New Amsterdam Bar & Restaurant

Very poor slow service. Arrived at 5:50pm on a Saturday and finally received soups at 740pm. Poor communication in the kitchen and poor management very clear. Food obviously warmed in microwaves. Very disappointing as a past frequent customer.

A word of caution. If you order a «filet» here, I assure you, you will not receive a filet mignon. You will receive a fatty piece of top loin not a melt in your mouth, tender prime cut of meat. When we asked our server, who was incredibly sweet by the way, her co-​worker seemed to think she needed to be micromanaged and stepped in to explain the cuts of meat. Instead of apologizing for the misunderstanding, it was about being right. They need to acknowledge that regardless of the definition of a del Monaco cut, a filet in the United States is interpreted as a filet mignon. The owner or whoever he was who came to our table at the end was less than professional. He was willing to argue but never apologized to the point that my wife asked for a bill and said she wanted to leave. To get to that point, she had to be pretty upset with the scenario. We will never go back for food or drinks even. I suggest our server look for another job because she could do better. In addition to a less than optimal cut of meat, the Caesar salad was overdressed making it incredibly salty. The spinach and artichoke dip was actually good. The Dutch was a pretty good sandwich. The moscato d’asti was flat and it should be bubbly and served very cold. Overall, not worth your time (our ticket time was long!) or money!

My boyfriend and I went here for our first date, and recently went back for our one year anniversary (we’ve gone back a few times in between). He gets the Dutch Club every time, and thinks it’s the most perfect sandwich ever made. I always get the French onion soup, which is perfectly warm and cheesy! I also got a grilled chicken Caesar salad, which was good, but nothing special. They also have a lot of unique, well-​priced drinks, including a drink named after each borough of New York! My boyfriend got the The Bronx, which wasn’t my taste, but he enjoyed it. I got that night’s special, which was some sort of sangria on tap. My one complaint was that the sangria didn’t have any fruit, but otherwise everything was awesome!

The food can be a bit hit or miss, but I have been here many times and they have always done their best to make it right. Will go back again and again.

Our group of 18 had reservations for Sunday afternoon after a program at Riverfront museum. Restaurant across street from museum –very convenient. Service was excellent. Two waitresses took care of our group and were very attentive. Bar selection was excellent. Food was good. We had a couple of the Flatbread selections which were pretty good. Others in our group had sandwiches and while I didn’t take a poll it looked like everyone was happy. Disclaimer: my free dessert from Unilocal did not influence my review. We are saving it for tonight.

This place was not what I expected. The food was horrible and the bartender was no mixologist not a good experience at all. Its location is nice and that’s about it.

So the hours today on Unilocal show open until 1am. It is 10:30pm and they are closed. The sign on the door says Open Late Everyday. I should have taken a picture. Nothing more infuriating to an out-​of-​town traveller than a restaurant that does not update their hours here. It sends a clear sign you don’t care about your business, and as a result, no traveller should care about you.

So upsetting!!! Wait staff was so nice and knowledgeable, spinach artichoke dip was great. BUT I ordered fish and chips there was a hair wrapped and cooked onto 2 prices of fish, I noticed it right away. Showed the waiter he took it back. I decided not to eat cuz looked so horrible!!! If course they took it off my bill which they shod have!!! So I said can we get an 10% discount or something cuz now we have to find another place to eat so I can eat since my hubby started eating already. The wait staff was so nice he said the owner refused to give any discount since he already discounted my meal!!! Uhhhhh hello a meal that I didn’t eat do to hair, that is not even a discount. Horrible customer sevice be the owner!!!

This place is just alright. Extremely slow service, even when it wasn’t even busy at 7pm on a Saturday. Everyone kept going to the bar for drinks because the wait staff was so slow. The food is decent, although the flat bread was under cooked and doughy. Decent prices but definitely not worth all the time we waited.
The magician and the live singing were actually the best part of the evening; they were entertaining and brought some life to the place.
Still waiting for my beer. Or I’ll just take my check… As I write this…

Everything about this place is just barely OK. I thought the food seemed like it went from freezer to fryer to faily tolerable. The beer list is trying, but doesn’t stand out, even for the area.
Service didn’t make me want to punch anyone. And because nothing really seemed to stand out, I felt like it was a little pricy.

My husband’s lunch was fine, but my prime rib sandwich was all fat and gristle. When he complained, the manager came out and took half off the price of my sandwich saying that he’s «told the kitchen staff not to do that.» Time for a new kitchen staff that listens. Like them on Unilocal while you’re there for a free dessert. The chocolate one is delicious and huge. During the nice weather it’s nice to sit outside on the patio. The restaurant inside seemed like a cold and loud atmosphere.

