My new favorite Cajun Place(after Nates of course) on our side of town. Crawfish pistolette is to die for!!! The only thing I can say that is all negative is that it’s not spicy enough for me. The étouffée needs that heat to pep up the flavor. Husband did have the fried oysters and they looked awesome but closer to raw than he would like for fried. Plan to come back tommorrow for gumbo amd bread pudding. Lol

I can’t believe this place is only a couple miles from my apartment and has one of the top 100 foods in Dallas, but I didn’t even know about it until now. The most important thing to know is that Tailgators is BYOB! The second is to order the crawfish pistolette. I’ve never heard of a pistolette before but it’s basically the cajun version of a pot pie. It’s a flaky, deep-fried baguette filled with a rich and creamy crawfish étouffée. Pure 5-star awesomeness! I also ordered a bowl of crawfish étouffée which uses a darker roux than the pistolette. This dish didn’t impress me nearly as much(read 3-star average). The rice was reminiscent of uncle ben’s, there wasn’t quite enough crawfish, and the sauce was a bit heavy. My friend ordered the fried alligator po’ boy and noted the meat was not a good choice. I’ll definitely be back for the pistolette! Tip: If you don’t want beignets for dessert, the Fourteen Eighteen Coffeehouse nearby has delicious Emporium pie’s on their menu.

This is a small hidden gem. Went here for lunch and had the catfish basket with fries(also comes with hush puppies) but they let me substitute my hush puppies for a bowl of jambalaya. This was my first time ever trying jambalaya and I liked it(although I don’t have anything to compare it to). It had a Cajun spicy kick to it. The catfish was seasoned pretty good too. The gentleman that took my order was very nice and friendly. He even let me sample the jambalaya before buying it which I thought was really nice

Don’t rely on them. We recently tried to book them for an event, and they emailed us to say they were available and interested. However, once we set aside a place for them, they failed to reply to subsequent emails and left us hanging. When we finally called, they were not available. Its not really professional to give a client a soft confirmation and then stop responding.

We were in Plano for a weekend and found this place 20 minutes before closing. The staff gave great service and were very friendly and didn’t try to rush us. The food is fantastic and the Crawfish Pistolette was the favorite for our entire family. Flaky outer crust filled with crawfish and tasty sauce. The hand batter fried shrimp crawfish and catfish was tasty and some of the best we’ve had. A small building packed full of good people and great food. On the list of must eat places every time we are in the Dallas area!

This is very nice place. I’m from New Orleans so I look for authentic Cajun/creole food. This is one of the best spots I’ve been to in Dallas. They have crawfish books on the weekend so I’ll be back.

Best Cajun food in Texas. I ordered the gumbo and pistolette and was extremely pleased! The gumbo is very hearty & has a little spicy kick(as it should) and the pistolette was something new that I tried and LOVED(it’s like a Cajun version of chicken pot pie with the creamy filling and fluffy pastry). I would definitely recommend trying this place if you are craving some Cajun. I can’t wait to come back and try more things!

Picked up Boudan balls, meat pies and Pistolette. All were fantastic!!! Brought some extras to the office for our night shift and we agree they were all great. Will be back to try the rest of the menu!!!

Crawfish Pistolette! Like heaven in your mouth! Perfectly fried dough similar to fried donut bread-minus the sugar of course. The crawfish filling is so delicious too. I’ve also had their gumbo, and boudin balls. Great food here if you can catch them :) I just wish they had an actual restaurant location.

I was craving some spicy red beans and rice or really anything Cajun and spicy on a dreary afternoon. I ordered the reasonably priced lunch special which was a poboy and cup of soup. I chose a fried catfish poboy fully dressed and a cup of red beans and rice. My food came out very quickly and it was the cats meow. My lunch portion last me all of 5 minutes as I couldn’t stop eating! Everything was prepared perfectly and not over spiced but they had all the dressings I could want including Tony Chacherie’s and Tobasco which put it over the top. Great food, fast and friendly service with a smile. Great value. I’ll be back.

Being from the 504, I’m stil in search of a good cajun place. We ordered the crawfish pistolette, oyster poboy dressed, fried seafood platter, and an order of beignets. These guys also have a food truck around town somewhere. Small, cozy place with some NOLA, LSU paraphernalia. The crawfish pistolette is like a crawfish soup in a crispy pastry shell. It was really good! Although for $ 4, that’s pretty pricy. Oyster poboy wasn’t bad. The bread was pretty spot on, however I wasn’t a fan of the breading on the oyster; it was too hard and it makes the oyster not seem so fresh. They do give you a lot of oysters though that you can hardly close it. The cajun fries were pretty sad though — dry and soggy. Fried platter had shrimp, fries, catfish, and hush puppies. My husband said he wasn’t impressed. Beignets didn’t look like nor taste like those from Café du Monde, however good effort. They tasted better than other places I’ve been to in Dallas. Not sure if I’ll come back… perhaps maybe when crawfish season is back.

