We find ourselves ordering from here at least once a month. Sit in is a nice experiment as well– decorated with an authentic Mexican feel. Think Adobe style and lots of colors. Food is GREAT. I love the flautas, quedillas y burritos– those are always my go-to’s. My BF loves the chimichanga’s. Only concern: more sour cream!

Tasty bites here at a local favorite. The portions were just the right size. We had the sampler platter for an appetizer; wings with the pineapple sauce, empanadas, flautas all tasty. Empanadas were my favorite, flaky, well spiced beef. For my entrée, I had the chipotle pineapple shrimp, with rice, beans, and steamed vegetables — the shrimp were plump, well cooked, sauce was sweet and spicy. Service was attentive and friendly. We will definitely back.

In an area with not a lot of good Mexican food choices Freppes is a standout. The combos they serve are massive. The fish dishes are tasty and they have a really good menu ideal for dine in or takeout.

I came here twice– first time this summer for lunch on a weekday(not horrible, I’d rate 3 stars). Second time this weekend for dinner(which didn’t happen because we walked out, 1 star). My rating comes out to an average of 2 stars for both visits. First time: Party of 2, was seated promptly since it was a weekday. Waitress was nice and accommodating. Wanted to order one of their specials, the lobster empanadas but was told they were already«sold out». Ended up ordering the shrimp ceviche and guacamole for appetizers. The ceviche was way too sweet, and both were pretty pricey for the portions we received(I think it was $ 6 for a small bowl of guac). Entrée portions were better but unlike other Mexican/Tex-Mex places, I was able to finish the whole thing and didn’t have any leftovers to take home. I’d recommend skipping appetizers and just ordering entrees. Second time: Party of 5 with a reservation. I recommended this place to my friends since it was nearby and I had a decent experience the first time. Promptly arrived before reserved time and was told there’d be a 25 minute wait. A bit disappointed, but we stayed. Asked hostess after about 20 – 25 minutes how much longer– she said another 15 minutes. One of the managers/owners explained to us that they take reservations but«tables are not guaranteed.» Never heard of this type of reservation before, but we said okay. 15 minutes later, we asked the hostess again how much longer and she said«probably another 10 – 15 minutes.» Other parties with later reservation times that just walked in were seated before us. We pointed this out but the hostess did not really offer an explanation. Not only did the she seem inexperienced, my party felt she was pretty rude to us. At this point, it was almost an hour after our reserved time. Because of time constraints, we were forced to leave and eat at a different restaurant. When we politely told the hostess that we’ll be leaving and to please cancel our reservation, she just said«okay» and that was it. Sadly, I guess I won’t be coming back here or recommending this place again.

Awesome and affordable lunch specials. Usually, I’m a little skeptical with lunch specials because when I order it, it ends up looking like something that should be a kids meal. But the Cali burrito destroyed any doubt I had about this place.

I have been a long time customer of the owners 5 Star Pizzeria just down the road.(Italian Village) I had no expectation and was not disappointed. It was very busy(Friday 7PM) and they seemed to have ample staff. Our wait time was reasonable,(30 mins) and the atmosphere is delightful. Joe, the owner, is as pleasant a person as you will ever meet. The food was very good. Hot and flavorful, with a good amount of spice. I had the Burrito bowl and my wife tried the Chimichunga(sp?). We both could not come close to finishing as the portions are on the large side. Very happy to have a Tex-Mex restaurant in town. We really needed a place that can cook Mexican in an authentic style. Well done Freppes!

