My first time to the area and short I time I found this place and Marjorie! They were able to accommodate my request for a blow out and with little notice. Marjorie gave me the A+ treatment and styled my hair like I was accustomed to at my local Aveda salon back home. Thanks for make the trip and work that much easier.

All the prior reviews about Ashley are true — she is a master at her craft and extremely skilled. I felt at ease in her chair and left feeling so happy with my cut and color I couldn’t stop smiling! She really took the time to understand my current style process and challenges with my hair and suggested techniques and products that might work for me and my lifestyle. The hand and head massages felt so great, and I was offered water and their signature AVEDA tea. I had inquired about her schedule for the day (I was her first client of the morning, or «guest» as they call you) and she admitted it was going to be a long one for her with back to back appointments for the entire remainder of the day at their Mesa location. However, I felt the level of care, precision, and attention she gave me was as if I was her only client that entire day. The salon atmosphere was bright and clean and the stylists were friendly, joking with one another, and helping each other with cuts and styles — it felt like a very positive environment. They also all had incredible hair themselves… which is usually a good sign!
The only downside was the price, but I am a firm believer that you often get what you pay for and in this case I certainly feel that I did! Also as a note, some people might be put off by the tendency to recommend products and perceive it as pushy but I personally did not at all. I love trying new products and especially love AVEDA products, so I was kind of expecting to purchase at least one product there. I also enjoyed learning more about the different AVEDA product lines available and will likely try more of them in the future.
Bottom line — I’ll be back here for sure and will be recommending this place to anyone that wants an amazing salon experience and fabulous hair.

Ashley’s magic! Owner/​stylist Ashley must have a magical hand. Every time I come see her, she takes care of my whole body, not just my hair.
This is her original store and I come to either this location or her newest location in Mesa, where ever she works that week, I travel/​drive to see her.
Her magic starts with neck/​shoulder massage with blue oil. Even after she finishes the massage, blue oil makes you feel like she is still massaging you. Shampoo time is heavenly, especially when she massages my head. I become totally relaxed during shampoo time. At the end of shampoo time, hand/​arm massage time to follow. Did I come here for massage or hair color/​cut?
Ashley is a master hair stylist, after she colors and cut my hair, I have a perfect hair moment. I sometimes change my hair color slightly and she always gets the color exactly I describe it. I don’t know how she does it but color is always the way I want it. When she has time, she curls my hair. I just love the way she curls my hair. I feel like a princess when she does that for me. OK, I may be too old to call myself a princess but she sure does make me feel special by the way she takes care of my hair and after her massage.

I just relocated here from Southern California and was not looking forward to finding a new Aveda Salon. Let me say that my entire experience was amazing. I would recommend this salon to anyone. Absolutely loved Sarah.

I have struggled my entire life with my hair. Being biracial neither myself nor my mother have known what to do with my hair. I have always dealt with rejection or a lack of interest as to what to do with my hair. I stepped into Distinctive one day and was paired with Ana. Not only was she excited about working with my type of hair she suggested so many options and directions to go with my hair. That has never happened before. After months of growing my hair and cleaning it up Ana has helped me develop my own personal style and day to day hairstyles. I highly recommend men of color and of course ladies to book with Ana. Ana is not afraid of a challenge and can work with any type of hair!

I walked in and was serviced by Jason I believe his name was. Tall & has a country kind of accent. I told him I wanted to go lighter and add some depth to my color. Other salons I went to just didn’t listen to me and I always left unhappy and with an empty wallet! Not here! He listened to what I wanted and when I was done and blown out, I was in love! I love my hair now, I’ve wanted to go lighter for so long but other stylists told me it wouldn’t look good, Jason made it look amazing! The only thing I was disappointed with was the price… It’s a bit over priced for my budget but considering its location, it’s not too bad. overall, it was worth it. The salon was clean and had a light, modern, airy feel to it. I will return if I’m ever on this side of town!

I have been coming to this salon since they opened. I love the team at Distinctive! Every stylist does a great job. I love the way Ashley and Leeann work together to give me the best hair color and cut! I love the way they always know exactly what my hair needs to be at its healthiest state. They have two convenient locations, Biltmore and East Mesa. I definitely recommend you book an appointment, you won’t be disappointed!

