This place is amazing. Everyone here is super friendly, and will make the drink exactly the way you like it(no matter how complicated). They also use frozen coffee ice cubes for their iced coffees, which is amazing. There’s a great selection of games, and it’s a great place to hang out. Very kid friendly as well.

The first time that I came in here, I only stayed 30 seconds because my kids promptly changed their minds from«we would like smoothies» to «we would like donuts» The woman at the counter was so friendly that it wasn’t even awkward. She even told us what her favorite donut was, over at the shop a few doors down. So today, we came back. The young man working here was really nice, cared about my beverage choice, and it was not a rushed Starbucks everybody is in a hurry go go GO! It was a nice relaxed conversation. Quite a few beverage options, yippee! AND they have my favorite syrup(Valencia orange). If you don’t mind splurging on calories, the iced orange mocha is just exquisite! Especially on a hot day. He asked my name, not for the cup… He was shaking my hand and introducing himself. Very welcoming. As previously stated, my drink was FABULOUS! I would ask for more ice next time, because it was still close to room temperature– not a big deal though. My kids bought baked goods, and a smoothie. They said they were just okay, not great. I will try a sandwich or a bagel or something next time.(I’m willing to do this for the good of the people ;) They have a few video games– and I tried not to freak out because Centipede is my all time favorite game! I used to kick ass in 1987! Sorry– back to my review– They also have board games, a pinball machine, and some books. While we were there, a few regulars wandered in everybody was friendly, there were good vibes everywhere. My one year old got fussy and the guy came out from the counter and offered her a little dancing dude to make her smile(I think it’s name is groot or grute or whatever, I took a picture) We hung out from 2:15 to 4:15 just playing games and sipping on coffee. I will definitely come back, and I would recommend this place to my mom and dad friends as well. Because I pride myself on giving honest reviews, i will include the thing that I didn’t like about this spot. It needs some upgrading, a little TLC. I really hope this place becomes a success, and that they invest in new floors/tables/trash cans. We spent about 20.00 on snacks and drinks and another 15.00 on games, so we did our part. I don’t think I was given a receipt though… that seems a little odd. We stayed for two hours, that’s a first for a coffee shop stop :) The staff members are warm and friendly. Not too shabby. We had fun. We will be back. Thanks for the great coffee.

This place has great beans by the pound. I can’t wait to get there one day when I have time to eat way at some video games…

Great library of board games to play! They have the classics that everyone knows and then the unique modern style board games too, and party games like Cards Against Humanity. Coffee tasted great. Not the best location for the goal of the business in my opinion but I’ll be back for sure.

Characterz Café is one of not the best coffee house around. The staff is amazing and the owners are very knowledgable about all things coffee! They also have a few sweet munchables, not including a build your own breakfast sandwich option! For the comic book or gaming fanatic they have special nights for movies and table top games, also you can show up anytime, bring some friends and play one of the many games they have available in the shop! I would recommend Characterz to the anyone who was looking forward to a great cup of coffee and a good time!

I stumbled across Characterz café about a week ago and have since made a bunch of new friends and developed a love affair with their iced coffee. The coffee is ridiculously good they even go so far as to make coffee ice cubes so it doesn’t dilute as the ice melts. The end result was I was able spend an entire afternoon sipping my delicious coffee while my daughter beat me in a dozen games of Candyland. They have so many great games, events and group games that it is hard to imagine we won’t be popping in multiple times a week. The owners do a great job of making people feel welcome and are so attentive and low key that it is hard not to feel like you are visiting with friends not a coffeehouse.

