Tommy’s Place

Overall good place. Everyone there was really nice, have seen this place packed out to the max and extremely dead and had pretty much the same experience either way. Servers are nice and are sociable.

Terrible service. No host or manager on staff. No one greeted us or even acknowledged as we came in, and we stood there waiting for at least 15 minutes, still no one acknowledged us. We had to practically chase a server down (all servers were ignoring us as well) who told us we would have to wait 20 minutes for a table. Then people who came in after us were seated before us! The food was mediocre at best, steak had no flavor, we were brought the wrong drinks. Our server couldn’t care less. A terrible experience overall. Definitely not worth your time or money!

The amount is huge, crab cake sandwich tastes not surprising, steak is decilious, I like sweet potato fries most!

Claims to be a family restaurant. I guess only if you have a family of four or less, or are in their «family». Poor hostess and manager on 12÷5÷2015 while the Charles Dickens Festival was happening. Manager favored another family, while the hostess passed off several lies to my family about a table being ready. The other family claimed they were waiting 10 mins, but I guess my family waiting 20 mins behind the hostess podium, wasn’t odd at all for the manager. The hostess never took anybody’s name, so in that lies the confusion of who’s who. Then we were told a table was being ready, 10 mins later, the people at our future table was signing their check, 10 mins after that, she told us the people at the table were finishing eating. She couldn’t explain how those statements in that order don’t match up. Meanwhile the other family was whining, and were offered beverages by the manager. When we confronted the manager about the situation, I asked him if he at all wondered why we were standing where we were for so long, and he brushed it off. He stated how there were no available tables. I then pointed out that he offered the family that cut ours drinks, and we were getting ignored. He said «I’ll get you what ever you want, sir.» I replied, «We’d like a table then.» Then he walked off. After talking it over, we left.
I personally don’t like to get into a predicament with a place that will serve me food, before I eat. You never know what extras they’ll give you.
I really wanted to like this place. I really did. But for some reason, they just didn’t want a generous tipping party of seven to stay and try it. But after reading some of the food reviews, maybe all was not lost…

Avoid this place. Bartenders and bouncers are on a power trip. We waited in line for 30 minutes and when we got to the door we weren’t let in because we had out-​of-​state licenses. We were asked to show a 2^nd form of ID. When I presented my credit card I was told it was no good since it didn’t have my picture on it. Who has a credit card with a picture? My friend and I are both 26 years old so no issue with looking under age.
Very disappointed given that this was our first night out in Port Jeff.

Food was actually good, the menus were filthy though… and the bartender was really rude! Talking to her friends drinking at the end of the bar about her period! Yes you read that right! Not what you want to hear while your eating.
I would eat the food again, but probably wouldn’t go back if something else was open.

Good place. Great expectations of a tipsy patron come 1 or 2 am… never has Tommy let me down.

I wasn’t really impressed with my meal. I ordered a salad with walnuts, cranberries and Gorgonzola. The dressing was a balsamic vinaigrette. I don’t know why, but the dressing was horrible. It ruined my salad experience. I ended up eating int most of it just dry. I don’t know how they could mess up a simple salad, but they did. I also ordered a cup of clam chowder. It was good, but we had to battle about 3 – 4 flies that were trying to land on our plates. Not al all appetizing. Sorry, won’t be back.

They have the best lobster bisque soup! It is the best I’ve ever had! We go there just for that! And fried calamari! Sitting outside is the best too!

Came here the Saturday before Labor Day. Absolutely terrible service. We got there around 9:30−10. Sat down and waited for someone to acknowledge us. The waiter would always walk past us to go to the table sitting right behind us. It was close to 20 mins before I had to call someone over for menus. I ordered baked clams as an appetizer and a burger as entrée. I asked if the clams can come out before the burger. And the complete opposite happened. Received the clams same time as the burger. The food was ok. I asked for my burger medium temp and got it well done. Will not be visiting this place again.

Great place for so many years Tommy runs a great business and with the new taps he put in what a great beer selection

Most ridiculous bartender ever. Refused a my friend who’s of legal age to drink. Didn’t give him a reason why he wasn’t going to serve him. Ruined the night out in port jeff. Never going to go back their because of him. Total idiot bartender with no idea what he’s doing. Told my friend to leave even though he’s 23 years old. Bartender was very confrontational for no reason and just lost 4 paying customers.

We walked out. Servers didn’t bring water or menus even after 25 minutes waiting and asking for help. When we walked out they didn’t say anything just smiled and said have s nice day. We were polite and everything. Wow.

Always good food and good drinks! I have never been disappointed with lunch or dinner here and the atmosphere is perfect, especially the outside deck.

When I have come here for food it’s ok. A regular pub. Has an outside its ok not bad. Prices are very reasonable. When I come here for drinks at 11 pm it becomes a usual port jeff sh*t show. I walked in and before i ordered a drink someone puked on my shoes. Good stuff.

After a debate with where my friend and I were going to eat, we decided to try out Tommy’s.
Very laid back but friendly staff. The atmosphere walking in was just like how a sports bar should be even with an unpainted sheet rock wall.
Ordered the chili burger done medium but was brought to me well done. Asked the waitress if I could have a new one made and had no problem with it. She even let my friend take the old burger instead of throwing it away.
Overall, it’s just a basic sports bar with normal food. Nothing too special.

Went for lunch on a Saturday. Server was great. Food was meh.
As far as I can tell, everything on the menu comes from the restaurant supply house, to Tommy’s freezer, through his fryolater, then straight to your table. Not much originality or skill demonstrated. Gives «bar food» a bad name.
Great beer selection. Lukewarm coffee.
Probably a pretty good place to drink a few after a day on the water or shopping away some of Daddy’s money.

This weekend I had some drinks down at the newly renovated Tommys Place. The place looks great. They just put in a 30 tap craft beer system. It’s like nothing I have ever seen before. It also has all 6 Port Jeff Brewery Brews on tap which is the only place around that has that. The place inside was packed along with the outside brick patio. They also built a brand new outside fireplace on the back patio which I can’t wait to see in use come the cooler summer nights.
The new renovation really has a nice Manhattan feel and the new wood work that reminds me of an old Americana vibe takes you back to the pictures that are hanging around the dining room with shots from the 1800’s.
We will definitely be coming back for the horse races coming up in May because they have OTB and you can bet the ponies while watching them live with a nice sandwich and craft beer in hand.
THIS PLACE IS A DEFINITE MUST !!!

Tommy’s is a Local bar located right on Main Street in Port Jefferson. Casual bar with a capital «C».
Great place for beer, wine not so much.
Homemade Popcorn is made by the bar area which not only makes it smell delicious but is a great little bar treat while having a beer or two or maybe three.
The food is typical bar style food

Fun place to hang out. Inexpensive food and friendly staff. Always a pleasant experience. I’ve been coming here for years and plan to continue that trend.
