Arby’s

I was on my way back in town (in the ice storm tonight) and decided to grab something in case we didn’t have food at home. We waited extra long because they had to cook the chicken to order which is normally a good thing until I realized after eating half my sandwich that the chicken was raw in the middle. Great, hope I don’t get sick in the next 48 hours after I’ve been on vacation for the last week. Punishment for ordering fast food in the first place? Yuck!!! Lesson learned.

I’ve been going to Arby’s off and on for years. (The «off» periods come when I just get bored of their regular roast beef menu items.) Fortunately, every so often they come up with a new item that I like. Nowadays, I do like their Smokehouse Brisket sandwich. I became aware of it when I saw their TV commercial that touted that the brisket is smoked for 13 hours, which is impressive. Well, the brisket is authentically smoky.. .I see the pink «smoke ring» on the outer edges of the slices of meat. Also, there’s some nice burnt crustiness too. In addition to the brisket, the sandwich also has smoked Gouda, crispy fried onions, BBQ sauce.. .and (bad idea) mayonnaise. I always ask them to LEAVE OFF THE MAYO because I just don’t think mayonnaise belongs in a BBQ sandwich. Another thing I’ve always liked about Arby’s is that they have Curly Fries, and I think theirs are pretty good (they don’t have regular fries). I can’t think of any other fast food place where I can indulge myself with both smoked brisket AND curly fries too, so this is what sets Arby’s apart from others.

Normally, I love coming to Arby’s. They have great coupons so it’s great when you’re on a budget and needing to feed a few people. But the other day I was greatly disappointed when I received my French dip with enough meat to barely cover ¾. I don’t know what was going on this day. I know I had coupons but that doesn’t mean I deserve any less of a sandwich.

Arbys is much better than I remember. My daughter was craving Mozzarella sticks so we went in search of some and found them here. I had a beef bacon and cheddar sandwich, which had real bacon, and was surprisingly tasty. The selection of sauces was very unique.
Arby sauce was like a combination of marinara and ketchup. Horsey sauce is not made of horse but of horseradish. ;-) The honey mustard was creamy and mild, not tart (yum.) The black pepper sauce was a little too smokey for my liking but it was popular enough that someone from the drive thru parked and came in to get some to go. Then of course there was the standard ketchup, mustard, etc.
We also had some curly fries, were were a nice sized serving, hot, fresh, and crispy. Service was very good, and the facility was clean and in good repair. The AC was working in high gear and it was nice and cool inside. The employees even seemed to be having a good time. Something I like to see.

It’s Arby’s and their sandwiches are ALWAYS amazing! The sandwiches we ordered were hot, tasty and everything we wanted! Service… well, it is fast food…
