The brisket was delicious and the greens and Mac and cheese were also great. It’s a small owner business that has great food and great customer service.

Wing and Prayer is a misleading name for a BBQ joint.
Had the ribs… they were very fresh.
Rhonda makes the best sweet potato cake with fabulous frosting — I ever had.
(and I hate sweet potatoes)

She only makes it once a week (along with other desserts)
So, when it’s gone, it’s gone.

Real soul food. Enjoyed every bite. Had a chicken dinner, split a rack with a friend, and had a 7up pound cake. The Hop n John is amazing.

One of those places you eat at, and can’t wait to return to. Delicious food, and friendly service. I highly reccommend the Hop and John beans.

I eat here every Friday for dinner. They treat my daughter like a princess and for not much money we leave full. The proprietor says she’s is gonna start serving catfish next week. Maybe I’ll start stopping by 2xs per week.

This place is a hidden jewel. Price and quality of their food are just awesome! I called to place an order and there was a misunderstanding so I ended up getting Mac & cheese instead of mixed greens however, Mac & cheese was great! You can not beat the combination of saucy BBQ ribs with Mac & cheese. Right??? Next time, I’m gonna get the mixed greens though. I gotta try it at least!
Ribs were great. To me, it was a bit chewy. It wasn’t like so tender and juicy that melts in your mouth type of ribs BUT it had that smoky flavor and covered with tangy BBQ sauce. (That’s why they put lots of napkins in my to-​go bag) it was chewy maybe because I visited around 9PM which was pretty late.

— Two sides (Mac & cheese, Hop-​n-​John) $ 1.50 each
— Two corn muffins $.50 each
So total $ 29
It was so much food for two people. I’m a serious carnivore and I couldn’t finish them.
Definitely coming back in a couple of days! Highly recommend.

Unbelievably good! It feels like home right when you walk through the door (all credit to Rhonda for her welcoming personality and warm hugs!) It was my first time there and she gave me little sample cups to try a few options. Let me just say: pulled pork, mac n’ cheese and the collard greens are TO DIE FOR! I’m not a dessert person usually, but she talked me into getting one of the sweet potato pound cake (cream cheese frosting & filling), which was amazing and only $ 1.00. Sides are $ 1.50.
Highly, highly recommend if you’re in the market for comfort food.

Great ribs and Mac and Cheese! Another great food truck with some real home cooking. Heard the pound cake is awesome and haven’t tasted yet. One order can be shared or if you are like me you can eat a whole dinner by yourself.

Love the home cooked soul food. The oxtails, the greens, the ribs, where do I stop! But if you’ve never tried her sweet potato pound cake oooooooh mmmmmmm gggggggg! I’d never heard of it but I am a fat kid that loves cake! Wow is all I can say about ALL THE FOOD! Yum!

Omg — words cannot describe this place. I am obsessed! The chicken meal was on point. The OC tail, wow! The Mac and cheese — phenomenal!!! Greens = heaven! Hop and johns — YES!!!

I didn’t care for the pulled pork sandwich but my guess is it’s very realistic to soul food roots.

This is the best BBQ spot in Portland. Our city is full of amazing spots to eat, but I haven’t found a great BBQ place until now. I’m from Kansas and I’ve missed good BBQ. No more! This spot fills that void. If you’re on the fence don’t hesitate, this place is the best. Great food, even better service.

I waited too long to come try this place out, and in doing so missed out on some incredible meals. The portions are huge, the flavors are memorable, and the owners are so kind and friendly. I’m not really one to write reviews, but I highly recommend Wing and a Prayer. I had the ribs meal with mac and greens. Wherever they are sourcing their ribs, I’m impressed. I got huge ribs with tons of perfectly-​cooked meat. It is going to be a go-​to dinner spot for me. Oh, and the prices are super reasonable: $ 11.50 for what should have been two full meals for me.

This place is so great! The food is awesome– my kids and i shared a pulled pork sandwich, hopping’ john and mac’n’cheese and it was all devoured. The owners were wonderful with my kids and they offer delivery to my neighborhood (which is HUGE). Loved then and we will be repeat customers.

It really doesn’t get better than this, on all fronts. The food, the people, the place… all make my soul happy.

Meats are always delicious and the sides will surprise you! I tried the Hop n Johns and they’re so tasty. Give this place a shot.

WHOAH! Yum! Stopped by to check out A Wing and a Prayer and we were warmly welcomed by Rhonda. She walked us through the menu, let us sample some Hoppin’ John. Split the pulled pork sandwich, cornbread, Hoppin’ John, and macaroni and cheese. So good! I’ll definitely be back

Who knew they had soul food in Portland, OR! The food is amazing! Bed hoppin john I’ve had since my great grandmother was alive. Didn’t get the guy’s name, but he definitely went out of his way to hunt down my hotel to deliver the food. I will make a trip to the restaurant in the near future!

! Me & the Mr. split a bbq beef ribs dinner (12.50) ribs are huge and juicy.. omg and the bbq sauce (holy sh*@) is is so good I want it in a bottle. To quote the Mr. «You know it’s good when your licking your fingers after». With the ribs we got 2 sides & a corn muffin included. We ordered hop-​n-​john which was amazing and the mac-​n-​cheese. The mac-​n-​cheese is so the star. Baked, cheesy & sooooo yummy that we ordered another side of it (sides are ONLY 1.50)!! We also added a side of greens which were good but not great. Oh yeah and I had a soda an he had a lemon pound cake cupcake (I stole a bite an holy heaven is all I can say). All this awesome food for TWO and we left full for under $ 17.50! I now have a new tasty spot in N.E.
