I will try my hardest not to live in an HOA Community again. Yes the dues for this HOA are cheap but you end up paying a couple grand a year on all the«improvements» they want you to make on your home. I felt like I didn’t even own my home. I felt like I just invested money in it to make it look good for someone else. I appreciate the overall concept of wanting to keep the home values up but all their rules and the power they have over«your» home are ridiculous. I would recommend that unless they clean up their act buy a home in a nice neighborhood that doesn’t have an HOA so you wont at gun point have to shell so much money on your house.

Its unfortunate. I am sure the community programs are wonderful, so I am not here to rate those, but the way the Ahwatukee Board of Management treats their residents is beyond appalling. They cherry-pick who to enforce«rules» on and are relentless until they get their way. I have lived in Ahwatukee in the same home since 1991 and have never had a respect for the lack of work they do. They lie, cheat, and are down right disrespectful. I believe someone needs to be over them to regulate the corruption, but alas, it has continued and will probably never be stopped. There are 12 people who work there and they are erecting a million dollar building… for 12 people. No wonder fees increase every year. My childhood home is gorgeous, my mother puts all her work and effort into maintaining a beautiful front and back yard, and yet they nitpick at every small detail even though homes all around us can sometimes look in the dumps. Do they not see the house behind us that is completely dust, weeds, and dog poop? I do not put names or home numbers when mentioning because I believe it is none of their business nor do I want to get neighbors in trouble, but it is discrimination on a different level to continue to beat my poor mother to death about her exquisite yard, just because one member dislikes her. My heart aches for my elderly mom when she is in tears on the phone with me over the way this member of the board harasses her. She tries to appear strong, but is heartbroken and simply tired. She recently put in a driveway to her gate as she is taking care of her elderly parents and wanted a place for emergency vehicle to be able to pull into as well as a place for her car since my grandfather is parking in the garage and she allowed him to also use part of the garage for his work shop. This small driveway is actually much better and neater than the dirt that was previously there, but of course the moment they noticed it they sent her a letter and said she had to tear it up because she did not formally request it. She requested a meeting and after an hour of debate they relented to let her keep it for 3 years(hinting that in three years her parents will most likely be dead) and at that time they will reevaluate it, but are unwilling to allow her to park on it as they would much rather her park on the street, blocking the entrance to the cul de sac. Does this even make sense? So for now a perfectly good driveway will sit for 3 years because no one can park on it according to the board. You better believe when I come home in two weeks I am going to park the crap out of that driveway and they can suck it. I hear countless stories from others around ahwatukee who have also had it with this board, but yet no one stands up to them and no one regulates them. If I could give them 0 stars I would. I always thought the board was corrupt due to the way they torment certain homes yet some of their areas they«maintain» are awful, but now I downright despise them. I am finishing medical school, but once I graduate in a few months, the first check I receive will go towards lawyer fees, and once I raise enough money I will be suing the board, and according to my lawyer friend, with all the emails collected from the board, as well as documented photos of the neighborhood, I will win.

I have lived here since 2002 and love the staff and the programs offered. The dues are much lower than most HOA fees. The community swim and tennis centers director Susan Hyden is very friendly. The programs and events throughout the year are geared for all age and very diverse interests. The pool is clean and the children enrichment programs are great. I also like the small park with picnic areas. There is also a small 9⁄11 memorial.