Small town ambiance straight from the Big Easy! Geaux to Cajun Tailgators for authentic, fresh, well-prepared Louisiana favorites such as crawfish pistolette, boudin balls, jambalaya, etoufee and dirty rice. Just remember to save room for the beignets. Tres bien! Laissez les bon temps rouler, y’all!

I had the cajun bbq sandwich and fries w/debris gravy and it was wonderful. A bit pricey but I’ll still be going back.

Speaking as a native Louisianian, this is as authentic as you can get in Texas. Love their boudin balls and étouffée. Only complaint was that although the restaurant is tiny, it seemed a quite unkempt and messy… though some who have lived or visited New Orleans might actually argue that makes this place even more authentic! :D But seriously, I gotta say that I prefer the Tabasco bottles NOT to be sticky when I pick them up to sprinkle over my gumbo. Yeesh!

I am sooooooo glad I joined Unilocal and read reviews for restaurants in my area! I had no idea this gem existed. First of all, everyone who recommended the crawfish pistolette was spot on. I also tasted the fried catfish, french fries, hush puppies, and bread pudding(that my mom ordered). I ate a cup of crawfish pasta too. I wanted to try everything on the menu. Everything was so good! I can’t say it enough. The entire staff are extremely nice. I couldn’t ask for better customer service. Take it from me, a certified foodie from NYC,(one of the food capitals of the world), this place is worth every dollar you spend. It’s not expensive at all. Just a note: Don’t expect to eat quality, made-from-scratch food at McDonald’s prices. I will definitely be a repeat customer, and don’t be surprised if you see me in there during your visit.

Wow! The Pistollets were everything Unilocalers described and are a must to try! They are very rich though, so one is perfect in my opinion. The étouffée was excellent as well. Fried crawfish was good but like all fried meat, it doesn’t do much for me. As for boiled crawfish I can’t wait! We will be back!

There’s something very special about New Orleans and something even more special about its food. Just thinking about the food is making me hungry. Must.Stop. Or maybe I just need to go to Cajun Tailgators in Plano. It’s an itty-bitty shop(with a food truck though, which is no itty-bitty thing). But we don’t let size distract us from the main thing which, in this case, is the fact that they bring their bread in from New Orleans. A small, but tasty and oh-so-important, detail that makes all the difference when you bite into a po’boy. There’s just nothing like the real thing. (Just ask any lover of Chicago pizza — the true believers drop ship because the difference is in the crust.) I’ve now gone twice to Cajun Tailgators for lunch. Both times I ordered a po’boy — the first was fried crawfish, the second was fried shrimp. I preferred the crawfish as it was slightly more tender and flavorful. The po’boys come with a side of onion ring or Cajun fries. Smart lunch-eaters heading back to work opt for the fries. Even if I wasn’t going back to work, I’d still pick them because they are goooood. And I say that as an onion ring lover.

This is a great ‘off the beaten path’ restaurant. They have won several awards for their food. I don’t eat Cajun food very often, but I found theirs to be pretty delicious.

If you’re looking for fancy seafood, don’t even bother. Cajun tailgators keeps it real by serving good ol’, authentic Cajun food! Crawfish pistollete– HIGHLY recommend at least trying this! Reminds me of a chicken pot pie except in the form of a baguette roll Blackened catfish– on a bed of jambalaya AND topped with crawfish étouffée. Need I say more. Recommended by the friendly man behind the register and boy, am I glad he did! Cajun fries– eat them while they’re hot! Seasoned to perfection. The restaurant is small, so there’s limited parking in the back, and it’s very casual. Loved the jazz music that instantly transported me to the time I visited NOLA a few years back. Definitely coming back again when I’m craving Cajun!

During one of the nights at the Arboretum, I decided to try out Cajun Tailgators to see how their food tasted. I am a Creole/Cajun girl and since my roots are from Louisiana, where the heart of this food is, I know a thing or two about Cajun food. I wanted to try every single thing on their menu, so a friend and I decided to order a few things and share it all. We got Boudin Balls, Red Beans and Rice, and Jambalaya. The Boudin Balls were good. They were food truck good. Of course they could have been hotter with a crispier crust to them, but I still appreciated them. The Red Beans and Rice were not that great. They didn’t have the creamy and rich texture and flavor that I am used to having. They were good, but definitely not Louisiana good. The Jambalaya was my least favorite of the night. The rice was a bit sticky and due to that unfortunate texture, I couldn’t enjoy the jambalaya like I wanted to. I would definitely try out some other items on their menu for what it’s worth.
