This is the definition of a hidden gem. Its the type of place that locals go to and hate that things like Unilocal exist bc it brings tourists like me and crowd their joint. Fish shack is awesome. It has to be the ultimate no frills, yummy food spot of South Florida. My friend and I got the oysters and a combo plate of mahi, scallops and shrimp. I could not have asked for better seafood than this. Fresh and cooked perfect, and I mean, we are talking scallops here. We only waited for about 5 minutes but the seating is limited so the wait could be long. But the staff is great too. I got to talk to chef for a brief moment, I thanked him for making such awesome food and gave him a high five. He probably thought I was crazy. If you are in the area, GO! You will not regret it. Lots of people came in to pick up so and they were pretty efficient, so if you’re in a hurry order ahead and get it to go.

I would have never found this place if it wasn’t for Unilocal. This is a very small place with 4 tables and a bar which makes it very cozy. The employees are very friendly, specially the cook/owner whose picture is on the wall holding a crocodile. Most customers know him and he made sure we were happy with our food. I got the grilled mahi and my husband got the grilled combo. The food was served fast and very fresh. You can taste the fish without all the bells and wistles. I will definitely come back.

Had the combo platter the scallops were to die for cooked perfectly, tender and not chewy, very fast service today and friendly staff, thumbs up for the fish shack!! Not your typical high end restaurant but a great hole in the wall with awesome fresh food!

This place is really small and very, very basic. However, the seafood is excellent. What is unusual is the portion size that they give you — it’s quite big for seafood in my experience. I’ve been to this place a few times, and it’s always been a good experience.

The Fish Shack is pretty well named. It’s located in an unassuming small old school commercial strip… strip mall is too grandiose a term to use. The parking lot is small, with some of the other interests having dedicated parking spots… so parking can be an issue. The place is small, with a few small tables and perhaps seven bar stools at the counter. This is definitely not the place for parties larger than four; any larger and you’d have to be split up. I would give you directions to this not so easy to find place, but I’d prefer a parking spot and a table. We started with the cracked conch, which was cut into bite sized pieces before frying. It was very good, not too salty, accompanied by like a house made remoulade that was closer to Russian dressing. In addition, we had the buffalo shrimp(spicy, it also comes medium and mild), which a blue cheese dipping sauce with chunks of blue cheese… enjoyed it as well. Next up were the fried blue point oysters, which were my wife’s favorite. We added French fries to the mix to make the missus happy; they are frozen, not fresh cut, and I am admittedly a bit of a French fry snob… they were not bad for frozen, especially dipped into the blue cheese. We ever made it to the entrees, but sampled a wide variety other than fish. We will be back to try the rest of the menu. The only negative for me was the beer selection, Bud or Bud Light… but I said I was a bit of a snob… I prefer good craft beers, having made my own. Don’t sneer at me, I had a few Buds… fried seafood can be a bit salty I’d be remiss if I failed to mention that while many say this place is divey, it is more a Mom & Pop hole in the wall. The waitresses were great and the place was clean and bright… and my wife said the restroom was«fine». So, what else do you need to know? I’d recommend it, but be ready to wait… you saw the picture of the outside, and there were more waiting out of frame

Had my heart set on the hog snapper but they sold out. I settled on blackened grouper. I was a little disappointed because I always have grouper at home. The place is. packed as usual and it’s almost 9 pm. It was very good blackened and was also very fresh. I got a side of coleslaw with my sandwich. It was a good meal as it always is.

Been here twice now and there’s no room for improvement. Mahi blackened with garlic butter was amazing! Tender and fresh. Grilled combo was perfect! Cold beer and nice staff!

Sure enjoyed our meal tonight at the Fish Shack. My boys loved the fish and chips and fried shrimp and I loved the grilled shrimp and conch fritters. Friendly service, good food and a neighborhood gem. A bit of a wait, so go early…

This place is a hidden gem. You will be tempted to keep driving when you go through the parking lot, DON’T! It’s the definition of a dive, but the food is fresh and the service is speedy /friendly. Give it a try!

