I dont understand some of the negative reviews. The food is very good + you get a generous portion. Waffle fries are amazing ! If you like fish + chips, they are very good as well. The owner is a super nice guy thats very personable, as is Mary kay very friendly + gives great service. Some of the bad reviews to me sound like they have a personal bone to pick, I say that because they went overboard on nit-picking. I don’t know if personally I would bring small children there, only because of the bar environment but thats just me. Great place, especially when the weathers nice for outdoor dining.

We think this place is great! The food is delicious, the service is awesome and always a great beer. But really, the food makes it worth going back for!

Wanted fish and chips but they only offer it on Fridays. So I decided to get the French dip, it was pretty good! Good waffle fries and Cole slaw too! I would go back for sure. The trivia guy is funny.

What can I say… MaryKay who runs the place is fabulous. The good is very good and Billy the owner is a gem. Great place for a good meal

This bar is not on scale with the rest of Plymouth. The menu is poorly made bar food and in the case of the club sandwich, not even made like a club sandwich.

We walked into The Penn about an hour ago. We were seated immediately, but after waiting half an hour without being served we decided to leave. It felt as though we were being ignored. Very disappointing as we are new to the area and we still haven’t found our spot yet. Needless to say, we won’t be coming back to The Penn.

Gotta say I’m disappointed. Something about the atmosphere leaves you wanting. Food is actually pretty good. Went a few times and even tried Karioke… not very entertaining.

Cool place to grab a drink or two with friends. Fun atmosphere, but not all upscale like a lot of the other stuff in Plymouth. I will definitely be going back.

Went right in and sat down on Sunday night which was great. The experience that followed? Not so much. Ordered drinks which were water, pop, and 2 beers and waited forever to get them. After everything came out except one of the beers(which didn’t make sense because both were the same order) the waitress apologized that the keg was being changed. It shouldn’t take 15 mins to change a keg. We waited an absurd amount of time for our food which included burgers, fish tacos, and the specials for the night. This is a bar with a small kitchen but, in my opinion, this is easy stuff. The food was ok, staff seemed a little annoyed not necessarily at the customers but at the kitchen and bar. I would probably recommend this place to come for a beer to watch the game since the TVs are a-plenty but otherwise it wasn’t anything to write home about.

I’ll give it 4 stars, Wednesday is ½ off pizza day so lunch was a bargain. Pizza was good, just a little greasy. The staff was friendly, outdoor seating is cool, downtown Plymouth is rocking. I would say this is a good place to watch a game, meet friends for a drink or just throw one back.

The food is way better than most bars. Tuesday night karaōke with Jeff is great! Always a fun crowd and a great place to meet new friends. Wait staff is friendly too!

Pros: Location. I do love downtown Plymouth Great place to watch a game(lots o’ TVs) Staff. Them hostesses/waitresses/bartenders are a hoot Cons: The bathroom is absolutely unacceptably disgusting They really pack the place tight, elbow to elbow Can get a little pricey, especially on drinks Middle of the road: Food selection, pricing, taste.

Great location, but not taking advantage of it. Food is rough and services is poor. If you can get any of the staff to even crack a smile. owners included, its a miracle. Went there for about 3 months… several times a week, I was hoping for a nice spot close to home… no dice. They seem to think being a snob is a great way to attract new customers. .ummm nope. Huge potential there just not being realized. Lots of options in Plymouth these days… this place is no longer one of them.

This place is a DUMP. I took my sister to Plymouth when she was visiting from out of town recently. I wanted to show her how cute and fun Plymouth is. We wandered up and down the streets, bought treats for her dog at the cute dog shop, and then wanted to pick somewhere for lunch. We thought Penn Grill looked like a nice enough place on the outside for a few salads or a wrap. We wanted to sit inside because it was a hot day, so we headed in to the darkness of the restaurant. There are only tall tables(not conducive for a stroller) and the stools were so squeaky. The table was sticky. The service was extremely slow(kitchen and waitress). The bathroom was disgusting. There were a ton of flies in the bathroom which is right next to the kitchen. EW. Her baby was waking up and we wanted to eat quickly, or we would have left. Our salads were mediocre. It was a very forgettable place, and I will not give it a second chance. I can see how it might be cool for drinks only… just not a spot for lunch.

It is a bar. Stick with the drinks. If you must eat, the pizza rolls are OK. The last time I was here I had a Turkey Ruben that was completely forgettable. If you are looking for a quick lunch or dinner, there are better choices in downtown Plymouth. Looking to have some drinks and watch some sports on TV — this place is fine.

I dunno what happened to this place, but it went from super-cool, hidden-gem of a bar to a total douche-bag trap.

