Used to be the place to buy pies a long time ago when it was Perones. It has changed hands over the years and we are not sure who makes them anymore. Went from fantastic to yuck and back again, so not sure of the quality lately, other than what we have gotten over the holidays. Gotta give 5 stars for the sugar free take and bake blue and blackberry.

The best pies, next to mine of course! Apple, berry, pumpkin, cookies, turnovers. I always have to make a stop here to take a couple home. The selection is crazy huge for how small the shop is. Great produce too.

Ikeda: 80 on the way to North Lake Tahoe: The Barn: 50 on the way to South Lake Tahoe The Barn is a smaller version of Ikeda that has more focus on fresh produce rather than dried fruits, candies, and such. Driving down from Tahoe, these stores offer an opportunity to take an interesting rest break. Although sour cream apple pie sounded sketchy, it was the creamiest apple pie I ever had. I requested a non-tart pie, and this 10″ round of heaven delivered the best pie crust and natural fruit flavor ever. There are pre-made pies ready for bake or already baked pies. If the 10″ pies are too large, then go for the pie turnovers. The coconut doesn’t come in the 10″ size, but there’s the turnover. My friend got the apricot turnover, and it was filled with fresh slices of fruit. Delish to the max. Also, I’ve been scouring for apple butter, exactly like the ones found in Texas. The Barn carries this scrumptious spread. I was all over that! And can you believe that this place carries loads of pummelos? Stunned by this eclectic grocery store and bake shop.
