Many problems, many good points. After we arrived we were shown to our table where a menu was placed in front of each of us. Mine was upside down. Ordered drinks and while waiting a different waiter brought a plate with small muffins and butter. We had no silverware. Drinks can. Wine glass may have been sitting on bar because it was sticky on bottom and stuck to the table cover. We had to «do the dishes». Ordered pork belly. Awesome. My wife ordered catfish and asked if one of the sides had pepper. Waitress wasn’t sure so she checked. Found there was pepper would you like to sub one of the sides. Are the collard greens spicy? Not at all. We’ll have that. Collard greens are spicy. I had the fried chicken. Frankly I think they were in the frier about a minute too long. There was a slightly burnt flavor. Not horrible but just a little off. Finished with the banana bread pudding. Soggy. Ice cream was great. We’ll probably try it again. I can chalk up the miscues to opening jitters although there were more than I would have anticipated. And for heavens sake, fix the faucet on the sink in the men’s room.

We decided to try this place out but were a little dumb founded by some of the things that happened. It’s been a week since they opened and we were greeted by two waiters who seemed to have been covering for the hostess which was fine we got seated and waited a good while to be waited on. The waitress was training another one which was ok they brought bread but no plates for the bread between the three of us. We ordered the deviled eggs which I liked they were good but that’s when we were asked if we wanted plates. Then our food came out pretty quick the chicken seemed to be a little more breading than chicken but still delicious the catfish on the other hand was soggy and just needed that little bit of crisp to take it that extra mile. A few more options on the desert menu other than cake would of been nice. Will try again maybe had just off night but they are only open for 5 hours a day which doesn’t leave much practice for the kitchen or waiters

Food was amazing and the atmosphere was relaxing definitely coming back. Crab cakes and shrimp and grits are to die for

Great ambiance, beautiful restaurant. Great flavors with the grits and cabbage. Everything else was so-so or terrible. Our party would rather have stayed home on a Saturday night. Staff was not coordinated and were too quick to through each other under the bus when there was a problem. «The bar tender threw your ticket in the trash and that’s why you didn’t receive your drink», «she keeps telling me to give this to the wrong person», «I wasn’t trained well», «I noticed they were preparing small portions in the kitchen», «Sorry for the poor service, but your waiter walked out and quit and I had no idea», «the things I’m seeing going on tonight are ridiculous»(stated by a staff member in reference to other staff). Pork was under cooked, grits were grainy and chewy, succotash was not good, mashed potatoes were dry and barely flavored and Julia’s Berry Mint Julip drink was served with no mint and no berries. Marinated Jumbo Texas shrimp were small and staff member had the nerve to make excuses about the cost of shrimp, grits almost non-existent and the broccoli was used as a garnish so I don’t know why broccoli was even highlighted for this menu item. Fried Chicken was dark, dry and burnt looking, dish needs to be rethought by adding some greens or something moist. Server forgot to process one order and one order was processed and never served. Chicken wing appetizer was barely cooked and gummy, when we tried to re-order the chicken wings we were told they had run out of chicken(at 7:45 pm, really??!). Some dishes were child sized. Meals were brought out randomly over a 20 minute period for a party of 10 that all ordered at the same time. Items were on the tickets that should not have been or that we were told had been taken off. Maybe it was just a rough Saturday night for your opening week. However, awful my experience was I still believe there is potential with the restaurant. I just won’t be the one to give it a second chance. Better luck with week two Julia Pearl.

This place is a disappointment. To begin with we were having a dinner reservation and when we got there they said they gave away our table for other people. like really!!! so we had to wait in a chaos! No organisation nothing! then we had to wait for one hour to get our food: the chicken was dry, cold dark dark brown and without sauce!! the pork was under-cooked and when they replace it they gave back the same piece, they didn’t replace it. and the best part is that we were there for a birthday and the waiter said they have no special thing for a birthday, like really?!! we paid like 300 $ so you can not give a piece of cake for the birthday girl? so cheap… and the best thing is that the waiter was so lost and confused. maybe they need more training, who knows. overall it was a very bad experience, they ruined our dinner and we paid top money expecting to have top food. but no! they disgrace the southern cuisine. Just do not go there, it will be a waste of your time and of your money. and Julia pearl cuisine, you need to get a food consultant before opening i think…

I called Julia Pearl Southern Cuisine tonight(Saturday 1÷30÷16) at 5:22 pm to see if they were open and if they were crowded. They said it «wasn’t busy and to come on down.» We arrived at 5:45 pm since we live about 20 minutes away. When we got there, they asked if we had a reservation. We said we didn’t nor did the person I talked to on the phone indicate I needed one. The restaurant at 5:45 pm was half empty. They went to check if they could work us in and came back and said it would be a 45 minute wait. I was outraged at the lack of customer service. They wanted me to wait 45 minutes while half the tables were unoccupied! My wife and I left. We will NEVER return! This restaurant that allegedly prides itself on Southern cuisine certainly does not understand anything about Southern hospitality or customer service! This is not a very auspicious start for a new restaurant. There are so many other restaurants in Plano, why bother taking a chance with one that goes out of its way to turn away potential customers? Go figure?

