Fabulous winery. I am usually a white zin lover but their moscato and barbera are excellent. A nice relaxing day!

We probably would’ve missed this winery if it wasn’t for the fact that we were in the area early and this was the only winery open at the time. Lovely spacious tasting room. We were helped immediately and got some great suggestions on wines. Hubs had the red flight while I had the sweet one. I really liked their moscato. It was buttery and not overly sweet. Their barbera was very good too. Try this place! There’s something for everyone.

Used to love Terra d ‘Oro and was a wine club member but I tried to come for my birthday and they were not able to fit me in. I called 2 weeks in advanced and said I don’t need a tasting we will just buy 5 bottles outside and they said no. It would be to much stress on their employees. Well you just got on less customer and we would have spent a lot of money. Will never go back again or buy there wine again.

We decided to spend our actual 30th anniversary(midweek) day meandering the area. We have been in the area plenty of times but only had time for 2 – 3 wineries. A man in the Sutter Creek visitor’s center, who said he was also on the Amador Vintnor’s Association, recommended this winery that we recall as Montevina. It was clean, spacious, wine delicious… the woman serving the wine was pleasant but not overly so. It was a lovely but not outstanding visit. I would go back again.

My boyfriend and I were up in Amador County for the first time wine tasting to celebrate our anniversary. Of the 8 wineries we were able to visit, this one might have been our favorite. The man helping us with our tasting, whose name escapes me, was super friendly and welcoming. Because of our ages, 23 and 21, I felt we were a little discriminated against at some of the wineries we visit, but there was none of that here. A+ for the wines, we preferred the Zina and THEZINPORT, and A++ for the service. Not to mention we were able to sign up for their email list and were given 20% off our purchase. We will definitely be recommending and returning.

I have not been to this winery, because they would not allow my group and I to visit them based on our transportation. I called them and let them know I was very interested in tasting their wines with a group of 14. I even rearranged my schedule so we could come work it out. The lady one the phone sounded very nice and excited to see us. That was until I told her which bus company I was taking and she quickly said«No! No no, you can’t come here. They are banned from our property.» I have no idea what the back story is or why this particular bus company is not allowed at their winery, but I find it a little ridiculous to refuse service to a group of people completely unrelated this to company. I pleaded with her that we are all very well behaved and it would be our first stop and that this company has nothing to do with us, but she said no. It’s very disappointing to be turned away when you, yourself, have done nothing wrong. Looks like they will be selling one less case of wine this weekend.

Lovely place that is dog friendly. Went here specifically because it was one of the only places that was listed as dog friendly and couldn’t have been more happy. The large patio are was comfortable even on the warm day. Free tastings inside and reasonable prices. We grabbed a bottle, had snacks and chatted for a few hours. I’ll return. They also have corn hole if you’re into that sort of thing.

Free tastings, and we tasted nearly 13 wines. Rhys was our pourer, and he was fantastic. He was polite, entertaining, had a great sense of humor, was informative, and so on. Why have we never been here before??! This winery is BEAUTIFUL. Not only are the grounds impeccably kept, there’s ample outdoor seating, a large tasting room, and snacks to purchase with your wine. We have lost interest with other wineries in the area that have gotten a bit arrogant and have started to charge, yet don’t offer any ambiance, personality, pretty grounds, etc. This place has it all.

Totally agree with the comments on the Barbara and Zins. In fact I opened a 2004TDO Barbara a few weeks ago and it was incredible. The aglianico is pretty excellent, too. A not of clarification on one of the reviews below. I believe«montevina» has become more of a brand for Trinchero Family Estates and some(or most) of these wines may not be produced at this winery. The TDO wines are made here though.

How could this gorgeous setting and delicious wines be anything but 5 stars. Winemaker Chris Leamy is a charming host! We arrived on a gorgeous February morning and enjoyed a tour and barrel tasting. Yummy TDO wines! And the perfect location for the 2015 Barbera Festival. You don’t want to miss out. TDO will certainly be wonderful hosts — no matter what the occasion.