Tap selection was good but the food was very average at best. Service helpful and nice.

Average food, huge portions. Very expensive for a lunch and not worth the price. I had the Grouper Sandwich with fries, a side Caesar Salad, and Ice Tea. Total with 20% tip was $ 32.75.

Overall I’m not impressed with New Amsterdam. Too expensive for a lunch meal and service too slow for a quick sit-​down meal. Much better options in downtown Peoria.

Horrible service, food is cold and unappetizing. The view of the river is good but the poor service ruins the experience… I give it a 1 star for the location only… my advice, go somewhere else…

Sat outside, great atmosphere with a pretty good guy on guitar so singing. Very slow kitchen — took an hour to get a cheeseburger and it wasn’t that busy but the waitress was great! Checked on me often, apologized for the wait and brought me a wine on the house. Overall a win!

New Amsterdam was definitely a hit for us! We sat outdoors on the patio which is spacious and is right on the river, so it’s s great view. Also seems like it would be a good weekend spot.
We had the ghost pepper nachos (hot perfection!!!), island tacos, steak dish, and big apple chicken. I had the chicken, and it was even better than I thought it would be– spicy but also sweet with great sides.
Our waitress was fantastic and helped us throughout the meal with suggestions on what is popular and also gave us beer samples when we asked.
The only thing that we didn’t like was the beer list. We (surprisingly) didn’t recognize any beers on the list except the standard bud light, etc.
Overall, really enjoyed it and will be back again. They also had live music on a Wednesday night inside for an added bonus.

New Amsterdamage. The place is a late night staple, the best place to go for some drinks after you’ve been drinking. The beer selection leaves you in awe and the staff can whip up any old cocktail.
I’d give it five stars, but we went for lunch one day and it kinda sucked. The food was not memorable, but the service was so horrific as to leave some emotional scarring. My bad, I went to a night place during the day.
I’ll come back at night. Late, at night. Good times!

We got a deal through the Pantagraph so decided to check this place out. Overall, good food and service, awesome draft beer selection, but weak mixed drinks. Plentiful outdoor seating with a gorgeous view of the river.
Due to the heat, we opted to sit inside. Despite the restaurant being crowded, we had prompt service and our food arrived quickly. Lots of small plates/​appetizer options that are priced reasonably ($ 6 – 8 each). For starters, we had chips and guacamole, cheese sticks and margaherita flatbread. The chips were a little stale and the guac tasted like something from a pre-​made tub. The cheese sticks were a little bland (they were wrapped in wonton wrappers, and not breaded), but hot and fresh. The flat bread was the best in our opinion – crispy crust with a pesto sauce, mozzarella and fresh tomatoes and basil on top. My boyfriend had the prime rib sandwich (which was a little pricey at $ 15), but he enjoyed it. The handcut fries as a side were amazing!
My complaint is with the mixed drinks. This place offers a huge selection of mixed drinks, many of which sound refreshing. I tried the Pimms cup and the Moscow Mule. Both had an «off» taste and were a little bit weak. I would just stick with their beer and wine, which were all awesome selections anyway.

Yuck. We went here with a large group (14 people) on a Saturday night — we had a reservation. The experience was off to a rocky start when not everyone got a menu because they had to «print more». The place was empty so I’m not sure why they didn’t have enough. Finally people got menus, they took our drink order, appetizer order and dinner order.
During the drink order a few in our party wanted a couple bottles of wine. The waitress seemed not very experienced when it came to wine because she didn’t ask them which bottles specifically they wanted and she couldn’t pronounce most of the wines.
For appetizers we had the lobster rangoon and spinach and artichoke dip. The lobster was basically non-​existant. A couple I bit into were empty!
For entrees, many people in our group ordered fish tacos. Someone in our group asked if it came with a side. The waitress said she didn’t know so she went to look at the menu, came back and said it did. So everyone ordered a side with their fish tacos. Well, when it was time to pay they were all charged. We just wanted to leave at this point so after one round of refusing to pay and the server not budging, we gave up, paid and left. I had the steak and mashed potatoes which were edible but nothing to write home about.
It’s worth the money and drive for a nice meal to go to Jonah’s or Alexander’s.

I love atmosphere and beer selection. This place has both. 28 beers on tap, plenty of bottles to choose. Many of which are craft and local. Live music and energetic bartenders made this a fun place to hang out on Saturday night. It is very clean which provides for a comfortable experience. You could dress up a little bit and bring a date here, or simply hang out with some friends. Either way, you’ll fit right in.
I had lunch here a couple of years ago and it was alright, so I can’t speak much to the food.
I wish more places in downtown Peoria had it going on like New Amsterdam. Clean, fun and quality.
