Sunday Brunch with the family. Kelsey was our server and provided exceptional service. Chicken & waffles, GOB(good olé hamburger), eggs Benedict & kids plate. Jazz band provided the right ambiance.

This has been our date night haunt for the past few years. We surely do miss CJ! The changes seem subtle, but are all in the wrong direction. From the cracker packets stuffed under a number of tables to keep them stable, to the fake«butter» to the hint of lemon in my drink, it appears that every dime is being wrung out with no attention to the quality that was previously a key to their success. But all the prices have been raised. Carefully look at your bill, you may be charged for something you didn’t order or add on charges. This has happened the past 3 visits. Now, the hostess certainly wasn’t hired for her pleasant personality but because she looks good in leather jeans. All waitstaff have been replaced so knowledge and timeliness have been replaced with mass confusion. My brisket was fresh for the chiller cold; my waitress was busy with another table do I mentioned this to the«hostess» who made sure that I knew she didn’t give a fig about my meal or me! When the plate was replaced it was a plate full of the fat trimmings… CJ we miss you!

Heard about this place from my instructor. Not being in Pensacola for long, I figured we had to try it. We went for Sunday brunch. And I’m so glad we did! They had a jazz band playing, the atmosphere is just delightful! The place is so joyful, clean, and welcoming! The wait staff was so pleasant, the service was fast, and the food was just amazing! We started with coffee and the intention of ordering breakfast. The coffee was on point! We needed up getting Mimosas and Bloody Mary’s. The bloody Mary’s are different, they are kinda more sweet then expected but the are served with big green olives and okra. It was a different take on it. Not bad, just not my thing really. We got the sampler and it was amazing! The fried green tomatoes are to die for, and the shrimp are even more amazing! We ended it with the blueberry bread pudding and that had to be the highlight of the entire experience. It was the best bread pudding I’ve ever consumed! I will return!

Moved to Pensacola a couple years ago and this is my favorite restaurant in town. Best fried chicken and greens I’ve ever had. I bring all my family here when they are visiting from out of town. The service and atmosphere are southern comfort at its finest. I would highly recommend you stop by and give 5 sisters a shot.

Seriously, make a stop here! Between three of us, we had every side… consensus was the green beans and macaroni and cheese. Great fried chicken, smoked turkey, and blackened fish. But, before you take time for your meal, eat dessert first… blueberry bread pudding is to die for!

Whoa. How can a restaurant of this caliber be this bad? I have not looked at my review from several years ago, but I’m quite sure it was a rave as I remember being hugely impressed. I know every restaurant has it’s off days but the off we experienced last night was epic. To begin with the service was AWOL for the first twenty minutes or so. When we finally got to order drinks they came in spurts, the last two of our party of six being served their house wine easily ten minutes after everyone else. It seemed like an eternity before we finally caught our server’s attention to give our orders, and it seemed clear that she was at that point not intending to attend to us. We had to flag her down, although at that point she was quite pleasant and attentive as she took our orders. I don’t think the problem was so much her. I suspect the restaurant was probably not properly staffed last night. The dinners were subsequently long in arriving from the kitchen. My fried chicken was way, way, way over done to the point of being dry and tough. And the onion rings were of the frozen pre-breaded variety one would expect at maybe a Dairy Queen or Sonic, no where near what a restaurant of this kind should be preparing in house. Several were clumped together in an unappetizing wad. My wife’s fried shrimp and oysters arrived in a gooey heap. No, really. A gooey heap. If they were ever crisp it was in another life time. I’ve honestly never seen anything like it. My sisters crab cakes were not only burned, yes, burned, but so unappetizingly flavored as to be virtually inedible. My BIL’s fried pork chops were edible, but not enjoyable. It was just crazy. How could so much be so wrong? One is tempted to think there was either a very, very unhappy employee in the kitchen determined to do as much damage as possible on his or her way out, or the keys to the kitchen were tossed to someone who had never seen a kitchen before. The one bright spot in this meal was the collard greens. Wow. To die for. How can the kitchen get this one thing so crazy right, when so much else is unhappy? As unhappy as this dinner was, I’m just not sure I am willing to give the restaurant another try when there are so many other great dining options in town. I love the venue and the concept, but, man, something has got to be done to address this. If it was just one meal out of six, that would be one thing. But this many misfires on a not particularly busy night? Something is amiss.

