Officially my favorite ice cream in the Pittsburgh area. Personal favorites are the Black Raspberry and Chocoholic Chunk. I have a hard time ordering new flavored as these two are so good. Their normal waffle cone size is pretty big and I do wish they’d have an actual«small» as my wife never eats much. As others have said, they are dog friendly and have a soy based peanut butter cup that our dog loves. Hours are 11AM to 10PM daily which is nice too. If there is a line late night they won’t close until everyone gets through.

This is hands down the best ice cream that I’ve ever had. Me and my boyfriend go there all the time. My 2 favorite flavors — salted caramel truffle and red velvet. We always say we have to go to Lowe’s for something but really we just want to go to Handel’s for ice cream.

After picking up a salad from TJ’s for dinner last night, I thought since my dinner was oh so healthy, why not just negate it all with some old fashioned ice cream ;) I was familiar with Handel’s prior to their arrival in the Burgh since it’s a Youngstown, OH born and bred business, but I had not had it in probably over a year(when I stopped making regular trips out to OH) and I’m oh so glad I stopped by! There was no line yesterday around 5:30pm, and after perusing the minimum of 30 flavors available, I went with salted caramel truffle. Typically I order chocolate malt with caramel, but now I think I might be switching it up every now and then with the salted caramel! According to the kid working it «was just made so it’s going to be real soft”-and he wasn’t kidding! Luckily it lasted without spilling out of the cup(although naturally it fully melted) on my 20 minute drive home. The flavor was much better than that *other* ice cream place nearby(aka Brusters-sorry, had to call it out!), with just the right amount of chocolate chunks so as to not overwhelm the salty caramel taste. I got a small size dish-which was a very hearty portion-for $ 2.90 including tax. I think even DQ is more expensive for a product of much less quality! I’d highly recommend giving Handel’s a try if you’re in the North Hills area!

I love old fashion homemade ice cream places and this is a perfect place to go after a day in North Park. It is located right off McKnight Road in the Lowes complex. They have a ton of great flavors and the prices are reasonable. I went with the bigger size offered in a cup which is three scopes plus a smaller fourth scoop on the top. I also recommend the 4 scoop sampler. With so many flavors it was hard to pick just four! I went with the cookie dough, chocolate cake batter(the vanilla is also delicious!), salted caramel and buckeye(peanut butter ice cream with crushed up buckeyes). All were very creamy and rich with flavor. Can’t wait to go back and try more flavors.

Great ice cream, tons of flavors, generous scoops with large mix-ins, and very affordable! Great to see its under new ownership.

I want to give 5 stars. But I can’t go here anymore since this guy is a molester. Here’s the proof. Cause I would never say something like that about anyone unless it were true.

Decent ice cream joint. Get the red velvet hurricane with chocolate chips.
