The owners came back from an extended vacation and I, for one cannot be any happier. This is my favorite spot in Dallas. The food is great, prices are cheap, and the owners are super nice! Anyway, I have been here so many times that the owners know who I am by now. The food has that home made feel so it’s perfect for consultants like myself who is always on the road. Here are the items I ordered: — Kong rou fan — Braised pork with rice(my favorite). I usually opt to go with the bok choy but the bamboo shoots are good too. — Pork Chop rice — very nice and crispy. — Beef noodles — soup base is terrific and not as salty as most places. They do not go cheap on the meat either. So that’s a huge plus. Only caveat to this place is that it’s cash only. So every time you see me check in to banks in Dallas, it’s because I’m about to head to this place.

I recently moved to Dallas and so far this is probably one of the best places I had in terms of value + quality of food. I order the braised pork rice, the one with fatty meat. And a fried chicken breast. You are allowed to pick if you want vegetables or bamboo.(Should’ve chose vegetables.) Overall the meat are very fatty so if you don’t like a lot of fat I would recommend another dish. The marinated egg that comes with the rice is also very good. (Recommendations for owner) — use more white pepper in your marinate sauce for the minced pork and braised pork. It is a little bit on the sweet side and not salty enough. The fried chicken was good but I think the popcorn chicken would have been a better choice since I saw a lot of other people ordering it.

I’ve eaten here many times and order the same thing every time: the beef shaved noodles in soup. As far as I know, this is the only restaurant that serves shaved noodles, which are one of my favourite types of noodles. The beef is not fatty and without all the tendons, which I appreciate. If I were to gripe, I’d say the broth is a bit too greasy and perhaps a little too salty. Also, I’d say the shaved noodles are only slightly overcooked. These minor issues aren’t dealbreakers for me and will not stop me from coming here for the shaved noodles!

This is my favorite place to get knife cut noodles when I’m in town. The food is flavorful and not greasy. If you’re looking for American style Chinese food like Panda Express, then this is not the place. The food is authentic Hakka/Taiwanese, and it would probably help if you speak Mandarin. When I see a restaurant that is cash only and very limited in English, then I know I’m in a good place. The fried basil chicken(popcorn chicken?) is so good to snack on. I like sharing a plate of those while chatting with friends. In the winter or a rainy day, there’s nothing better than their noodle soup. I always get the pork knife cut noodle soup. It’s a clear broth. There’s also a beef version with a dark beef broth. The lady who works there is always nice to me so I’m sad that some people rated them poorly for service. Also, the same people own the juice bar in the food court. The banana milk is amaaaazing. I miss it everyday. I’ve honestly never tried any of the other drinks or the shaved ice desserts because I’m always too full.

My boyfriend and I used to come to this cafeteria-like vicinity every weekend just to get the fried chicken rice with vegetables. The food has always been consistent here and the tea eggs are my favorite. I feel that this stand is somewhat neglected because it is hidden in the far right corner when you walk in the main doors. The cashier counter is also not as flamboyant as the other shops. I haven’t ventured to anything else on the menu because I love the fried chicken rice so much. The portion size is generous, and the dish comes with shredded pork(laid on the rice), as well as vegetables or bamboo shoot, and one tea egg. The bamboo shoots aren’t bad, but are usually well over-cooked to prevent any tough pieces. I recommend the veggies(steamed baby bok choy) when presented with the option. The staff members are nice. It’s usually the same bilingual woman that works at the cashier, but occasionally there’s someone who takes over that doesn’t speak much English. It’s not a problem for me, but if you don’t speak Mandarin when the bilingual woman isn’t there, you should resort to pointing at the picture of food that you want. Cash only, like with all other shops in this cafeteria. The only store that will take card is Tasty Tails. In addition to only cash, the restaurant is closed every Monday.

Get that crazy good popcorn chicken. I don’t know what they so to that stuff but its addicting and you get a huge pile of it for just $ 3.50. I also tried the fried fish cakes and they are very interesting. Great flavor but the consistency leaves you wondering what it was you just ate, lol. Anyway it was great and the people who run it are super nice.

I love noodles! Not just any noodles… if you’re a noodle lover, you know what I’m talking about. The perfectly chewy– not overcooked and mushy on the outside, not undercooked and hard in the middle… just chewy nom nom noodles! And this is the place I think of most when I’m having a REAL noodle craving. Get the Hakka noodle dish– literally named«knife shaved noodes» because they take a blade & cut off noodles from a ball of dough straight into the boiling water. The freshness of the noodles is what gives them the perfectly chewy texture. I’ve also had the knife shaved noodles at the other place in this food court– Cheng Du noodles. Hakka Express has better flavor & more toppings.(soup comes with beans sprouts, scallions, ground pork, and lots of MSG i’m sure– b/c I’m always super thirsty after eating it) Bring your hunger & your cash!

I have been informed by the Google that Hakka is some kind of code for Taiwanese. If you say Taiwan food, the dishes are $ 4.95. If you say Hakka, they are $ 5.95 because the Round Eyes think it is now Exotic. That said, their food is really yummy and prepared to order. You better take cash tho — these jokers aren’t big on MasterCard and Visa. LOVE the food court and this section is a gem!

This used to be a 4 star establishment. Now it’s only 3. Had the fatty pork with rice. The pork was dry on the edges. Freezer burn? Probably.

I tried the tofu with basil and it was delicious. My only complaint is that there were no other vegetables in the dish. The tofu was deep fried and soft inside and it was tossed with a bunch of thai basil in a light sauce. Maybe if I have this and the green vegetable stir fry I can get a balanced meal — with a lot of left overs. The tofu would be a good appetizer for a party. Not sure why the owner was not giving me any other vegetarian options. It would be great if they would add a few options to the menu as the place looked promising.

The food does earn this place 4 stars, but the service is 0 stars. The person taking orders & giving out the food is rude. She got our order wrong after I pointed to the picture of the item I wanted, then tried to persuade us to take the incorrect item because«it’s just as good», then got upset since she had to correct the order. Good luck to those who don’t speak a lick of Mandarin…

Hakka Express has everything you want to eat for lunch and dinner. At a very affordable price, they definitely do not skip out on flavor or portion size! I love all of their noodle dishes — that’s what I usually order when I come here. It’s a bowl full of noodles, ground meat(beef or pork), and lots of vegetables(glad they put in a lot of veggies!). As the other Unilocaler said, it is definitely very homey and comforting.. .It’s a place you want to go to when you want something that will satisfy your hunger and feel full. And as a treat, I get either the fried fish cakes or the fried chicken — only for $ 2.99!!! What a great deal! I’m definitely here(or at the Korean place) whenever I’m around the area and hungry.

Finally! Found a place near Dallas that has homemade thick knife-shaved noodles. As my dining-mate and I perused the selections in the Food Court, the woman working at Hakka Express suggested their specialty noodles as we looked at the menu(with pictures! Always helpful.). It had pork, ground pork, bean sprouts, egg, green onions, served with their chewy, hand cut noodles and delicious soup. It was homey and comforting, and the flavor of the soup was excellent. With the huge bowl and amount of meat, it was a really great deal for $ 5! The woman was friendly and even gave us complimentary cups of sweet Asian tea to go with our meal. I will definitely go back and try their other offerings.

Located inside the Food Court near Asia World Market. Friendly Staff and only accept cash. No worries, there is an ATM machine inside. I had the popcorn chicken and fried chicken with rice.
