Great selection of kayaks. Very helpful staff who warned us about the cranky landowners in this area of Michigan’s thumb. Kiting maybe an understated activity but the winds from like you’re on our excellent for this hobby! Be sure to bring your kite if you come. My only complaint has nothing to do with this business but the Internet which listed the wrong address. Helpful towns people set is on the right path.

The staff is excellent. They were very helpful and accommodating. We didn’t have reservations and everything was booked. They managed to write our information down and said they’d call us when kayaks would be available. About 15mins rolls by and miraculously, a couple people cancelled their reservations. We decided to rent the kayaks all day to go to Turnip Rock. The trip was very exhausting but well worth it. It was so beautiful and untouched by man. The water was shallow and clear. Cool to the touch since we were exposed to the open sun. Well worth the money. Took tons of photos and made great memories.

WORTHTHETRIP! Drove up for the afternoon from Detroit to see the Turnip Rock. The wife and I got there and were told that it would be a combined 3 hour roundtrip on a kayak. Was worried about my wife’s stamina as she’s not very physical, but finally decided to just do it. It was a bit strenuous, but w/intermittent rests, we made it there and back. Once you get to the rock, there are a couple places where you can beach your kayak and enjoy some snacks and refreshments in the shade w/a great view. It was very clean, people cleaned up after themselves. It’s so weird how there’s actual life growing on top of a rock…

We drove two hours to Port Austin for a family kayak trip. Unfortunately when we arrived the wind had shifted and they advised us not to kayak because it was too rough. They were kind enough to suggest we go to one of their competitors who rented kayaks on a nearby river and saved what would have been a disappointing day for our family. We appreciated their honesty in not wanting us to go out when it might not be safe. They lost a sale that day but earned our respect as business owners. We heard about this company on the Under the Radar show.

My husband and I saw this place featured on Under the Radar Michigan and decided to try it while on a camping trip up in the«Thumb». This place offers two different kayak trips: the one that goes to the famous Turnip Rock and the other that follows the western coast. We chose the shorter(approximately 3 hour) tour and skipped the Turnip Rock tour since they said it would be about a 5 hour trip. We manage to see several rock formations and paddled out to «Flat Rock». You can portage your kayak at Flat Rock and explore the rock. This place offers single and tandem kayaks. Also important, they have various kayaking gear and a bathroom where you can change. Overall we found this to be a pleasant experience.

Great day on the water. Staff was very helpful in getting the 4 families(13 kids + 7 adults) all situated without any issues — a few of us showed up @ an hour after the main group, but that was not an issue. The staff gave us some instructions and we were off. Stopped by a few of the rock area — dove off one rock group and had picnic lunch out on flat rock. All in all a great day on the water. We were camping in the area, but talked about going again as a day trip, only 2 hours from Oakland county. The shop also offers a discount if you have the Michigan passport pass on your license plate.

heads up… Turnip Rock is literally the size of a turnip. It was a bit of a let down. My friend paddled up beside me glanced at the land formation and said«oh that’s kind of cool… but let’s get going so we can make it to turnip rock.» ummmm… sorry friend, this is turnip rock. The light house, which incidentally you are not suppose to go to using this company’s kayaks, is a much more interesting sight to behold. I would suggest a kayak or canoe trip in Point Crescent State Park as an alternative. It is absolutely beautiful and serene there with much to see, and many beautiful beaches to enjoy. This company does offer to deliver and pick up kayaks to your cottage or camp site, so that may be a good choice.

The staff here is excellent. The planned routes they have for both kayaking and biking were quite helpful on our trip to Turnip Rock. Definitely an asset to the area.