Not all that its hyped up to be on Unilocal.Looks very nice from the outside. Walked in and expected somewhat of a fine dining restaurant. Something on par with Jose Tejas. Felt like a burger joint… and for the prices charged(especially since you are paying more than jose tejas and otb) — needs to be on that level. 1. Chips and salsa. Prepackaged most definitely .Lack of salt. Salsa was bland. I’ve had salsa that was 10x better from a grocery store. Chips were very dry. I think if you want to be a good tex mex restaurant… start off with some good chips and salsa… which sets the mood right for the rest of the lunch/dinner. 2. Drinks. Had bottled soda so can’t go wrong there. its BYOB. 3. Ordered veggie enchiladas and my friend ordered a chicken burrito. enchiladas were $ 11 + $ 1 for a very small side of guac. burrito was $ 9 + $ 1 guac. Veggie enchiladas — Look: 9⁄10 Taste: 3⁄10. Extremely bland. Had a really hard time finishing my meal. Chicken burrito — Look: 8⁄10 Taste: 4⁄10. Bland. Not something you would want to come back for. Would rather have a burrito from chipotle(according to my friend). We would consider going back if the prices were halved to match the fast food type of atmosphere… but otherwise, its not worth it. Not really a «take your date out spot» or «have a birthday party spot». Positive: Staff is nice.

Great Tex Mex food. Good portion sizes. Casual family dining. Outdoor dining available. Good service and flexible menu choices. Loved the Chicken relleno and Taco’s. Habanero salsa/sauce was very nice.

This is my 2nd visit here. Both occasions were for a special event. I was not disappointed. They allowed and assisted in the theme settings. I really appreciated all what the staff did for us, but especially Cathy. She is a gem. Very nice, open, and reasonable. The food was great and my guest loved it. I will definitely host other events here. A huge variety of choice for food. The private room AWESOME. …

First the ehh. Chips and salsa are the first thing you get at a tex/mex joint and these were below average at best. If I had to give this place a tip it would be to fry your own chips and serve them hot. Other than the above complaint I loved this place. Very nice setting — the wait staff is super friendly. I ordered the Shrimp agave which was superb. Bacon wrapped shrimp over rice. I tried my wife’s tacos which were done just right. I scoped out the dishes being served around me and they all looked great. The place is a BYOB and they will make you margarita mix if you bring a bottle of tequila and serve you up salted glasses for the margaritas. Definitely a gem on the fanwood/Plainfield border. We bumped into a couple we knew frrom Cranford that made the trip. I certainly will become a regular now that I live so close. Prices cannot be beat!

What a huge disappointment. Starting with the reservationists who didn’t reserve a table that we called for and confirmed. 1. Appetizer — ground beef empanadas. This was the only bright spot as they were delicious. All downhill from there though Dinner– We both ordered the burrito and taco combo. The chicken in the taco was so overlooked and hard we couldn’t finish The burrito lacked any real authentic Mexican flavor and the rice and beans barely had any flavor at all. Unfortunate experience for such a highly reviewed establishment. We won’t return

Fun place with an enjoyable atmosphere. The place is clean, and the décor lovely. The staff is SUPER friendly and attentive. It’s worth coming back to this place just for the wonderful service. The chips could use more imagination, and the salsa more consistency and focus. The taco salad shell was crispy and light. Love the mostly Cuban music playing in the background!

Ate here last night after good experience with takeout. I had house salad and Chicken Mexicano. Salad was almost ALL. Iceberg lettuce with olive slices and a couple of tomato wedges. I did pass on the cheese but even with that it would have been too plain. The chicken was great. I asked for no rice with extra veggies. The rice was on the plate and there were no veggies until I reminded the server. My wife had a taco appetizer, which she said was very good. The starters came out pretty quickly but the enters took another 30 minutes. Server was very attentive but the meals were so late I was barely hungry any more. They need to ramp up the kitchen. Ambience was nice.

Absolutely love this place! My only complaint is something was too salty. Could’ve been the pork or the tomatillo sauce. Either way we still enjoyed and will surely be back!

Honestly this place is a nice find! It’s fairly new still but they have the service and the food down pat. The waitresses are nice and attentive. The place is very clean, the prices are inline and they don’t crowd you on top of the other guests, one of my pet peeves! I don’t know what more you can ask from a Tex-Mex place… It is BYOB but, Thursdays you can bring your Tequila and they’ll make your margarita for you. Hello!
