Great addition to port Washington restaurants. Love the fish on the walls. My kids were really into them. Food was excellent and beautifully plated. Service was friendly and very helpful. Looking forward to our next meal at fish on main.

I was here yesterday for Mother’s Day. Let me start out by saying I am in full agreement with the NY Times review and the food is very good. The issue was they limited their Mother’s Day menu only offering 3 entrée options. This made no sense to me since the restaurant is generally only open for dinner so when you’re giving people daytime options to entice them to try this newish restaurant with the hopes they’ll come back, this isn’t the way to go about it. The manager clearly takes pride in the food and his Mediterranean chowder showed it — it was delicious. It’s the same owner as Ahyan’s Shish-Kebob across the street, and having gone there for years now, I was at Shish-Kebob last month for my birthday and to my surprise it was completely empty. Something is going on that needs to be fixed right away there, but back to Fish on Main — the restaurant is visually stunning, very good service and really, really good food. I will certainly go back to try other things on their dinner menu.

It’s the Refurbish and Renovated Ayhan’s Fish Kebab. The fish and seafood is as good as old one with a more modern interior design. They got ride of the Devil’s Ivy that the old Ayhan’s restaurant kept for many years. We had dinner last Sunday. The dinner crowd waiting for their food, a 20 minutes for appetizer was needed. That’s the reason for it’s not five stars.

I’m afraid my experience was more like that of Mark & Joshua’s. After reading the New York Times review I was excited to try this new fish restaurant. I and three companions had dinner on April 7th and found the experience most unsatisfying. Every aspect was horrendous; the cocktails(the sparkling drink was neither sparkling nor cold), the food was quite ordinary & the service was rude & inattentive. One of the diners ordered mahi-mahi which was supposed to come with scallops & a crawfish sauce. When the entrée was delivered without the accompaniments the waiter left the fish on the table to get cold while we ate and he eventually returned with the missing items. We certainly will not be returning.

This place is absolutely beautiful. We had the prefixe menu– my wife had the baked clams, broiled Seafood platter and bread pudding. Everything was great. AND prepared perfectly. I had an amazing Seafood chowder, the fish of the day which was Cod; beautifully presented with a delicious sauce. We had the New York cheesecake and a nice bottle of wine. THe service was great, and the ambiance was wonderful. We will be coming back very soon, and so happy to have a Great seafood restaurant in Port Washington.

Our experience was very different than the other reviews, one who suggested it was the best meal on earth, and others had terrible meals. To start, this is a very cool space. High ceilings and nice lighting, sort of hip, sort of elegant. This was a refreshing change from typical Long Island drab. On the whole the food was decent. Our salad staters, the beet salad and the Mediterranean Salad, were both good, I had the Bayou sword fish which I found very tasty although I thought it was supposed the come with crawfish, but I did not mind. My wife enjoyed her salmon as well. We ended with the chocolate molten cake which was very good, also. So I loved the space, and had a good meal, why 3 stars. Although the space had a certain elegance and the food was close to very good, the service was very spotty, the crowd was on the old side, and I am no puppy, and there just was an odd vibe, like the place was a poser.. Sort of hard to express the feeling. The facts were: they were out of the wine by the glass I chose, which by the way was then most expensive glass; our salads took a long time to come and just as we were discussing getting getting another since we enjoyed it so much we were told the meals were out, even before we were finished the salads; our server had trouble serving, there was a lot of reaching over us… etc and then the vibe. They have a cool space, a great location, and seem to know how to make a good meal. If they can get it all together with the service stuff it could be great addition.

I ate at Fish on Main this past Sunday evening with my wife and one year old son. It appeared that most tables spent the evening sending their food back or complaining. It was definitely an older crowd that evening. My son’s chicken fingers came out raw although the item was removed from the bill. Our three course prix fixe meal was mediocre at best. The tuna tartar app was bland and the seared tuna app was over cooked and dry. The salmon entrée was over cooked as well. The service was extremely slow and the two managers and wait staff seemed to be constantly confused amongst one another. We were provided an explanation that there was only one experienced server working despite having just been written up in Newsday. The restaurant was full. We gave up on Fish Kebab years ago and the rebranded experience was much worse. I’ll stick with Shish Kebab across the street next time. It’s still one of my favorite take out locations.

F.I.S.H on Main is a place that Port Washignton has been needing. The food is spectacular, the service is on point and the ambiance is like no other! I had their Tuna nachos for an appetizer and It left me wanting more! I highly recommend the jumbo stuffed shrimp, it’s delicious, light and filling. My partner had the scallops. Cooked to perfection, in addition it came with this amazing lobster risotto. it’s to die for. After everything we wanted a light dessert, the waitress recommendesd the Greek yogurt parfait… Perfect ending to a wonderful evening. Try it!

This place is now partially renovated and made over as «f.i.s.h. on main.» and it is apparently Ayhan’s attempt at fine dining. The prices are higher, the choices are more limited and the fish is not as good. The penne was gritty, the branzino was overdone and the three stuffed shrimp in an entrée were tiny and overstuffed with something loaded with bread. We always loved the old Ayhan’s with its moist, fresh whole grilled fish and good value. We assume you can still get much of this across the street at his shish kebab restaurant and that’s where we will now go. We don’t see ourselves coming back to the new place anytime soon.
