I pretty much only go here because it’s the closest grocery store to my house and only for things i need on the fly. Why? Many reasons. The main one is Albertsons is overpriced. On one particular visit I was checking out and I noticed that one of my items didn’t ring up on sale. I alerted the cashier and he told me it wasn’t on sale. I stated that there was a big sign on it saying so. He didn’t believe me so I literally had to take him to the aisle to show it. Next he started laying into the other guy about how he should’ve taken the sign down! I don’t care about finger pointing I just wanted the item on sale(it was significantly less, not like 25 cents). The cashier was embarrassed afterward and I felt like«that» customer.

As far as Portland grocery stores go this one is below par. Great location off the 26 but almost nothing organic in here. It’s the closest place for me to buy food but I drive the extra couple of miles to get to New Seasons, Trader Joe’s, or Natural Grocers. I guess I don’t really have a lot to say. I’ve never had a problem with parking or the staff, there just isn’t a great selection of food in here. It is nice that they have a Starbucks, but that’s about it. If they offered more organic choices I would shop here much more often.

Albertson’s is a step above A-OK, in my opinion, hence the 4 star review. I’m out this way on occasion(usually because I’ve been to Orchard) and I rather like this store. It could surely benefit from some modernization, i.e., self-checkout options. I can’t think of many grocery stores that don’t have this as an option to pick at checkout. While I’m on the«self-checkout soapbox», note to Albertson’s: look at Fred Meyer’s self-checkout terminals. That’s how you do it correctly. Yeah, Albertson’s has a club card(or whatever they’re calling it) and yeah, their selection of most everything isn’t as diverse or locally sourced as other places, but they have the basics. I’m perfectly fine with that.

This Albertson’s was remodeled about six years ago… maybe less… but I don’t know why they bothered. It’s still the crummiest looking Albertson’s I’ve ever been in. I just looks old… old…old. Has a bit of an odd smell to it also. Cashiers are quite nice and it’s convenient to where I live, and those are really the only two positives. There is not even a pharmacy!

For starters, the Starbucks in here is lackluster. I always ask for an Americano over ice without water added(a cheaper way to ask for shots over ice) and this seems to be the only place that still adds water anyway. Normally I just take my drink and leave without saying anything, but I got tired of drinking watery espresso. I want my caffeine STRONG, dammit! I have the Starbucks mobile app that allows me to not require cash to buy a coffee. I just make sure my account has enough money on it, I whip out my phone, scan a bar code on it, and I’m one caffeinated mofo without ever needing to carry a single dollar bill. This Starbucks doesn’t do that. Nor do they accept gift cards. The cashier said it was because they«used Albertson’s system» or some nonsense. Granted, it’s not a typical practice to stroll into a grocery store without actual money or a credit/debit card, so I can understand it to some degree, but I find it odd that they don’t seem to even accept their own gift cards. For some reason, this grocery store is a black hole for cell reception. If I need to look up a recipe for ingredients, I’m so hosed. Their deli leaves a lot to be desired. For starters, they have all of the pre-sliced meats and cheeses BEHIND the giant whole hams/turkeys, so I can’t see what they look like sliced and out of the package(am I the only person that wants to see what they look like??). On top of that, the selection is horrible, and low quality. The bakery should just be called«The Region of Cupcakes and Doughnuts» because that’s about where most of the selection lies. I went looking for some really baller rolls for some burgers, and ended up considering if I’d be judged too much if I used glazed doughnuts instead. Honestly. The cashiers all seem nice and personable(ie: they don’t treat me like I’m the bane of their existence and they hate my life). I don’t like using plastic bags, and for the occasional times where I forget my reusable bags, it’s a pain dealing with their paper bags. No handles on them. San Francisco must have spoiled me. All in all, I shop here out of complete necessity and nothing else. Selection and layout is just fucking weird, man.

I swear I am here all too often. Perhaps it’s the fact that I live across the street and am consistantly forgetting/needing items to cook with. Way to go me. Only thing I don’t like about this location is there is no self-check out. The store is a bit smaller than other Albertsons and sometimes they don’t always carry what I’m looking for. All in all it’s just like any other grocery store… a bit overpriced in some instances. I swear I can’t leave that place without spending at least $ 40 on a handful of items. Wine selection is alright. Beer selection could be much better. I always have a harder time finding the meats I want and produce is so-so.

Last week I met 4 donuts that I were unbearably awful. I couldn’t stomach them. I had to throw them away! The day old donuts tasted like they were a week old. Stale. Flavorless. Sad. Not only did I feel guilty for eating unhealthy food. But I also felt swindled for spending $ 1.99 for these door stoppers.

If you want to stand in line for 45 minutes to buy one item — this is the place for you. I’ve given them three chances and that was two too many!

I’ve decided to change the status of my Albertson’s review, because I everyone deserves second chances. I went there earlier this week, and it was crawling with corporate… the aisles were noticeably spic and span, and there was not one out of date item in the dairy case. Likewise, the eggs were all in tact… not a Humpty Dumpty in the house:) It’s nice when social media can help a store make changes for the better… good job, Albertson’s… I’ll be back in a few weeks, and update accordingly :) But, I DO call Shenannigans on the five star poster who has only reviewed one thing…:(
