweet ones like cinnamon raisin and whatnot. I saw one that looked like peanut butter and jelly. It was hard but I resisted. I mentioned to the nice lady that I’m a bagel snob and cinnamon raisin is a muffin not a bagel. I felt guilty for coveting the peanut butter and jelly looking one. She tolerated my attitude and chatted with me a bit as she rang me up, and mentioned that her and her husband also own the taco place next door. I hope she knows I was trying to be humorous. They did not have pumpernickel but she told me they are making them in small batches, and she then realized my next inquiry would be about availability of salt bagels, which she pre-emptively informed me they were out of. Perceptive! It was 11:00AM on a Tuesday, so I can’t fault them for being out of salt bagels, which don’t ever last long because they are the best thing EVER. So I hastily snagged 2 plain, a sesame, a poppy seed, an asiago and a cheesy everything with a tub of plain cream cheese. $ 6.50. Good deal for half a dozen and what looks to be enough cream cheese for a whole dozen bagels if applied with any restraint at all. The bagels are delicious. Good flavor, soft, dense but still fluffy inside– how to explain it… Like a good bagel. The outsides have good chew, shine, and tooth. Clearly hand formed and well made. These are not rolls with a hole. They have the complex flavor of proper dough– not grocery store white bread bagels. I’d like to have a toaster handy but don’t here at the office. We sliced em up in the break room and went to town straight away on the room temp, untoasted bagels. The cream cheese was whipped just right and tasty. This was proper cream cheese and whipped enough to schmear easily but not to that unseemly greasy frosting-like consistency some places sell where there’s so much air you wonder if the container is even full when they hand it to you. I shall return to this place for more bagels. I would suggest you give them a shot the next time you have a hankering. These are solid authentic bagels. Eat them because they are tasty, and enjoy that they are also locally owned by an owner who’s actually there working on stuff.

First time in here and I am excited to return. The place was was clean and had a good atmosphere. The staff was friendly and attentive. They had complementary self-serve water and cups out which was a nice touch(I like it when places do this so I can quench my thirst but not feel bad when I have to go up to the counter a bunch of times). The bagels themselves were really good — I had a cinnamon brown sugar bagel with vanilla bean cream cheese. I was going to go with my traditional poppyseed bagel but this new flavor was too tempting to me — maybe it is because I am from the Midwest but they had a lot of different options that I hadn’t seen before. I am planning on going back to try some more new tastes. For example their beer schmere — I tried a sample while I was there(never even heard of beer schmere before so I was skeptical at first, but it was surprisingly delish) and now I want to go back for that too — probably not on a cinnamon brown sugar bagel though… maybe on my poppyseed ;-)