Terrible service. We left almost 15 minutes AFTER our drink order was taken by a bartender who was nice enough to introduce himself, but immediately followed with«I will not be the one taking care of you». This was of course after being sat by the very confused hostess staff. Needless to say our drinks never came, nor did the waiter that was supposed to be helping us and after making eye contact more than once with an apparent floor manager more than once as he schmoozed the tables around us and that elusive bartender that took our drink order we figured this place was not worth the prices on the menu and we left. Very sad because the Collin Creek area of Plano really needs new life, but not like this. They were smart and cancelled our reservation to avoid the bad review on Open Table.

This place was wonderful. Everyone was friendly. The food was yummy and I left fat, happy and full! The food was well seasoned and the cornbread was delicious. My cocktail was great and all I can say is I will be back!

My first visit was… meh…The atmosphere was warm and modern. There was nice music in the background and our servers were attentive, but that was the best part. The food was hit or miss. I was in a party of 10 and the food was inconsistent. One friend loved their RedFish, but the succotash was a miss. One friend ordered Jumbo Texas Shrimp with Grits and and the grits were nonexistent. But I ordered a side of grits and received at least 3 times as much! One friend never received their order of grits! To make matters worse, when the manager came over to «explain», he began talking about«the cost of shrimp» etc… what?! I know it’s their first week, so maybe wait a little while and try them again…

It was their opening weekend and it was packed. Overall the experience was good. The food took a while to come out but I had to remember that it’s fresh and cooked to order not heat and serve like a lot of soul food restaurants. Our server was very knowledgeable of the menu and offered a great recommendation for wine. I had the red fish with succotash which was fresh and seasoned just right The corn was amazing fresh off the cobb. I highly recommend if you’re looking for fresh qourmet quality southern cuisine.

Terrible ownership. Attentive servers. Low-grade produce and not locally sourced. Nothing special about the food.

Great southern food. Loved the grits and shrimp, kids got the chicken and they liked it. Deviled eggs are really good!

Awesome dining experience. Started with a crab cake appetizer. It was delicious. Moved on to a Catfish Filet dinner. It was also delicious. Finished off with an apple pie slice with vanilla ice cream. You guessed it, delicious. This place has super gourmet food for a very decent price. This may just become my next go to spot.

Fried chicken and shrimp & grits are well seasoned and worth the splurge. Fried green tomatoes were popular but just okay. The shrimp remoulade on top overpowered the tomato seasoning and the batter on the tomato was too thick. I will return.

I normally give five stars only if I’m blown away by a place. But Julia Pearl deserves those stars. First, the food is amazing. So good everyone at our table was sharing. The redfish I had was awesome, and the succotash with it was inventive, fresh, and tasty. They make a hummus out of black eyed peas that captures the essence of traditional hummus, but is way lighter on the palate. The gumbo is probably the best you’ll see in this area. Second, the place is cozy. A really pleasant environment. The staff courteous and attentive, and the price makes it the best bargain in town. Didn’t spend any time in the bar, although it looked as nice as the rest. Like it could be my new«Cheers» hangout spot. I told my son(to his embarrassment) that this would be the«secret weapon» date place for guys his age. Trendy, cozy, amazing food, and all the class of a top tier restaurant at a price that wouldn’t wipe you out on a date.

The signage and name grabbed me! We were greeted with a smile by the hostesses and seated promptly. Our server Sergio was nice, however, he was completely uneducated about the menu. He could not offer descriptions, he could not answer simple questions. I felt that if they were going to have a person serving, they should know the menu! I asked to speak to the chef or someone educated about the food and options! I actually met the chef, he came to our table, incredibly friendly, very warm! And most importantly Smart!!! Knew the menu! Easily answered my questions !! The deviled eggs are AMAZING! The crispy chicken skin takes them over the edge! We ordered a second order of them! The crab dip was also delicious! I ordered the fried chicken, it was tasty, the green beans were outstanding! The collards had a little too much vinegar for my taste, but were flavorful! The Mac and cheese was also good! My friends enjoyed the grilled pork chop and grilled salmon. What was funny was Sergio repeated my friends order for the Salmon, and mispronounced it(the southern way) as if to correct her like she had said it wrong! Over all the food was good, the team was nice, I would just recommend ensuring the servers know the menu and are able to describe it!
