Was up there trying to get a feel for the area and looking at a few houses. I was by the beach and wanted to consult my gps. I pulled over next to an area with chain link fences k rail and cones. Never even turned off the engine when a guy in uniform asked me if I knew where I was. I said Port Hueneme. He asked if I could read the sign. I said no as it was in Spanish. He said wait in the car. He returned with a citation for$ 53. I’m no longer looking to live in Port Hueneme. Thanks officer for keeping me from making a huge mistake.

A bit disappointed at the banana festival and still hours after I left. There were lots of bananas everywhere but where were the banana split booths? Banana pudding? Banana margarita or daquiri? Banana ice cream? Chocolate covered bananas. That is what this festival needed. It was a beautiful day for this and there was a nice selection of vendors but not enough banana food items! Still craving that banana margarita.

I observed some industrialized hard hat evolutions here at Port Hueneme involving some of the crane services, port operations, and ship’s crews. The port authority personnel kept the scenario at a safe level. They were very professional and handled all evolutions with care. Big ships also come here transporting foreign cars bound for the states. They are placed here in customs until they are cleared before being transferred to the final destination.

I’m new in this area but so far loving living by the water. I am very critical of beach towns because I am very spoiled due to having to come from very beautiful Hawaii. I’m loving the huge white sand beach, friendly people, blue water(not as nasty as Bay Area where I just came from), not too hot, not too cold mild weather. It’s convenient with lots of popular stores for your everyday needs and places to eat. The harbor is pretty clean, uncluttered unlike some harbors. I’m sure I’ll love every minute of living here. Only thing to note is that I’ve been warned not to wander in too deep into Oxnard neighborhood because of gang activities — personally, I haven’t seen much of that yet but don’t really care to explore that option either…