Got coffee here a few months back trying to find a pleasanton equivalent of my favorite in the world panama bay. Me and my girlfriend were greeted by the owner who while very passionate, liked to talk a lot. I humored her with conversation but after alluding to how i just wanted coffee 2 – 3 times i had to interrupt her and ask if i could just get a drink. The syrup flavor list was pretty lengthy, and she had a lot of cool combinations in mind, but i decided to get an unflavored standard late. I’ve been a well trained barista for just over a year and i could tell just by listening to her steam the milk she had no idea what she was doing. The milk was scalded, the espresso was bitter, the drink was way too foamy and not nearly blended enough. I appreciate what she’s trying to do but I don’t think i’ll ever come back again

I happened to be off my normal path on this glorious afternoon and strolled by this place and was intrigued by the interesting decorations. I walked in and was immediately thrilled that I did! Everything about this place is top rate. I never post reviews on here but simply had to take the time for this place. It is clean, fun, comfortable and the coffee cake that I grabbed to go tasted like my grandmothers baking. Yum! I only wish I had more time to play all the cool arcade games! I will be back for sure. It is funny how every day is different and today took me here and that was special. Awesome job!

Really, when I think of this place, I think«meh». But I don’t think it’s enough to give it only 2 stars. There are plenty of positives, though. Don’t get me wrong. The staff guy working the counter was really nice. There are plenty of quality boardgames for anyone to play. Yes, there’s a pinball machine, and a tabletop arcade machine, plus guitar hero and Centipede. My girlfriend said her decaf mocha was fine, my americano was OK. One person compared it to being in your friend’s house having coffee… and that pretty much sums it up. There’s not a lot of rhyme or reason to what they have going in there. There doesn’t seem to be a singular«character» to this place. It really feels like some people took over the rent of a now-defunct Italian place(based on the odd paint on the walls), and fulfilled their dream of making coffee with a place to store their boardgames and pinball machine. Also, it’s called Coffee Co. on the sign outside, so neither name you see the review under is on the store-front. We decided to go into the Coffee Co on a gamble because we weren’t really in the mood to go hunt down Characterz… I guess we got lucky??? This really just lends itself to the«kinda cheap» feel. My girlfriend made a comment that Marcus Lemonis, of «The Profit», or Jon Taffer, of «Bar Rescue», would have had a fit with this place. If I’m in the area again, I’d stop by. But I don’t know I’d go far out of my way to get there. I don’t know, maybe it needs two stars…

This place gets way more awesome every time I go. The coffee is great, the service and employees are fantastic, and the environment is amazing. You can hang out and play a few arcade games, board games or D&D, or read a book. I’d rather drive the 10 minutes to get here than go to one of the three Starbucks right around the corner from my house.

Despite the very odd and adolescent décor the coffee here is actually pretty good. I like that they have coffee ice cubes. I wish they offered organic milk and raw sugar.

I have been hanging-out in cafes since my days in Berkeley in the early 80’s & have always been a complete nerd, and I’ve never found a place where those two worlds come together so perfectly. «CHARECTERZCAFE» is like sitting down in your good friends living room, and your friend roasts their own coffee, serves you delicious fresh baked goods OHAND has walls full of boards games, cards games, RPG, and are delighted to teach people how to play it all. COFFEE + GAMING + GREATCONVERSATION = MYIDEAOFHEAVEN

I love this place… getting back to the«mom&pop» shop feel. Family owned and run. Not the huge franchise money gouging conglomerate! Can’t wait for the final personal touches that are coming… awesome coffee … Great baked goods… friendly faces… what more can you ask for in business…

This place is awesome! They serve the best coffee and pastries! It even has coffee ice so your coffee doesn’t get water down. My favorite is raspberry mocha or butterscotch latte with caramel! And they have Italian sodas with a lot of flavors. I love the raspberry flavor, but I also like mixing it up with raspberry and cherry. My friend had a watermelon kiwi flavor and he loved it! The staff are all really nice and fun to talk to, especially Crystal. They are always happy to make whatever weird drink concoction I come up with. Try the Cherry Cheese Danish or Breakfast Sandwiches if you’re looking for a bite to eat. Oh, and the scones are delicious! They’re so good! I come here a few times a week because I just can’t get enough!

Small town vibe coffee shop. The owner has an amazing personality and will brighten your day before she’s served you your first cup. She definitely will be capable of continuing the level of service that Coffee Co.(the business that previously occupied this space) is known and loved for. They will be keeping the well established menu items as well as introducing some new items. Exciting things in store for this little neighborhood coffee shop. Plans to add programs for table top gaming tournaments and contests, as well as comics and graphic novels are in the near future.