I love«discovering» a great winery I hadn’t tried before, especially in Amador. Not that Terra d’Oro is a new winery; we’ve just always stopped at Cooper or Karmere up Shenendoah School Rd. Soooo glad our wine tasting buddies for the day suggested we go there. Hey, we hadn’t been there before either, so why the heck not?! Plenty of parking, lovely grounds, big tasting room with food and swag options galore. Nice first impression of the place. Our hostess/pourer was Linda; super lady! She explained how the place used to be Montevina, which technically they kinda are for the loyalists who refuse to convert to the new Terra d’Oro name/brand; they like what they like and don’t need any«upgrading.» To illustrate Montevina wines vs. Terra d’Oro wines, the FREE tasting menu is set up so you can try both and see which one you like better. Linda explained it’s all about what you like; one is not necessarily better than the other, and just because one costs more than the other(Terra d’Oro is more the«reserve» wines and a couple bucks more) doesn’t mean you’ll like it more. This was illustrated perfectly during the tastings; in several instances, especially when it came to their Zin, the Montevina won out over the Terra d’Oro(which is why we ended up buying a bottle of the Montevina Zin). Oh, and the prices are soooo reasonable! I mean, we had just finished tasting at another winery where their wines are well-known and delicious but START in the high $ 20 range. Here, the Montevina list starts at $ 6.50 for the White Zin(don’t knock it! We loved it and each bought a bottle!) up to $ 12 for their amazing Zin(which we also bought) and the Terra d’Oro list starts at $ 12 up to $ 18. A real lesson in just because it costs less doesn’t mean it’s not as good” as the more expensive stuff you can find in Amador or anywhere else. Our friends loved this winery so much, they joined the wine club. We look forward to coming back to Montevina/Terra d’Oro for the pick-up parties every three months with our friends :)

My wife and I and my in-laws all went here for the first time on a Monday afternoon. The tasting room is located around the side of the big production building to the left. The grounds around the area are expansive and pretty, with lots of trees and vines going deeper into the back. Inside, the tasting area has two bars of decent size, but today only one was in operation with one server behind it. She was very knowledgeable, with great stories that she had acquired from her Masters degree in Roman history. All tastings were complimentary, and the wines were very good while still very affordable. There was a good amount of variety, as well. My in-laws ended up joining the wine club and my wife and I took home 6 bottles including the amazing Zinfandel, Zinfandel port, Aglianico, Viognier, and others. This is a great value spot for wine tasting with excellent wines, great service, and affordability. We look forward to coming back during our next visit.

Very friendly staff. I did a tasting here last weekend. I like sweeter wines, and their Moscato is one of the best I’ve ever had! I had to buy some, and I’ll be keeping and eye out for it at BevMo.

I love this place! Beautiful picnic ground, good wines and friendly knowledgeable staff. I am glad I picked Terra D’Oro Winery as one of the two wineries to go. My girlfriends and I only had 2 hours in Amador therefore i wanted to make our trip worth while, and it sure was. Thank to our wine hostess/specialist, Kathy. She was amazing and funny. We had so much fun. My fav was the sangiovese with the chauno chocolate. Yummy! Also the Moscato, it wasn’t too sweet and i love the crisp apple flavor… I can never leave a winery without a delicious bottle of Moscato. We each purchased a few bottles and Kathy gave us 20% off. I will def come back and highly rec to friends and family. Oh did I forget to mention, tasting is free.

I love this place, good wine, great service and friendly and knowledgeable employees! They have wines priced for everyone and some food and kitchen items that are fun to browse. Beautiful grounds for a picnic! Don’t miss this stop in Amador!

Great picnic yesterday, and the winery helped make it happen when I had forgotten some key elements. I arrived with the food, but had forgotten the plates, napkins, forks and knives. This was mentioned in front of the nice folks pouring our wine, and they simply solved our problem at no cost. We always buy a bottle of wine and enjoy their covered patio, and today the went to a new level of customer service. We are also club members, and so we have been enjoying their wine for some time now. Another nice memory was created at Terra D’Oro.

My friend really wanted to go this winery so we decided to make this our next stop. We walked in about 45 minutes before they closed and it was quite busy. Despite being really busy the staff did a great job of making sure everyone was well taken care of. They have two lines of wine the Montevina and the Terra d’ Oro. I preferred the Montevina line as the wines were lighter and I really liked the Barvera which I purchased. The Terra d’ Oro line of wines are much fuller and I didn’t prefer it. If you like sweet wines then I recommend the moscato. They have a patio in the back so its great for picnics.

Bulk producing commerical supermarket wines owned by a corporation from Napa. All the things that are not Amador County rolled into one location. They mass produce so much stuff they have two complete lines of wine — Montevina and Terra d’Oro labels — both pretty much suck. They ruined Aglianico grapes in their varietal interpretation of it. Those are hard grapes to grow and normally there aren’t many of them, but somehow they found enough to ruin. The barbera and sangiovese were equally rape of Mother Earth. After sampling quite a few wines, we were floored by the fresh, clean fruity taste of the 2010 Moscato. At $ 16 we felt we could give it away as a gift to someone at Xmas who doesn’t drink wine and they might like it.

I thought the wine was just fine and the service was attentive and friendly. I would return again and make someone else drive so I could taste more. The vineyards are beautiful and a great spot for some classic winery shots. There are lots of picnic tables and this would be a good spot to stop for lunch along your wine tasting route.