What an amazing place! My wife and I were looking for a new spot to try for lunch the other day and had been looking at this restaurant for awhile. Smiling happy hostess greeted us at the door, waitress was extremely pleasant also. We had the fried green tomatoes as our app. For the main course my wife had the fried oyster basket and I had the chicken and waffles. The food was cooked PERFECTLY. Best fried green tomatoes I’ve tried yet. Oysters and chicken were amazing. If your looking for a new favorite spot just give this location a try.

Cozy atmosphere with light live jazz music in the background. We were graciously seated by the hostess and almost immediately greeted by Sean. Sean you rock. His suggestions exceeded our expectations. We started with the Seafood sampler. Now before I go any further. Please don’t think we are gluttons. In my defense this was our 2nd meal of the day and it happened to be a dinner after 3 pancakes in the morning. So, yes! We were super hungry group of three people. Seafood sampler was fresh, well breaded and tasty. Sean explained the different sauces and did I tell you he is awesome? Now to the entrée, I had fish shrimp and grits(recommended by Sean again!) Fish was blackened to perfection and a touch of lime worked wonders on it. Grill was well grilled and grits was just perfect. Not too cheesy not gritty! We also ordered fried chicken and smothered pork chops. You can’t go wrong with fried chicken in a soul food restaurant. Their corn bread really stood out. And their freshhhh bread was amazing as well. I highly recommend this place if you are in Pensacola area.

My husband and I had been driving down the Gulf coast from Destin stopping at the beautiful beaches along the way. Around 3pm, we were starving and were looking for any place which would still serve us lunch and which wouldn’t entail a long drive from our current location. Of course, Unilocal helped us decide… Five Sisters it was, with 200+good reviews. We both immediately like the cozy ambience and my husband loved the cool arts on the wall with portraits of famous jazz artists. We asked to be seated inside since it was a warm day in Pensacola, but I loved the vibe of the outdoor seating too. Perfect for afternoon drinks and catching up. Our waiter perfectly matched the laidback vibe of the place, also making very good suggestions. It was the perfect amount of interaction, making sure we had what we needed all the time without interrupting us too frequently. I went with the jumbo crabcake platter with sides of fried green tomatoes and rice and beans. My husband stuck to our server’s suggestion and went with the slow cooked potroast with sides of black eyed beans and sweet and spicy yam. As we waited for our food, we devoured some fresh, warm, sweet bread with butter. And then the food came out. it was a feast with huge portion sizes and complimentary corn bread. When two starving foodies feel overwhelmed by the amount of food on the table, you know it’s a lot of food for real. And good food it was. The crabcakes were good albeit a little devoid of spices, but the potroast was a winner. so soft and succulent. I’ll remember it for a long long time. The yams and fried green tomatoes were also pretty good, the beans were okay. They said they have live music for brunch and dinner. guess it would add to the attraction. For us, the food, ambience, and service were enough.

My coworkers from Pensacola know I’m a foodie, and so they brought me here! Immediately I liked the cozy ambiance and cool art on the walls. I read they have a jazz Sunday brunch, and was bummed I would not be able to check out the live music. Good reason to come back! Another good reason is the food. Although the presentation was simple, the food packed a powerful punch. Our server suggested the chicken and waffles(popular dish), and so I went for it. When she brought it out, I looked down at my plate with a small frown on my face. The Land-O-Lakes butter packets next to the waffles did not help the situation. I feared the worst. Until, of course, I took the first bite of the juicy chicken strips. The chicken had a tiny bit of spice that went well with the maple syrup drizzled on top. The waffle was fluffy and delicious! I was once again happy with my choice. Everyone at the table was also satisfied and had very good things to say about the food. Some of us even tried to figure out the secret ingredient used in the chicken salad sandwich… was it turmeric, or some special herb? Actually, right now I can’t remember, but this girl was so happy that she figured it out! I’m a fan of the Five Sisters from just my first visit. The service was great and the food was out on time(we also happened to mention that we were out for a work lunch and needed to make it back soon – that usually works – and it’s true!). Hope to see you real soon!

Very disappointed in food here. After hearing all the rage, I decided To try it out. The food tasted frozen. We ordered country fried steak, and fish with grits… which was definitely not fresh. The sampler appetizer we ordered was burned. The grits tasted bland and so did the fish. Even the cornbread tasted gross. It was rubbery and dry. The gravy that came on the country fried steak was dark brown… looked canned. Basically it looks like they got everything from a school cafeteria. Everything came out of a can and was frozen. Nothing fresh here at all. For the price, they could at least serve sauces in non disposable ramekins! To call this southern soul food, is a joke! Needless to say we will not go back. Definitely not worth $ 70.

