Ed’s is closed. The new place is Beringers. The owner is terrible. The waiter(probably his first waiter job) was extremely attentive and helpful. I visited on day 2 of opening. My shrimp kabob was way under cooked. Raw actually. I even hesitated to send it back because one on the end was done and I was starving. When after the second attempt of delivering it cooked. The owner approach our table and said«Sorry but they are cooked» Seriously? Am I imagining the mush in my plate? I’ve never ever sent back any meal. It shocked me that he was so rude. No apologies no nothing. He and his wife on the other hand spent 30 minutes talking to patrons at another table while we waited for a remedy to raw shrimp dinner. I will never return. Too bad because when this was Ed The Beachcombers we frequented every week. Lost a dinner spot in port A. Don’t waste you money.

The crab cake was pretty good, the flounder was over done and the burger needed more flavor. The same is true of the gumbo, not bad but not great. It would be a fine place for lunch but not for the price.

Our new favorite in Port A! Great bisque, filet Mignon, mussels, fried shrimp, and baked potatoes! We will be back! Rene was an awesome waitress too!

Pretty horrible wait and rude staff. It’s Port A in the summertime, we definitely expected to have a wait. Looking into the restaurant, it looked like a ghost town. Waitress/hostesses didn’t care at all about service. Never been here before and probably won’t return. Dear owner, hire better people! The ones you have ruin your business.

Just had the best the crab cakes ever. The food was excellent and well worth the wait. Used the wait time to have a drink outside in the bar and danced with my grandkids under the stars! Was an awesome ending ti a perfect day in Port A.

Couldn’t tell you how the food is, we were never served. They told us that the wait was 45 minutes, but it took them an hour and 15 minutes to seat us. Once we were seated, the server told us that it will take an an hour for our food to come out after we place our order, but we couldn’t place our order just yet because the staff wasn’t ready for us. We decided to leave at this point because it was late and we wasted way too much time at this dump.

Went in on a Tuesday vacationing from Dallas. Went here after everywhere else was packed. Although it did take a while to be seated even though not really busy at all, we just drank at the bar. Once seated the food did take a while to be served BUT it was well worth it. Looking at the other reviews I don’t get it. I did spend more than I normally would at a restaurant but it was sooooo goooood. Me and the old lady had rib eyes and stuffed mushrooms. Cooked perfectly, season perfectly. I would gladly go here again and will next year when back in port A. Oh and dem piña coladas dough!!!

We should have known to skip this place after the other 2 restaurants we stopped at had wait times of 45 minutes and one hour, yet this place was able to seat us immediately. Little did we know the wait time for our food would be over an hour. I will say the décor is spot-on – it’s decorated full-on nautical/beachy and looks great(that’s the one star). Service from our waitress was fine – she apologized a couple of times for the wait. At the end of the night she apologized for«everything» said in such a way that she must’ve known how bad the food was in addition to the wait. Here’s the breakdown of our meal: 1 kid’s tiny burger(dry and no flavor) with a tiny bowl of fruit(2 strawberries and sliced mango and a fruit roll-up) – 7.99; 1 kid’s medium sized chicken tender(seriously – you get ONE), with same fruit – 7.99; overcooked tasteless grilled chicken with lousy deli sliced cheese(and no bacon even though it was supposed to have bacon according to menu, but it did have a few grains of rice(?) stuck to the bottom of it – 8.25; club sandwich with salad – nothing special – can’t remember price, but I guarantee you nothing we were served was worth anywhere near what we paid. Bottom line, skip this place. All their reviews are lousy. Remember – this took over an hour after we ordered. On a not incredibly busy night. Good luck Beachcombers.

Save your money. Way over priced and the food was dreadful. The only item edible was the Mussels Romano. Generous portion enough to share. Full of flavor. That’s why I gave the generous 2-star rating. We had the $ 40 surf and turf. The crab legs were split and broiled burnt(dried & yuck). The Filet Mignon was well done and charbroiled. The stuffed baked potato was burnt. We would have complained but our server never came to check on us. The food was not worth the price at all. Skip Eds.

73.98 is what I paid for our meal. It was not worth it ATALL. Service was good, the waitresses were friendly and attentive. We ordered two cups of gumbo as an appetizer. The gumbo came with a shrimp on top which was the best part of it. The gumbo was spicy… but not in a good way. It’s hard for me to explain… I like spicy food but this wasn’t the good king. The flavor was just… different. She didn’t even finish hers. For the main we both had the grilled shrimp dinner, and got a burger for the kid. Before we ordered the shrimp, she asked how big the gulf shrimp were. The waitress assured us that the shrimp were huge. They weren’t. There were 4 shrimp, conjoined together by a stick. The shrimp were definitely the best part of the meal, hands down. The rest of it was terrible. The vegetables were bland… it looked like they were cooked in some kind of spices or something… but they had no taste. The rice also had no taste and wasn’t cooked all the way, we both had some crunchy grains on both of our plates. The burger was better than our shrimp plates. So to itemize the bill: Two sweet teas– $ 5 1 cup gumbo-6.99 1 cup gumbo-6.99 1 grilled shrimp– 20.99 1 grilled shrimp-20.99 1 kid burger-7.99 Total w/tax– 73.98 No. This was in no way shape or form worth 74 dollars. If you find yourself in port a, pass this place by.

I read the earlier review. The last few times I have been in the bartenders were great. The raw bar is super! They get very busy sometimes with orders, but it is worth the wait.

**I’m only reviewing the Beachcomber bar, not the restaurant** I was really excited to try Ed’s! And perhaps that was my downfall from the start… On a Saturday evening, we walked in a little confused where to sit, where to find a menu, etc, eye-balling the raw food selection, but still ungreeted by either of the two staff members. So we made our way up to the bar to order a drink where the bartender/bar-back(long brown hair) made snide remarks and comments while we showed her our IDs and ordered drinks. Her negative attitude made us feel very awkward and uncomfortable. We took our drinks to one of the wooden tables… which all of them wobbled, spilling our full beers. We fixed it with a napkin under the table. Ok, it’s fine. Some of the tables around us were being served by a bartender as if she was a waitress, but still no one came to our table to ask us what we’d like. So instead my partner and I walked up to the ‘raw bar’ to have a look and place an order, thinking«do we order here? Or are we supposed to be at our table?» The same bar-back girl came behind the raw bar and kind of stared at us awhile, while we waited patiently to be acknowledged. She then said«OH, did you place your order with the „bar tender“, if you place it with her then I’ll get it for you here.» But this«bartender» was busy hurrying around helping other people. So we just stood there and said Oh… so we need to see her first? The girl just stared at us and finally said Ok, just tell me what you want and i“ll put it on your tab. We order some ‘southwest oysters’ and crab legs. She managed to pick out the smallest oysters they had possible on the tray, even though you could see many of them were much larger. The food– was good. Not great. But I like the concept of a ‘raw bar’, so kudos for that. But the«southwest oysters» didnt seem very fresh and the taste wasn’t anything to write home about. The one redeeming quality — we really enjoyed the crab legs! Wish we had gotten more of those and not the oysters. We saw«Ed» or atleast who we thought was Ed, with colored glasses. He was a very friendly host who greeted us as we came and went. But my advice to Ed… hire some people who actually smile and are kind to your customers. The«bartender» I mentioned I think was named Lisa because of the name on our bill, but we never actually conversed with her. The brunette bar-back girl on the other hand… needs some lessons in manners. All in all– we probably won’t be back unless service improves. Please realize: THEREAREMANYPLACESTODRINKINPORT A! And if a customer is treated poorly… why spend your money there? Although we would still give the restaurant a chance because it looked good.