ITISWORTHTHEWAIT, I PROMISE!!! As a native Floridian, I think saying this place has the best seafood I’ve ever had means something. I’ve tried to come here multiple times and was scared off by the line of people waiting to be seated, but man that was a mistake. My boyfriend found out he knew the owner, who is such a sweet man, so we tried one more time to get in to say hi and support a business we thought thoroughly deserved it. We were able to walk right in and get a table this time. We were a few minutes before their dinner rush. It is a small restaurant with a few tables, but the food makes up for everything. Every. Single. Bite. Everything just tastes so fresh and cooked perfectly. We didn’t wait long for anything. We ordered conch fritters, buffalo shrimp, and I believe the mahi sandwich. For the price, we got way more than we paid for. *Queue boyfriend moaning«oh my god, this is sooooo good!”* The staff was super attentive and friendly. Half way though the meal the owner(who I believe also cooks) came over to say hi to my boyfriend, introduce himself to me and thank us sincerely for coming. Then again before we left, hugged us and said thank you. You sir, have made two loyal customers. Don’t be dumb like us and let the line scare you. They’re so worth it.(You could be even smarter and call in an order to be picked up so you could skip the line)

What a great place to eat. Hole in the wall off the highway, only five tables and a bar. But, the food is as good as any high class seafood restaurant I know of in Broward County. I had the blackened grouper sandwich and my girlfriend had the fried clam strips. The sandwich was phenomenal. Perfectly cooked. The clam strips were standard restaurant fare. Second time here. Many more to come.

Ducked in with the 6 Foot Blonde and it was a fine time, here’s why: * Any time with Laura Lee is a fine time! * I had a Wahoo Steak and it ROCKED! Blackened, with rice, $ 19.95. * We split the Cracked Conch $ 10.95. Good, but not like my Wahoo! * She had a blackened Grouper Sammy for $ 13.95 and LOVEDIT! * Love their cole slaw * Draft Beers for $ 2.50, Bud or Bud Light only. So the place is small, tight, aged, humble, and rustic and it is sat in an old and tired strip mall with limited parking and seating. But the service was excellent and my Wahoo was the BOMB! I can’t stand the dated and old-style wood bowls and plates, but that’s me. Check it out, Cabeza OUT!

I used to periodically frequent the fish shack about a year ago, then for whatever reason I just stopped returning. I have no recollection as to why I stopped returning. But today I had an irresistible desire for a Fish sandwich and the only place that popped in my mind was Fish Shack. Located in an off a main road in a run down plaza. The Fish Shacks interior is dimunitive, but they’ve managed to fit about 5 tables and one communal«L» shaped counter. The menu is loaded with lots of sea-goodies such as starters, sandwiches, burger & fries, raw bar, sides, platters and wings. I’ve only tried a few items, mahi-mahi sammi, grouper sammi, fries and the conch chowder. Up until today I enjoyed the food even though it’s somewhat overpriced for the ambiance and location. What happened? I got take out, a grouper sandwich with fries yet again. Problem was after I drove off and opened the container, the sandwich wasn’t put together. One side had the fish and the other side had the lettuce and tomato on a «kaiser roll». Worse the bread was soaking wet, I don’t know what kind of bread it was, but it definitely wasn’t a kaiser roll at all. The fries were fine, but the sandwich was almost inedible, I couldn’t get a grip because the bread was literally falling apart in my hands. it was almost like eating a melting ice-cream cone. The other thing that urks me about this place is they allude that they get fresh seafood daily from the sea. But their«political» like language on their flyers only states that their chef daily chooses seafood from their source warehouse. But that does not mean the seafood they are serving us was not previously frozen. Well at least I know why now I’m never going back.

Just what I was looking for on my Unilocal app. Local. Off the beaten path. Indigenous food. Casual. All walks. Four or five tables. A bar with maybe 8 stools. Small kitchen. Two servers. Great menu. Awesome food for what I had for my first time in. But or Bud Light. That’s it. Cracked conch basket, salad and raw clams with a cold one or two. Fresh, tasty, not terribly expensive and now on my list for return visit when in the area. These are the little gems on Triple D. Highly recommend.

