Visiting and found a great little stake house! The house specialties are New York strip and prime rib, and the dozen or so tables and booths surround the grilling pit that the cooks who are also the waiters provides a very cozy, home-town atmosphere. The New Yorks were a good cut(don’t think it was prime, maybe choice), the rare and the medium rare were cooked perfectly to textbook definitions. The prime rib was an excellent cut, moderately marbled, very flavorful and well prepared. We also had a calamari steak, dipped in batter and well, it was outstanding… not a tough or rubber that can be often found with such. Service was decent, especially considering the servers are the cooks, and if you need anything they’re at most 10′ away from you. We’ll go back again when in the area.

We recently moved to lake wildwood. Took a chance. Had the best dinner ever. The cook at the pit was amazing and entertaining. The staff was friendly and made us feel at home. Our steaks were perfect and portion control? NOT. The chocolate dessert was delicious. DEFINITELY a must!!!

Drinks are good. Food is horrible and overpriced. It’s amazing the bar has stayed open as long as it has. This is the dive of dive bars except it offers over priced food. They could do so much more with this place if they actually put some effort into it. Not sure about the restaurant side but if the prices are on par with the bar then all is lost for this place.

The food is good, the ambiance country-cowboy quaint and the service very good. I’d be there once before for dinner and this time went with my husband. They have a pretty darn good salad bar and the blue cheese dressing was great. My first time there, I had a rib eye steak, which was cooked to perfection on a huge grill that sits almost in the middle of the dinning room. Last night, hubby and just ordered the Cajun burgers(hamburger seasoned with Cajun seasonings). They were tasty and served with lettuce, onion, tomatoes and pickles on the side. The French were nothing to write home about. The waitress are friendly and on the ball.

We had the best steak for dinner! Watching the steaks come out to the grill was great. They all looked like prime cuts! If the quality remains at this level we will be returning often! The only thing missing was the tomatoes from the salad bar

We have always enjoyed ourselves here. My wife and I are never disappointed and the service is always good. The steaks are always cooked to perfection. I get the Ribeye and my wife gets the New York(small). We have brought the kiddos here too and they enjoyed it as well. We will continue to come back. A little weird atmosphere the first time, but once you know what to expect it is actually a really good place. I am sitting inside as I type this, waiting for another great meal. Don’t let some of the other reviews keep you away. We live in Lake Wildwood and we will be back again.

We went into the Tack Room for the second time tonight. The first time was in an afternoon and we left before eating because of a fight that was spilling into the parking lot between two patrons. We decide to try again after reading good reviews in a local newspaper. We ordered the rib eye steaks at a price that was substantial($ 22) and a half liter of the house wine. The waitress didn’t know if the wine was available. The salad bar needed restocking, they were out of baked potatoes, and the meat was tasteless, fat, and overlooked. The bread was served 15 minutes after the entre and was cold. Service was slow, water was never refilled and we were never asked how our meal was. I will NOT go back. I will go to The Willo in Grass Valley for a great dinner and good service.

The hubby and I decided to try out the Tack Room tonight. Even though the reviews were kinda sketchy, we has no kids and wanted a steak. We got there just before 6, so we beat the dinner crowd. Upon walking in, we were promptly greeted and seated.(Hey, that rhes) The server quickly took our drink order and told us about the specials for the day. My husband ordered the rib eye with salad, garlic bread, and a baked ootato. I ordered a salad and baked potato. Due to a surgery, I am unable to eat a complete meal. Since it was pointless to order my own steak, I planned on taking a few bites of his. We were even offered a second plate for me by the lady manning the indoor grill! The salad bar had a reasonable amount of toppings. Oh. …the croutons! I loved them! The croutons were homemade using sourdough bread. I would buy a bag and snack on them! After about 20 minutes or so, the steak was brought to the table fresh off of the grill! It is so great to actually see your dinner being cooked. as the hubby dove into the steak, his taste buds went crazy! The steak was perfectly cooked and served hot. The baked potatoes came with a side of butter(real butter) and a large side of sour cream. They also told us that we could go to the salad bar and grab bacon bits and cheese. Super nice Since we are kid-free, it was the perfect night to try something new. The only reason I didn’t give a 5 star review is because of the size. I think that there are less than 20 tables. I can’t wait to come back again for more steak!

Poor food, poor service, cool atmosphere; only because I like old places that take me back a few years to a more simple time. Dined here a handful of times over a couple years. Won’t go back.

