We made the decision like the hundreds of other people to go to Indiana Dunes State park on Memorial Day. After sitting in the car for 3 hours we finally saw the line that was stretched out along the road. Deciding that it would take far too long to sit in that line we headed to the visitor’s center. The center was full of people but there were plenty of rangers to help. We were able to walk right up to the desk and speak with a lovely female ranger who was so helpful and gave us great directions for hikes to see the dunes without waiting in line for over an hour to get into the park. The ranger was very knowledable and got us on our way quickly. I would reccomend stopping here to learn more about the area anytime you are visiting the dunes.

What a great place to stop for: — Maps — Clean bathrooms — Kid’s activities ‘n’ learnin’ — Kindly staff — Information(just ask)! Stop here before you hit up the Indiana Dunes for maps, tips on where to hike and swim. You can even picnic it up at their tables outside. They’ve got some nice examples of Indiana flora and fauna outside, this is a great place, and an example of money well spent, Indiana!

Nice visitor center with helpful free brochures about the area. If you are new to the area I recommend stopping here first for information on the dunes area.
