I think every local in the Small town eats here on Sunday… I was passing through with my family after a trip from Corpus Christi… The food and service was good… it was also a great place to people watch if your not from there… We were definitely the table who were wanders passing through on our way back to Houston… Overall we all enjoy our food…

The service was really good. The food was excellent. I had the three taco lunch special with soft corn tortillas and beef taco meat, I put salsa on the tacos and I expected them to be messy. A little grease, a little juice, a little salsa… You don’t eat tacos neatly. ever. My husband had carne guisada and was extremely happy with his meal. We will eat here again when we come back to town.

Clearly any review posted previous to mine was someone related to the owners of this establishment, or quite possibly void of taste buds… and well. also standards. Mediocre is a huge compliment here and if I could give no stars, I would. We were greeted with a smile, escorted to a table buy one waitress and shortly after seating us, she sat down at the table next to us and started eating. We were then given menus and utensils by another worker and given«salsa» I use this word in the loosest possible form because in all actuality its salsa flavored water, nothing stuck to the horrible tasting chips we were given so it was wasted. We thought we could possibly choke down a few chips by ordering«queso» ‚(again a term I use loosely as this was not deserving of the title) We’ve all walked through Costco or even Walmart and seen the huge can of Rico’s cheese and are familiar with it from baseball fields or school events. This is what was brought to us and the worst thing about it was the fact it was served lukewarm. Our waitress returns with our drinks. We get 3 cups of ice and 3CANS of Dr Pepper. I must say the Dr Pepper was fabulous. In hindsight staying after the first 5 minutes was a huge mistake I could go on about the food but I’ll just say the rest was not only horrible… but almost sickening and all we did was pick at it and then decided to leave. I’d also like to mention the cashier at the establishment wearing the ever classy Family Guy shirt reading«You Suck» As I payed for our ridiculously overpriced garbage, she mentioned she usually only see’s locals and didn’t recognize me. I thought to myself. «Oh, don’t worry. you wont see me again». I hope you utilize this review, save yourself a trip, and skip the Monterrey Café.

Every single time I go to PL this is wear I have to stop. I think a lot of it has to do with nostalgia. It’s where my Dad and Grandma always took me to eat. Also the foods cheap and tasty. Their carne guisada is great. Very tender. The tacos are good too. The enchiladas are good, but greasy and the beans really have no flavor. The service is hit or miss, but always friendly. Go in and fill up and moan about how much you ate and be pleasantly surprised at your bill.
