Outstanding breakfast, quality food, effective, polite, and quick service, and cleanest restaurant bathroom I have ever visited.

Since the breakfast offered at our hotel was awful, we decided to check out a local spot to get some grub before the long drive home. Thanks to Unilocalers, we found The Hungry Bear which was great! When we got there, it almost felt like we walked into someone’s home. Luckily we got seated immediately and ordered our food. I got the waffle with fruit and a side order of sausage links, which were so incredibly delicious. For $ 1.25 more we paid for real maple syrup which was also delicious. My husband got chocolate chip pancakes with eggs and bacon, which he thoroughly enjoyed. The pancakes are huge, so if you feel like you could go for less, just get the single pancake off their menu. We also ordered biscuits with sausage gravy which was DELICIOUS! The worst part of our meal was the coffee, it was a little weak for our tastes. But other than that– this place was great for a hearty country breakfast. Service was kind, prices were great — check it out if you’re in town!

Food is excellent. Get the eggs benedict special on the weekend. Only complaint is that it’s really noisy in here. Food makes up for it though. Home fries are delicious as well. Second time here. Anytime we are in town, we will come here for breakfast. Fast service. Just crowded. It’s def a locals spot.

Only heard of this place based on Unilocal reviews. I’m happy that I came here as it’s going to be my breakfast stop each time I visit Plattsburgh. The place is not hard to find, but, it is located in an industrial-like area, about 3 – 4 mins from the«main shopping» area i.e. Kmart, Price Chopper… We came here on a Saturday morning around 10:15am, we were 2 people, and as soon as we walked in, another client before us just said to find a seat anywhere that’s available — you can seat yourselves. The place has a ski lodge kind of look, like a cabin with a bear theme. Waitress acknowledged us right away, was very quick with our coffee and apple juice. I ordered Combo 6, corned beef hash, as a half order(means 1 egg and 1 toast each instead of 2), and my boyfriend ordered Combo 4, bacon eggs potatoes, as a whole order. The food arrived a bit longer than I thought it would — but tolerable, as it was busy with every table and counter seat taken. I think it happened to be the day following a basketball tournament. Coffee was decent, hash brown very good; not too salty, eggs decently scrambled. My boyfriend thought that the cubed potatoes were a bit burnt and salty for his liking. Waitresses are courteous, and attentive to coffee and water re-fills. Overall, I would most definitely come back. I recommend it. It’s family friendly. Just keep in mind that the noise level or the fact that you might be sharing a table with other people might be a bit overstimulating but I think you will also enjoy your visit.

Pretty standard diner food. Breakfast, burgers, sandwiches, etc. Service was incredibly slow, so I would not recommend coming here if you’re in a rush.

Delicious freshly made wraps and sandwiches, loved the tuna! Sweet potato and regular fries were outrageously good! Very friendly and attentive staff. Yummy strawberry rhubarb pie. Very inexpensive. Wish we had place like this in LA!

The Unilocal community did not let us down with this place. Passing through saw the good reviews and had breakfast. Good coffee not weak or mild. Able to order half portions as the regular are generous. The onions could have been mixed into the home fries better not just placed on top. Good crisp bacon generous ham and friendly wait staff. Good choice

OK, so I’m a big guy who likes Philly cheese steak sandwiches, who doesn’t? I find that many restaurants will use the thin sandwich steaks, not too exciting, right? Not here, regular thin sliced steak, sautéed onions and peppers crammed into a half sub roll! Awesome. Enough filling to fill another half. I had onion rings on the side, battered and not greasy. I was quite pleased. My mother had a Belgium waffle smothered with strawberries! She was very happy, it’s her favorite. It was made fresh, it was piled with fresh strawberries and whipped cream. The place was quite busy, very clean and organized. I never had to ask for the waitress and she was always vigilant to check in. Food — great food, large portions Prices — very good, inexpensive Staff — very good Ambiance — nice and clean, maybe a little too much«Adirondack & bear» motifs for me but I can deal with it.

Really happy we found this place. Warm and inviting place to shake off the cold. The food was really good, filling, served hot and fast. It was exactly what we were looking for. Local patronage was fun and we are looking forward to the perch fry(Fridays) this afternoon.

I visited Hungry Bear during lunch on a cold winter day. The place was full of locals enjoying hearty meals. Breakfast is served all day. They have a huge offering of pies. My companion greatly enjoyed her chicken and gravy with real mashed potatoes. I had a very large blueberry pancake with real maple syrup. I was too full to try the pie so I will have to return soon.

I’m in the area with work because of an ice storm. The entire work crew(maybe 50 people) needed breakfast at 6am. We called to see if they were open, nope not till 7 am on Sunday, but come on over we will open for you! We headed over and filled the parking lot with work trucks. The cook opened up and started to take our orders until the waitress arrived. Just the two of them took care of everything. Very organized and the rush of dinners didn’t faze them. Great job and everyone left with a smile and a full tummy!

Excellent home style food, friendly staff, and nice interior space. This is a top notch breakfast spot(I have not been for lunch yet). Definitely will go back next time in town. I wish this place was open when I was a college student in Plattsburgh.

Local hangout. Very clean and pretty new. It is log cabin style building. Home made muffins, pies, the Hungry bear breakfast is huge. Way off of the main strip but what a find. Almost everyone that came in knew people eating there. The locals at the snack bar even served their own coffee.

It does get crowded at times but the breakfast is worth it. Though I’ve never really had to wait long for a seat when I’ve gone.

We had breakfast at the Hungry Bear. It was quite good — nicely prepared omelet, good potatoes, decent bacon and coffee. I ordered the veggie omelet and said yes to the suggestion of cheese; big mistake — the cheese was like Velveeta. It did not taste good and contaminated most of the omelet. New York makes some excellent Cheddar cheese, and the Hungry Bear would do itself a favor by hunting some up.