JASON JASON JASON! Momma and I love him! He cuts and colors our hair and he is the best when it comes to color and making you look good! He didn’t just become junior stylist for nothin… Besides getting «hair by Jason» the salon is super clean and smells terrific! I love aveda!

Went back for David last week Saturday for a new haircolor and as always his magic hands did superb work my hair was back to its lush beautiful self with new color and I am happy! The salon was as it’s always been everytime I came in very clean pristine condition very helpful staff I was offered water by a kind and awesome lady (I believe she was the owner) and I will say they treat you very well in the salon. the hot towel treatment omg looooove it my hair needed it! They need to add David to their website and stylist list bc he is that awesome! Thank you David ! and thank you Distinctive salon for providing an awesome relaxing place and don’t let David go!

This is my first one star. I can’t even review the business. I was looking for a salon open on Sunday, this one had good reviews, offers what I need, and even offered a deal that I bought. The Unilocal hours show open, the phone message says open, so I head over… and sure enough, it’s closed. I am beyond disappointed.

I’m really quite impressed. I had a hair disaster on Nov 29^th at another establishment with a certified Aveda Educator, self-​proclaimed Color Specialist, the Cosmetology Team Lead, and the 2014 Aveda Institute Phoenix Champion winner (Angie Perino Nelson). She turned the crown of my head Polar Bear White and then toned all 3 feet of my honey blond hair with natural sun-​kissed highlights in 10-​N plus Light Yellow Orange toner. The result: I looked like I had a color mullet with the business part in monochromatic yet streaky Electric Butter Yellow and the party part in yellow straw. My hair was not in shades of blond but in shades of yellow.
I was having a very hard time trusting anyone with my hair, so I sought 4 color correction consultations with 4 senior-​most color specialists at highly rated Aveda salons around the Phoenix Valley. Meanwhile, I washed my hair daily and watched the yellow somewhat fade away.
I finally chose Distinctive’s owner and master sylist, Ashley Hamilton. She advised me not to do any drastic color correction and wait and see how much of the semi-​permanent toner would wash out in the next few months. In the meantime, she added color back into my crown with deposits-​only color in order to break up the ultra fake, monochromatic look with honey-​colored lowlights. She also toned the crown of my head after adding the lowlights so that the top would better blend with the bottom 2’7″ of my hair.
I was speechless. My hair had no band and looked natural. It had a soft wheat-​colored look from root-​to-​tip. Although I’m still mourning the loss of my original color and significant multi-​dimensionality, I am happy with Ashley Hamilton’s correction. I fully believe she saved my hair! The visit was on the pricey side, but like most things in life, YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR. Thank you, Ashley Hamilton and Distinctive Salon.

I’ve been going to this Salon for over 5 years. Leeann is amazing! I had some hair loss and thinning after a surgery and she helped me get my hair back into shape. I get compliments on my hair often. She is not cut-​happy like other stylists and has helped me grow my hair past the middle of my back. I finally convinced my husband to see her and he’s pretty happy as well. He claims she’s a hair-​scientist.

May I please have 6 stars for this!!!
I walked in with no appt. late, really late Sat. afternoon, with a DISASTER of hair I’d tried to color at home. Dark brown, almost black in front, nasty blondish orange streaks all over, and I was almost in tears. I lucked into Ashley, owner and MASTER stylist and colorist. «Sure,» she said, «no problem, we can fix this easily.» And she did. She stayed late, her work was METICULOUS, and I walked out with the best hair color ever. EVER.
I was really pleased that there was no heavy push on product, and I felt totally comfortable in her hands. It was so obvious that she knew exactly what she was doing. AND she said they offer bang trims GRATIS!!!
I am in the process of moving my offices back into metro Phoenix from the far East Valley, and this will be my hair’s new home!