I came for a Sunday brunch after scuba diving and this joint hit the spot. Awesomely, it is a jazz brunch so there was«live music.» I put that in quotes because it was a woman singing and a dude on the guitar playing with some background music. I mean, the background wasn’t just like a drumbeat, it was other voices(instruments) as well, so it seems kinda fake(like a lip sync). I’m sure they have a whole band, but it was just weird hearing a solo part and no one is actually playing it. At any rate, the service was decent – a little bit slow. However, the food was great. If you’re at the brunch, get this dish because I think it’s only served at that time: The New Orleans Napoleon Puffed pastry layered with scrambled eggs, andouille sausage and green onions topped with Hollandaise sauce. Served with hash browns topped with our three cheese blend and diced tomatoes. Make sure you get it with the cheese grits! At any rate, good spot for food and I wouldn’t mind coming back to try their other delights. Lastly, this place is ideal for large groups.

I really enjoyed this place food & ambiance. They open on Sundays at 11. We got there at 11 with a group of 8, every table was full. Word to the wise show up early as they don’t take reservations. We waited by the bar for over an hour. We waited patiently for drinks & the poor bartender was slammed with drink orders & people that had food orders at the bar. No one jumped in to help her & the drink orders just kept coming in, since that’s the 1st thing you do when they take your order. She eventually walked out. Then 2 people started working behind the bar. We got our drinks eventually then we’re seated. 1st off everyone was very friendly & pleasant. The food was great. The blueberry bread putting was so amazing. The only thing I didn’t enjoy was the grits, they were a bit on the salty side.

Fantastic place! Atmosphere: Cool, open, bluesy. You could go here in casual clothes or dress up a little bit and still feel welcome. Fantastic table settings. Service: Courteous, helpful, friendly, kind, and knowledgeable. The lady that helped us was quick and very nice. I was never left wanting for a refill and dishes were cleared before I knew they were even gone! She even brought a box for us right when she could tell we were finishing up. Definitely felt welcomed. I was even asked if I had a great time and enjoyed myself by whomever was fixing the lights outside on the patio. Food: Holy moly. This is GOOD soul food. It doesn’t skimp out on all those good ingredients that could make you gain 1000 pounds but it doesn’t use them in a tacky way so that you feel gross afterwards or wonder what you ate. I immensely enjoyed my fish and grits. It has been a LONG time since I have had seafood fried so wonderfully! NOT greasy and SO good. Grits were fantastic. The fried chicken I tasted was great. Fried Okra was on point. Warm bread is brought to the table. I have zero complaints. Long story short: Go here for soul food. Bring anyone from out of town to this place. You can bring your mama, a date, or your kids. When you want soul food– come get it here.

We tried Five Sister’s for lunch one afternoon. My wife and I both had the fried chicken with the following side dishes: macaroni and cheese, french fries, green beans, and pineapple coleslaw. The fried chicken was serve hot and was very tasty. The pineapple coleslaw was excellent. The macaroni and cheese was very thick and cheesy and we would rate it probably just a little above average. We did try the peach cobbler for dessert but really didn’t care for it because of the selection of spices used. The service was was attentive. My wife had one of their specialty drinks the Flora Bama Slamma which was very good. We will definitely be back to try some other selections and possibly hear some live music.

Amazing little place! We stopped in here after a day trip to Pensacola. Found this place on Unilocal and thought we would give it a try! Everyone was incredibly hospitable from the hostesses to our waiter. There are many choices, mostly southern/soul food. The meal begins with homemade dinner rolls, which were awesome! My mom had the side plate — composed of 4 side items. She had the mashed potatoes and gravy, black eyes peas, collard greens, and fried okra. All entrees come with cornbread, which is quite good. The portions were nice and everything was well seasoned. My dad had the amazing southern fried chicken with sides of mashed potatoes and cornbread dressing. The chicken is incredibly crispy and moist. Our only complaint was the dressing was a little dry. I had the pulled pork sandwich with mashed potatoes and macaroni. The pork is seriously outstanding! It is also served on a grilled bun, which I loved. It’s house smoked and comes with two delicious house made sauces. I highly recommend the pork! The Mac n cheese is good too. It has an authentic homemade taste. I highly recommend this place! It is very well kept, clean and decorated. They have live music(it was starting at 7pm when we were there). I did not try any cocktails while I was there, but they have several unique choices and are quite inexpensive for a nice restaurant. I think they were priced around $ 5.95, had very interesting and funny names and looked delicious at the table next to us! They have happy hour Tuesday through Saturday. I know wine was $ 4, but I’m not sure of the other specials, but there are definitely cheap beer specials. Check this place out!