The Penn is always fun as long as your drinking. It’s not a quiet place and I wouldn’t show up here simply to eat and run with kids in tow but it’s a perfect spot to blow off some steam and get a little rowdy. It’s known for great food and small restrooms but is most always a good time. A very local joint that’s filled with regulars, it offers umbrella patio seating, an array of patrons of all ages and pretty solid service unless you’re there when it’s über packed, then you’ll roll the dice on wait times. The karaōke on Tuesdays is pretty fierce and would give Dino’s in Ferndale some stiff competition, but mostly this place is just a fun time. It’s close quarters so be ready to cram in on the small high-top tables unless you’re sitting outside where you’ll get a little more room to stretch out.

What a beautiful weekend to visit the Green Street Fair and stroll down the streets of Downtown Plymouth!!! Unfortunately, my wife & I made a foolish decision to eat at this establishment. Walking in, it felt like the guys were looking at my wife like she was on the menu, and although not packed(6pm on a Sunday night), it was loud and messy… Chairs were in isles, the acoustics made it sound like there were 1,000 people there when all reality, there was about 20. Well, we decided to stay anyway… We ordered the soft pretzel appetizer that came with a cheese dip, and although hot, were pretty mediocre at best. Strike #1… My wife ordered the Penn burger and fries & I ordered there signature Pulled Pork sandwich with their Penn Chipotle Coleslaw which they bragged about in there menu. It seemed like forever went by before we got our meal, and for being only 10% full, I was quite shocked. During the wait, Strike #2 appeared in the form of a 50 yo + drunk, loud & obnoxious blonde with fluoresent white teeth who stopped to talk to a table with 2 late 40’s male perverts, in which we found out she worked at Legg’s, Bogart’s & Henry the 8th’s in the past and still loves wearing her thong panties. In the words of Will Smith, «Now that’s classy and sexy!!» NOT!!! ;) Well, after what seemed like forever, we finally received out food. My wife really like her burger, but I thought the pulled pork sandwich pretty much stunk. Their Chipolte Coleslaw, although I love spicy things, tasted pretty much like garbage. There was really not coleslaw comparison, except for the cabbage, and it was just mixed with some type of chipolte sauce. Yuck, for the first time, as being a coleslaw connoisseur, I didn’t finish it, not even ¼. The pulled pork was luke warm and ¼ of my sandwich was a hunk that hadn’t even been pulled apart. The BBQ sauce was pretty weak also, therefore, Strike #3!!! The bill would of been strike #4, but they already struck out in my book… I could of swore the menu said the sandwiches came with fries, but we got billed for both orders. They were supposed to be waffle seasoned fries, but when dropping off our orders, the waitress said they ran out of them! :( Needless to say, $ 40 dollars down the drain. For that, I should of at least got a lap dance from that 50yo! LOL

Outdoor seating is great at the Penn — but if it’s too busy, they still have a large, large wall of windows that let the outdoors in. Now that there’s no smoking allowed in Michigan it’s smelling pretty fresh in here. As others have complained: the bathroom is way too small, and there is no wi-fi. To the plus side there are at least 4 big screens on opposite walls. Then there is a big screen at the top of the window wall from the inside and another one facing outward at the patio people. Nice! They also have Keno if you need to win some money to tip your attractive waitresses. It is a sports bar and a little run down when you’re there during times of intense sunshine to see the dull walls and floors. This is about as much of a dive bar as you can get in downtown Plymouth(which is not really a dive at all compared to other areas around the D). It has character, and their food is good. Check it out and enjoy!

The Penn Grill is generally a place that I wouldn’t like. It’s a sports bar, they usually have generic food, are noisy and smoky. I was pleasantly surprised. The smoke is gone, but the noise and sports are still there. What a nice place this is! It was crowded, but there are generally seats to be found. Sure the bathrooms are small, but I don’t come to restaurants/bars to check out the bathrooms.(I leave that job to my kids!) Their food is great! We started our meal with a huge pile of onion rings that were some of the best we had ever tasted, although I did notice a bit of a fishy crossover in the taste. I had the fish and chips and thoroughly enjoyed my meal. The fries were lightly seasoned and done to perfection, the fish was plentiful, hot and tasty. My wife ordered a calzone with ham, cheese, lettuce, & tomato which was wonderful as well. And beer… BIG beers for little prices. My kind of place. We constantly had friendly waitstaff stopping by our table to see if we needed anything else. The service was great! So, in the end, the Penn Grill changed my mind. I think I can learn to coexist with the sports bar crowd… as long as it’s at this place.