Three of us guys went to the tack room for lunch last Friday. This place used to be a great place for lunch and dinner. It’s been a while since I was here. We were served lunch in an area between the bar and dining room. The place is dark drab and very uninviting to eat in. The food was OK, served in a basket. We were thinking of having dinner here sometime, but not anymore. Too bad a once great place has gone down the drain. If you can’t serve lunch the right way, don’t serve it at all.

I am not disappointed because it was exactly what I expected. I wanted to try it so we did. The ribs were DRENCHED in sauce. The New York was perfectly cooked and tasty if a little over peppered. It is your basic salad bar with fake bacon bits and a baked potato as expected. I enjoyed the hole in the wall good old boy atmosphere. All in all the food wasn’t bad just know what to expect.

Service very friendly. Old school hole in the wall… could use a good cleaning and would be cute. Food… not bad but not anything special either. Salad bar basic but nice to have real lettuce, not typical poured out of bag. I had chicken… expected a full breast but just two pieces like you would get out of a bag of frozen breast meat. Wasn’t overcooked but wasn’t anything special again. Husband had all you can eat ribs for $ 16.90, but he didn’t go beyond the first platter. He prefers pork ribs and these were beef. House red was cheap and pretty decent. By the way, I only wanted to give it 2.5 stars

Good spot off the beaten path in Gold Country. Neat-o feature is watching the staff cook your steak(or other meat) in a big open grill in the center of the small restaurant. Salad bar is seriously old school but fresh; soup was homemade and tasty. Service was fine, no issues. Would have like a beer/wine list when ordering dinner, but not a big deal. I ordered the NY Strip + Calamari steak, but they were out of the latter, so tried steak + prawns. I would go back to try other parts of the menu. Small and intimate, step in to get a break from chain restaurants. Instead enjoy some atmosphere that most folks just drive right by going to-fro on CA-20 and CA-49.

We just had a absolutely excellent meal to celebrate my parents birthdays. The service was prompt and friendly. Mom and Dad were given their choice of dessert. The raspberry cheesecake was outstanding as was the chocolate moose cake. I would definitely recommend this place as we were told about it by a friend today.

After 20+ years living here, I finally made it to the Tack Room. The place is small and funky but… I really enjoyed sitting in a booth, having a good Zin, a tasty salad with all the«stuff» I enjoy on it, and a delicious NY Steak cooked perfectly. It turned out to be a fun date and a relaxing evening! The caring service added to it for sure.

The classic dive bar with restaurant. Our person to seat us was wearing a charming hoodie as did one of the cooks. They have respectable quality steaks and surprisingly the salad was refreshing despite our waitress’s encouragement to race up to the salad bar… I think she was concerned there would be none left? The prices are very reasonable. This was old school, locals joint. Thanks for letting us drop in. Will be back

Everyone said — «Go to the Willo.» However, the Tack Room has a real salad bar — not fabulous but way good compared to the iceberg with dressing at the Willo. The steak was really good, the noise level quieter and the ambiance better — and without the Elvis clocks pointing at his gonads! Since the two restaurants are equi-distant form our house, we’ll go to the Tack Room — although I love having both available.

Interesting place. Sort of a rustic country bar look with an open BBQ pit in the middle of the dining area. Had a new york steak and it was pretty good, cooked perfect, good flavor. Salad bar was decent too. Shrimp was overpriced for what you got and wasnt that tasty. Mine had the vein left in so booo for that, doesnt take much to clean those when you butterfly them. It does get pretty cold in there at night, they need to invest in a heater.

Being that the Tack Room is the only option other than a café we went there for my grandma’s birthday. First of all, it was super cold, I was looking forward to getting there to feel the warmth of being inside, WRONG! Part of dining out is the comfort and atmosphere provided by the restaurant, not here! It was so cold inside I couldn’t even sit still. I could see how the staff who grills everything right in front of you would frown on using the heater since you could see they were not concerned about it being too cold. So I sat there and renamed it the Tacky Room! I started off with the soup of the day,(apparently vegetable soup is the soup of every day) hoping for warmth. It was blah and didn’t even serve it’s purpose! The bread was cold, service was SOOO slow and there was nothing that made me say wow! All their meat was frozen you could hear it when it was placed on the counter, so there was nothing fresh here. There is a bar next door that plays live music, I didn’t experience it, I just heard about it. Next time I am suggesting we make the drive to Grass Valley!
