I have mixed feelings about our experience there this weekend. We were a group with 12 girl scouts &5 adults. We had the kids sit at 3 tables & the adults at another table. I spoke to the waitress at the beginning about the kids just being able to order the kids meals. They were all $ 4.29 each including beverage. The beverages available for the kids were not listed. Since we were not at the same table I wasn’t able to hear what beverages the girls ordered. I don’t know how the beverage ordering went(if the waitress was suggesting items not included or if the girls started ordering that way). My daughter said that the waitress listed items like hot chocolate & root beer floats. Regardless, since I had already spoken to her about the kids meals she should have only taken orders or suggested the beverages that were included. If a girl had ordered an off the kids meal beverage I feel she should have asked me about it. Instead, at the end of the meal we were presented with a bill for over $ 80 when I was expecting it to be $ 54.57(including tax). We had budgeted for the meal to be $ 65.48(just the girls) and a 20% tip since we were a large group. The adults paid for our own meals separately. I was in shock & panic over this situation as we didn’t even have that much in our account to pay the $ 80 something bill let alone tip. At first they offered to take $ 1 off per girl for the beverages but that was still too much. At this time of year we had a very modest budget. There was no room for overages. They did eventually make it right and charge us only for the kids meals. We did leave a 20% tip. Crisis averted — thank God! Now on to the meal. I was curious to order something with the cornbread since I had read the reviews. So I got the soup, ½ sandwich w/cornbread combo. The waitress suggested the french onion & I love french onion. I order it a lot at various restaurants. It was okay. Broth was a bit weak on flavor but the real disappointment was the cheese. I have never had a restaurant use a cheese that was like a white american cheese on a french onion but that’s what it was. I ate it since I was hungry but did not enjoy it. It should always be real cheese(mozzarella, swiss, etc.). The BLT sandwich was fine. The cornbread was meh. It was good not great. It looked & tasted exactly like the cornbread that I get from Gordon Food Service. Overall the rest of the party seem to enjoy their meals. I’m not usually a picky person & since I have worked in the food service industry in the past I am very forgiving of what goes on. Would I go again? Yes, I would just order something different and be very clear with the waitress about the ordering. She was friendly and courteous, the meals were timely, the prices were reasonable. We were able to get to our event on time. All is well.

My husband and I have come here on a few occasions for breakfast, and although the service was always very friendly and efficient, the food was just mediocre. For homemade recipes, I was expecting more flavorful foods, for example: a little cinnamon in the French toast would go a long way! Really… a long way! I remember the coffee to be quite good, but the corn bread was rather dry. I wish I could give Loxton’s a better review because my husband has fond childhood memories with his grandfather here, but I really don’t thing the food is up to par with the other breakfast places in the area. Perhaps the lunch and dinner menu items are better tasting than the breakfast?! I would like to hope so.

A friend was in town and we stopped in for breakfast-at-noon. Our waitress was none other than Mary, and she did a fantastic job. I guess she’s a keeper. The food was great, prices were worth writing about and the service was excellent! Yes, I guess she’s a keeper, alright. I’m glad I was able to bring my friend here — great dining experiences are always more memorable than mediocre ones. Keep up the good work!

In a word, satisfying. :) The portions are large, the price isn’t, service is good. Definitely worth checking out if you’re in the area. A step above most of our local establishments.

The French Toast is «Texas Toast» thickness and very tasty with a side of grilled ham. That’s my favorite when eating breakfast here. When dining at Loxton’s for lunch I like sharing a hot meatloaf sandwich(bread on the side) with my little granddaughter. She makes«Mmmm» sounds when eating the meatloaf so that’s why it’s a repeat for us. I am happy to take her to Loxton’s as they are very family friendly and always have their restaurant decorated seasonly. Lots for her to look at in between bites! Great service here.

I’m sorry the previous one-star reviewer has such high-and-mighty taste palette that they can’t appreciate anything that’s basic, good home cooked food. This is not a chain restaurant, and if that’s what you want, go get yourself kicked out of an Applebee’s, but don’t come here. Loxton’s is a family run restaurant with excellent food, superb service and unbeatable prices. The previous reviewer is correct: it’s known for its corn bread, which IMHO is the best in Southeast Michigan. It’s so much more though — heart breakfasts, excellent salads and lighter fair, all the way to mouth watering Prime Rib. Some of the best soups in Port Huron as well. Again, if your looking for good home cooked food, great service and hearty portions in a clean, friendly atmosphere, come here. If your expecting coat-and-tails, Prada-wearing glitzy $ 45 a plate dinners, well, go someplace else.

If we’re talking Loxton’s, we’re talking corn bread. Its four stars in the family restaurant category, never had a bad meal here. This place is reliable fare at a fair price. Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner. Burgers and sandwiches are very good. Nice prices. Friendly service. Pickerel is large and good. All you can eat perch are tender and delicious. Coleslaw is sweet and a little runny, I’d opt for the salad.
