I can tell this restaurant use top-grade fish. We tried some sushi rolls as well as sashimi and they taste as good and as fresh as they can get. The tuna is particularly good. Their Thai food is also very delicious and authentic.

First, they closed early during lunch hours due to lack of customer flow Second, we made a reservation for dinner so they wouldn’t close if it was a slow night. We were seated promptly. The restaurant was clean and airy. The menu was filled with variety. The staff was a bit slow(understaffed). We waited a while for our appetizers. We ordered miso soup(watery and no flavor) and tom yum(bad smell). My miso soup was returned because it came out watery and Cold. The tom yum had a smell to it that wasn’t appeasing. We assumed it was due to the portobello mushrooms, that were supposed to be straw mushrooms. The Gyoza, was packaged and not freshly made. That was disappointing. The waitress gave us complementary salad due to the long wait for our main meal. We ordered an extra dirty martini that was sent back because it wasn’t dirty. We also ordered Sake and it came out in a bottle with two shot glasses. Not the proper way to deliver sake. We ordered four specialty rolls: rainbow roll, red dragon roll, Fire roll and a Phoenix roll. It came out decently fresh, rice was sticky and fresh. The best roll was the fire roll. Everything else was mediocre. Although, comparatively speaking this is the best place we’ve been to that serves sushi in all of Moore county. This statement also doesn’t say much for this area.

Not sure what the negative reviews are about. Rolls are really good and servers where friendly. We had three really good rolls and a salad each and it was plenty of food.

About the only sushi option in Pinehurst. This is not so much of a sushi eating town, but this place does deliver. I enjoy their sushi very much, and the wakame salad is also excellent. They have several dishes that are cooked for non-raw fans, like tempura, teriyake, udon soups, and the like. I have never had anything bad at this place, and this place is very good for a sushi place this far inland.

By far, the worst sushi I have ever had. I would rather grab it from Harris teeter any day. It is completely overpriced and not great service. I asked for sauce because the first roll we got was so dry and they drizzled it with mayo. So gross and will never be back.

I have to give two stars because the food happens to be very good. Unfortunately the management is nonexistent. I hate to blame our server for the I ½ hour wait for our food, because it wasn’t her fault. She hadn’t been properly trained enough to explain the difficulties the kitchen was having. When we told her our food was cold, she said we weren’t the first people to say that. When we suggested that you should let people know that there is a problem with getting food out, she told us we had actually been served fairly quickly, some people waited over two hours. The steak and chicken dish arrived without the steak. When it was finally served, everyone else had finished eating. We weren’t offered a cocktail or complimentary dessert for our trouble, not even an apology! This was my second chance here. My last experience wasn’t much better, but gave it another shot because I did like the food. Now we will Stay Away,

The food here is pretty good and the service is about the same. The steak and shrimp hibachi was tasty; however, table mates who ordered the fried rice found it to be extremely bland. Prices are on par with other hibachi restaurants I have been to, however, the others have always actually cooked it at your table so you are paying for the experience in addition to the food. Not the case here. Ten-Ya is overpriced in that regard.

Worst place for eating I’ve been in awhile! There was a fly and a gnat around our table so we had to constantly fan our plates to keep them away. I ordered shrimp shumai and ate one before I realized that there was a hair on the one I was about to pick up! Gross! The waitress apologized and brought me another appetizer which was not good, the veggie tempura. I was not impressed but when I asked the waitress for for salt she said ok and walked off never to return with the salt, I just used soy sauce. When the bill arrived she charged me for the appetizer with hair in it, saying it was cheaper than the veggie tempura she brought me to replace the«hairy» dish. I thought she could’ve offered me the appetizer for free since they messed up. All in all I’m never returning here! Live and learn ;)

Reason for visit: date night The lady and I wanted to get some sushi and spent some time in the village. This place is great. Have a good selection of options, the service was very good, and it was a great place to enjoy conversation while eating sushi. I was even taught how to use chopsticks for the first time, I’m pretty good! If you like sushi, are in the Pinehurst area, stop by this place you won’t be disappointed.