This hidden gem is tucked away in a residential neighborhood. Be prepared to wait as there are only a handful of tables and small bar seating. Large, fresh caught portions! Super friendly staff! Try the buffalo shrimp! There’s always a fresh catch or two on special!(Today was hog fish and yellowfin!) We will be back!

Ordered take out from here the last day of our trip. Because the grilled scallops are the bomb, I ordered that dish with fries, and we also ordered the grilled shrimp with fries. I would drive out of my way to eat here, the food is just that good! The service is amazing as well! :) Consistency is key with a small business such as this one, and they have it!

This is an out-of-the way 20 seat restaurant tucked into a corner of a residential neighborhood. You have to know to come here — this is a destination, not a place you happen to drive past. The restaurant was packed when we arrived. We waited about 10 minutes for a table. The store’s windows have painted island themes blocking the inside view. It looks a bit sketchy but it’s an authentic island fish shack! The interior looked like a typical island place — pale blue walls, plain tables and chairs, a few nautical decorations on the walls and locals lining up for fresh fish. Our server wore a recovered coin from the Atocha on a necklace and sported a British accent. She and her coworkers never stopped moving between the kitchen and tables. Even so, they were friendly and engaging. We shared shrimp and scallop fritters — 2″ golden fried balls of diced shrimp and scallops with just enough cornstarch to hold them together. We all thought they were hot and delicious, especially with a spray of fresh lemon juice or dunked in tartar sauce. We shared cracked conch — pronounced ‘conk’! The firm, springy flesh was softened and dredged in breadcrumbs before being fried. They were served with a sauce(ketchup and mayo?) but I preferred it with fresh lime juice and hot sauce. Not many places serve conch so I enjoyed having food I only had in the Bahamas! And these were good. What we loved: We had a fried grouper sandwich, grilled grouper platter and fried hog fish platter. All the portions were generous. The grilled grouper was excellent — from the grill marks to the flavor, it was a hit. The fried grouper was firm, fresh and not greasy. Even so, we all preferred the grilled fish. When I ordered the hog fish the server asked how I wanted it and I said fried because I assumed it was a whole fish. This would leave the inside soft and the outside crispy. When it was served, I got a plate of fried fish filets! I’d have ordered it grilled if I knew! Even so, the hogfish snapper was sweet, and almost fluffy! It was not as firm as the grouper but it tasted just as fresh! We all took leftover fish home. We also took another order of shrimp and scallop fritters and a slice of key lime pie! What we didn’t love: We all thought the cole slaw had too much mayo. My salad with Caesar dressing was ok — the bottled dressing wasn’t the typical creamy type, the croutons were straight out of a package and the sprinkle of shaker cheese didn’t do much for the salad. But really, who comes to a fish place for salad? Hubby’s fries were average but tasty. I only had a forkful of the key lime pie — the flavor was good but it tasted almost powdery. Hubby liked it. I wanted to love it but I didn’t — so we stopped at the store on our way home and I got key lime pie ingredients! I never made the pie before but it was so simple — and tasty — that I’ll definitely make it again! In a way I should thank Fish Shack for making their key lime pie as they did — it prompted me to make my own! But when we want fresh fish again, I’m not trying my hand at cooking it. We’ll be back here — hubby even wants to try their burgers. The server was a doll, as were her co-workers. The place has a casual vibe. And the food is the real deal!

Wow!!! Small place in an odd location but that didn’t keep the place from being packed. We waited about 30 minutes to be seated at the counter. Started of with some medium buffalo shrimp that were probably the best I’ve ever had. Cracked conch was definitely the best I’ve had :) For the meal I went with the Garlic butter mahi mahi, fries and a side salad. It was loaded with butter, probably not the best choice for me but I got what I asked for. Still very good. The girlfriend went with breaded medium wings that were also delicious. Nice and crispy on the outside but super juicy and tender on the inside. I’ll certainly be recommending this place to some friends.