Awesome place! First, I stopped in to see if there would be a stylist to help «fix» a bad haircut from six months previous and refresh my color and highlights. The receptionist set me up that same afternoon with Amanda. When I sat down in the chair, we chatted about what could be done, and Amanda was under the impression (and I was booked) only for a haircut. She immediately had the afternoon receptionist call her appointment after me, to ask if that person would mind coming in about 45 min later. Amada was not stressed out about this apparent mishap at all. She said if that appointment could not adjust, she would work it out, because she didn’t want me disappointed, in the fact that I thought I was going to have the works, and couldn’t. Talk about service!!!
While processing, there is a very nice couch with foot rests to relax on, and two other stylists, (David and I didn’t catch the gals name), came over to chat with me, bring me magazines, and asked if I needed anything. Never have experienced the friendliness of other stylists like that in a salon before!
The cut and color came out really nice! There is no pressure to buy the products like other salons, and everyone was so accommodating and friendly, and talented, (I saw a few other clients heading out the door, finished, and they looked great! Oh and the price — very reasonable!!!
Highly recommend giving this salon a try!

I have been going to see Ashley (the owner) at Distinctive Salon for over 5 years now and I have to say every single time I go in there it is nothing short of an amazing experience. Ashley saved my poor over processed hair (thanks to many years of going to the wrong stylist while in college) and has continued to help me keep my healthy hair even 5 years later. She also did my hair for my wedding and I still get compliments about my hair from that day. You will not find a better salon in Phoenix and I know from personal experience that Ashley along with her entire staff are the best of the best.

I’ve been going to this salon for a little over 5 years now to Leeann my stylist. I absolutely love her and can say that Distictive is probably one of the best places I’ve ever had my hair cut.
The staff is always friendly and in a good mood. They are always having a good time while working and are fun to chat with while I’m waiting or even in my chair getting cut.
Leeann is hands down a super rock star. She is always on her game and gives me the exact cut that I’m looking for every time. I love her shoulder massages almost as much as the haircut itself. She is very informative and is always willing to teach me new things or techniques for me to use at home to get my hair looking like it does when I walk out of the salon. She’s worth every penny no question.
Don’t listen to the 1 star review for someone who went to a hair salon to get her nails done and didn’t even experience the full service cut and style. Completely unfair to rate this place on that one experience and they don’t deserve that 1 star rating at all.

I have been working with Amanda for the past year and, for the first time in over 20 years, she changed my hairstyle for the better. She did it incrementally, in a fashion that was subtle and not threatening. She has never recommended that I use products endorsed by the salon and I could not be more satisfied.

Marjorie is fantastic! She really takes the time to listen to you and cut your hair exactly the way you want it. Would highly recommend!

I have come here several times and Anna is my stylist. She is fantastic and always has great suggestions and does a fantastic job. My last visit I wanted to chop off my length and brought it several pictures, she reviewed them all with me and let me know the pro’s and cons of each. Their location in town and country is fantastic.

I found this salon via Unilocal and decided to give it a try even though it wasn’t the most highly rated. It is close to my house and I am still figuring my way around this new-​to-​me city.
They are super slow on monday’s so I was the only customer they had the entire two hours I was there. I requested a manicure and pedicure with the shellac nail polish. Their polish selections were extremely limited in shellac which is hurting their business badly because other salons I have been to in the past (in UT) have a TON of shellac color options. They didn’t have anything close to what I wanted so I went with a red in the shellac for my hands and a dark vampy purple OPI for my toes.
The girl helping me was super super sweet and fun to talk to but its very obvious how inexperienced she was. I asked her how long she had been doing nails and she said «.a year». Thats not too bad and I know going to school for nails isn’t a treat either so I know she has worked hard to get where she is at BUT… BUT BUT BUT if I am going to spend $ 90 (after tip) on my nails, they better be immaculate! I wasn’t exactly happy about being there for almost two hours and my finished product is mediocre at best. I would have MUCH rather spent that money taking my man out to dinner or setting it aside to buy new furniture. After this experience, I may only get a mani and pedi on special occasions.
I could have painted my nails better with a polish at home. I’m super bummed about this because I work really hard and to spend $ 90 on something I am so unhappy with just sucks. I left without saying anything because I plan on emailing the company just to let them know how I feel.
For nails, I wouldn’t recommend this place and I won’t be going back there.
