Steak ‘n Shake

I posted a photo of the drive thru and said in the caption it was kinda slow. That was an understatement. We finally reached the speaker after a long wait and they said it would be at least twenty minutes before they could serve us. Wow! Didn’t even say why. If the restaurant gets that busy late at night there needs to be more staff. We left.

What a train wreck! Arrived at 130 pm on a Sunday and waited for 10 mins to be seated with more than half the restaurant open. Once seated, our wait for a server was about 10 mins. We ordered and got the four waters we ordered about 20 mins later. So after 40 mins we had only received water when we had hoped to be already on our way. It took a few minutes for food to come out and when it did I found a 12 inch black hair in my burger. I nearly vomited as I pulled it out of my mouth. I asked our server for a manager, took him 7 minutes to get out of the back and when he finally showed up he was completely uninterested in helping with the hair issue. Needless to say my party of 4 was disgusted and we left. The manager declined to take the burger off the check and it fell to the high school girl at the register to remove it. She told us ‘don’t take it personally, he is a dick to everybody.’

This place is DOWNRIGHT DISGUSTING. The food may be half way decent, just like the service you will receive here. BUT the cleanliness at this place and the practices performed by this location actually caused me to walk out… I’m starting to think maybe this is a steak n shake wide problem as this was the second one i stopped at for the night to get shakes. And once again the place was so filthy and disgusting i reused to stay. MANAGEMENT IF U READ THIS PLEASE GET SOME HELP AT THIS LOCATION!!!

This is the worst Steak ‘n Shake we’ve ever been to. The service has been horrible the last 5 – 10 times we’ve been here. I’m literally here right now and we just waited 12 minutes for our drink order, had the menus just thrown on the table and all of the waitresses ignored us and still are. Contemplated walking out. If I could give it zero stars I would. Not everyone can be a server. Just because you’re not good at anything else doesn’t mean you can be a waitress. Maybe you’re just not good at ANYTHING!

This is now the third Steak n Shake we have walked out of. We were going to just be an easy walk-​in and walk-​out to-​go order. We entered and the blonde behind the register asked us to step over to the counter area to place our to-​go orders. So we stepped aside and she took an order from the man who was at the counter before us. Then she stood around for awhile and waited for that guy’s shake to come up and brought it to him. Then a few people stepped up to the register to pay, so she checked then out. Then, a group came in through the doors, and she left us sitting there and went around to seat them.
It was at that point that we walked out. My friend was super mad, I thought it was hysterical because it’s what we have come to expect from Steak n Shake.

Excellent service! I love steak and shake. The food was perfect, the tea was perfect and the service was awesome! They have the best burgers and fries. My husband enjoyed his meal as well. It was a quick stop on a cold day and I was fighting a cold but I didn’t feel bad while I was in there!

It’s a Steak and Shake and I had a pretty typical experience. At first I thought they gave me an enormous chili mac supreme (sans meat, of course), but then I realized they put it on a different plate than I normally use, so it was manageable.
My shake was forgotten until I brought it up after my food had arrived, and when I got it, it wasn’t properly mixed: there was solid ice cream deep in the cup. That’s a tasty accident that I don’t mind in the least.

This was a desperation trip when nothing else was open — including the Bell. First of all — Steak ‘n Shake has very few vegetarian options, which is a challenge in itself. The one item they have is the Veggie Melt, but I have yet to experience a tasty one.
I’ve tried and tried but can’t get into Steak ‘n Shake (even before the vegetarian era). It’s just not quality food — in my opinion. The shakes are the only hope for me — and they can be magically delicious. The actual food is just not that great.
Sorry Steak ‘n Shake lovers, but this gig just ain’t for me.

This location has been open for 20 years and has never messed up my order, nor has the service ever been bad. Not much to say except they deserve 5 stars for that even for a chain.

Great food, very pleasant experience. We were in a pretty large group (7), and they had space for us. In fact, there were a few large groups and the wait staff did a terrific job taking care of all of us. Keep up the good work!

Picked up a dinner nosh for the hubs. He loves the chili.
Burger and dog looked good. He loves that they’ll do a chicago style footlong.
I got a diet coke with cherry and wondered later how ridiculous it was to put sugar syrup into a diet coke. Perhaps, it is even more ridiculous than adding it to a regular coke.
Seriously, though, does anyone like those fries?

Service was not good. Drive tru girl was rude, said two words to me, and slammed the window. The food was not as good as other steak and shakes ether.

Good food, good service!!! Food consistent with the North Indianapolis location from last week. Sheri & I love the hashbrown rounds, seasoned crispy rounds of comfort food. pancakes for fluffy a little tough from being over mixed, but served with real butter. Cheddar egg scrambler was delicious with lots of sausage and grilled onions.
Most times I only give chain restaurants 3 stars, but this chain & location is exceptionally good, so they get 4 stars.

Who doesn’t love steak n shake?! Every once in a while everyone’s gotta have a big juicy burger! There’s really nothing that’s not good here. I love the chili deluxe, burgers, blt and the hot dogs. Their dogs are real beef dogs. The cherry limeade is yummy as well as the shakes.