Horrible service, it took 45 minutes to get an order of Edamame… 25 minutes to get a drink order. Horrible… I mean, horrible.

Good service and great quality. Kim was our last waitress and she was fantastic. Great manners and helped cater to special dietary needs of someone at our table. She made some menu suggestions and had ideas for how to modify certain menu items to work for them. Food was fantastic as always. Just have always felt their prices are a little high, but on the bright side, you never have to deal with any riffraff there. So I don’t recommend it for carryout– since you’re paying the higher prices might as well enjoy their lovely facility!

Nice authentic Japanese restaurant in Pinehurst. Make a reservation for quieter back room. Sushi and rolls were great with a good selection. Had cold soba noodles not on menu but they made it for me anyways. Very accommodating. Worth a visit if u like Japanese cuisine.

Sushi was VERY mediocre, especially for the price… atmosphere is less authentic and is more Asian-fusion with a fairly decent wine(huh?!) selection. Service was great, friendly and attentive but sushi took a little longer than normal for it being a quiet Sunday evening.

Ten-Ya, is sort of the only decent thing going in town so it’s got something going for that. Living in LA/Chicago and visiting the NorCal & the Pacific northwest definitely spoiled me in really great sushi, you won’t get anything fantastic or mesmerizing here, but if you have a hankering it will definitely whet your appetite until you can get to the city. The miso soup is fine, ginger house salad, uninspiring but the typical fare of iceburg lettuce, a few julienne carrots and the usual ginger dressing. As one reviewer stated, sometimes entrees are served warmish(but that’s okay by me sometimes). Their hibachi/teppanyaki is okay and proportioned appropriately and I’ve had friends who enjoyed their respective bento offerings. They have noodle dishes that are definitely good for those cold, damp nights out in Pinehurst. Shrimp shumai and tempura are pretty hard to mess up, so you’re safe with these items. I, regrettably, miss a lot of places I’ve frequented in the past simply because many sushi chefs have been open to me creating a roll for myself if I cannot find it on the menu, but here… no dice. Hey! It’s their joint, they can do as they please, but it’s just a bit vexing when you want a roll you can get in 3 places in the San Fernando Valley. It’s also pretty pricey, even though it’s more affordable than some of the places I’ve been to around the country. Ten-Ya is good, I go here often, but I do find myself nostalgic to get back to Cali soon for some, not ‘just good’, but GREAT Sushi!

Ok, here we go again. One reviewer writes«best sushi in the area.» Well… considering it is the ONLY sushi place in Pinehurst, i suppose you could call it the best. Went on a Saturday for lunch with friends. We were seated in the back room right away. When we went in at 1200, there was one couple there, and when we left at 1:30, there were maybe 3 couples total. Point of this story… It took about an hour to get the food out. While I know there is something to be said about casual, non-rushed dining… this isn’t a 6 course meal with wine pairing. The décor is fine, nothing spectacular, but not uninviting either. The waitress was very nice, very responsive and very accommodating. But the food… the food was good. The rolls were OK… typical sushi roll pricing. Most of the lunch combos were about $ 10. THM(Take Home Message): There isn’t much to say. In a land filled with rich, white people… Ten Ya becomes the go-to exotic restaurant. They are quite possibly the only Asian family in Pinehurst… so to say it is the«best sushi in the area» needs to be taken in context. Ultimately, it is worth a try… especially if it’s been a while since you had sushi/sashimi. But I doubt it can be considered«the best.»

Well we found a table all to ourselves and boy was that refreshing. The front room was a little busy but the rest of the restaurant was quiet and wonderful for my fiancé and I to dine. The food didn’t take too long getting to us and the drinks were on par with comparable restaurants nearby. As far as sushi goes in the Sandhills this place can’t be beat in this price point.

take-out review: i ordered the soba noodle with vege tempura and i wasn’t very impressed. compared to its cost — the vege tempura was still hard when i bit into it and the rest were soggy. the noodles itself were okay no complaints there. i’ve had better.

Oh no, what happened here? Sushi was disappointing on our last visit. Grocery store sushi can be better than this … maybe Ten-Ya changed hands or something? :(
