Same exact thing happened to me, applied online and received rent quote of $ 1355 for apt #308 to move in on 10/12/2015. Was approved, sent email to office regarding no pets, lease term, etc. Was told I would need to pay a half months rent of $ 677.50 as a deposit. I agreed. Next, I received my welcome letter and now rent was $ 1629. I emailed the office back to inquire on the discrepancy.(please note: no one answers at 20 on Hawthorne, you have to call Tupelo Alley apts to get a live person.) The girl who answered told me that the online system was wrong and that the rent was $ 1629. I explained what the other person had told me and she said, «as I said sir, the online system is wrong.» Very rude and will not be living there. Have contacted VP to get application fee back. My husband and I lived here for a year, and we were quite disappointed with the management of this place. When we first moved in, a small management company owned it and we absolutely loved the staff there. They were responsive with requests, organized, and very friendly. A month or two after we moved in, the building was sold to a much larger management company, and a lot changed. Within the year that we lived there, there were around 5 different managers at the building, as the staff turn-over was extremely high. It was very poorly staffed, as the manager was only there two-three days per week, usually with limited hours. The biggest issue of the staff turn-over was a lack of communication between managers. We would be told one thing by one manager, and then the next manager would tell us this wasn’t true or we would have to go through a process to repeatedly explain situations to new managers. We were told by one manager it was OK to sublet our apartment(as we decided to move out before our lease end); this manager told us that if our subletters moved out within the last month of our lease, we would not be charged the lease breakage fee and they would show the apartment to potential renters before our official lease end date(so we could potentially not have to pay the full price of the last month’s rent). When it came time to do this, there was new management, and we were told that what the former manager told us was illegal and they therefore would not honor anything that we were told. They refused to show our apartment like they said they would; additionally, they told us that we would have to pay the $ 4000 lease breakage fee if someone else rented it within the last month(completely contradicting what we were previously told). As it was their error, we were furious that they would not remedy the situation or honor our prior agreement(we even had much of it in writing). For a long time, there were issues with packages being stolen in the building. At one point, someone graffiti-ed in the elevator, tore down all the paintings in the lobby, and left beer cans on the floor. We knew someone within the building was stealing the packages, as tenants would find packages addressed to them empty in the recycling room. The issue of security was never fully resolved while we lived there, as they did not put in security cameras as requested or find another satisfactory way to fix this problem. Given how much we were paying for rent, this did not seem acceptable. Additionally, when we were asked to fill out a survey of our experience at the building and we honestly filled it out, we received a response that basically told us why our dissatisfaction was wrong… It was very invalidating, and we never felt comfortable again giving our feedback. On the plus side, the building itself is very modern and the views from our apartment were gorgeous. We couldn’t have asked for a better location, as the neighborhood has so many great restaurants, cafes, etc.
