The people are friendly, the location is wonderful as it is both on the saltwater beach with shipping passing, and, it is an easy short walk into town with good restaurants and shopping. We stay there probably twice a year because of the above. BUT, the place is a mudhole in even the lightest rain, the sewer hookups for some odd reason have 45 degree tops making it very hard to hook up to, and there is NOWIFI. The office gives you a list of businesses in the area with hotspots you can visit while meanwhile they sell a subscription service to one that costs a couple bucks an hour. They claim they can’t offer wifi because that would«complete with the wifi provider» which is a load of hokum because every other city and port owned facility we’ve stayed at does provide it. Odd they don’t mind sending people to OTHER businesses that pay for it. They seem to think they’re special? They do have a good cable tv package though. In summary, a great location but the park is a dump.

We enjoy this marina because the surrounding town of Port Townsend is the perfect mix of small and quaint with interesting historical buildings, with enough shopping and services to provision before heading to the San Juans for the week. Insider tip: Reservations here are important if you want to get in the marina, rather than having to anchor outside. Sometimes the marina’s voicemail says they’re booked solid, when really they don’t have the staff to get through all the voicemails. Call Boat Haven, which is also owned by the Port and is well staffed, to see if they can book you at Point Hudson. If not, Boat Haven offers transient moorage on a fist come, first served basis, although it’s a bit longer of a walk into town. Services: Showers and laundry; 30⁄50 power; water; haul-out; adjacent yard, mechanics, and sail loft. I’ll start with the family activities, since we’re always in desperate search of those. The beach on the other side of the point offers great play, and usually great kite-flying grounds. There’s a small playground at the near edge of town just past the chandlery. Bigger kids may like a stroll into town, but for the toddlers, come prepared with a stroller or backpack. For the adults, the beach provides great photo ops and barge-watching. There are a number of restaurants at the marina itself, and several more in town. The town also provides an almost limitless selection of fine art and jewelry. The drawbacks of this marina are that, although it’s well protected and calm, a number of private passenger ferries use it as their port, so the diesel fumes and blocked entrance while they’re heading in and out are not awful, but they are less than ideal. Otherwise, a good place to stop when crossing the straits.

I normally review these on another web site, but this merits a mention here. I would stay in winter. The summer prices are outrageous! If you stay on the«point,» you get spectacular views of Puget Sound and the Ferries going to the dock. If you stay in the«loop» area, you still get good views of Puget Sound. Plus, if you stay here, don’t bother cooking. There are many wonderful restaurants within walking distance, although they are a bit pricey.
