I came here for lunch and I ordered sushi special #1 and it was the worst decision ever to get sushi from here. The fish were soo old and color was soooo off. They look like they’ve been there for at least 2 week-3 weeks and they taste like that too. I gave them two star instead of one because they have very impressive décor inside and good patio seating outside. The rolls were bulky however mostly rice…

I strongly advise you if you’re looking for good sushi DONOTATTENDTHISRESTAURANT! Here’s why: –not so friendly/attentive bartender –rice was not proportionate to the sushi –my dinner napkin was dirty and had a really bad smell to it –bartender was not really knowledgeable about menu items to recommend a different sushi out of the norm to us –sushi tastes below average –the sushi was served on two different plates; my sushi and my friends(not consistent) –the roll cuts were wayyyy to big –overall poor serviced restaurant I try to give restaurants with 2 stars a chance but sadly this one did not live up to that chance that I gave them. I do not recommend this restaurant the service and food has went down over the years. It used to be really good sushi but not its below average. Don’t waste your money find another sushi place in Pearland to get your sushi fix!

Came in today for my first time to try this place after my wife let me know about it. The place has quick service and very good food. I got to try the best seller called«Shaggy Dog» and it was very satisfying. The portions are good and filling. I also tried the«7 kind sushi» sampler and liked it very much. It included octopus and eel which was nice. Will definitely come back again.

Food: Steak hibachi was pretty good. The fried rice was seasoned well, although it had a bit too much oil in it. Steak was cooked exactly as ordered. Sushi was a bit overpriced, but good. Service: Hibachi chef was great — good attitude and put on a good show. The regular waiter wasn’t that interested in us being there. Other: Nearly all of the plates at our hibachi table had large chips in them and the edges were sharp. You could easily cut yourself. All of these chipped plates need to be replaced ASAP. They were mopping the floors with chemicals right when they opened. This is unappetizing — mop your floors well before you open or after you close.

My wife and I opted to go grab a bite at the last minute on Sunday. We headed down to Red Robin as we have never eaten there but when we opened the door it was too reminiscent of a Denny’s with a bar. We decided to try Shogun for the first time. It is a very attractive restaurant and generally a quiet place to dine. Be aware that the back room is where the chefs perform the culinary artistry of chopping and spinning their utensils to the glee of the diners some of whom are toddlers. So it can get loud. Menu is varied including Sushi. I had the Edamame appetizer and the Chicken Bento Box. Very good food but the service was slow. Or maybe the kitchen was slow. Our soup, salad, and appetizer were all brought out simultaneously. I don’t think the restaurant understands the concept of bringing food in some sequence. So if you eat the edamame the soup gets cold or eat your soup and let the edamame get cold. Not a good choice. My wife’s meal arrived and she politely waited. And waited. And waited. I finally encouraged her to eat before it got ice cold. 8 minutes later my dinner arrived. That’s why I say maybe the kitchen was slow. In all fairness the server stayed on top of our drink refills. This is a good place to enjoy some good food and I think the 3 stars is a decent rating. We’ll go back.

Let me start by saying this is the first time trying sushi. Did not like it. I came with a friend and tried three things. The Cali roll was the only thing I would say I liked. Overall might not come here again. That’s just my opinion, I guess I don’t like sushi. Saying that, the staff was friendly, food seemed fresh, and the atmosphere is «open». So If you like sushi I would recommend this place. Okay I was writing this as I left, the lady took the check and saw that I didn’t leave a tip(I usually do but considering I didn’t eat most of the food I thought it was good enough that I payed for it) she called me out on it. I thought that was rude so I’m taking a star.

Was my first time eating here. My party all got sushi and it was not fresh and seemed frozen. Wouldn’t recommend going here at all. We also ordered hand rolls and they use rice paper instead of seaweed. Don’t go try another place!

I ordered the Unagi bento box — the Unagi was likely frozen and then reheated, the sauce likely out of a packet. You can buy the frozen food elsewhere and make it yourself. Miso soup especially the seaweed was also instant(the seaweed was still dry and crunchy when we got it). Ambience was odd too. Some reality show was on the giant tv screen that the staff(or owner?) were watching, and the restrooms are right in the middle of the restaurant layout, the entrance being right to the side of the screen. Not really recommended.

Service is terrible here they do the bare minimum of customer service, take my order, bring out my food, and bring me the check. If we needed something we would have to wave down the waitress. The waitress also proceeded to talk ill of me towards her coworkers. Overall the service is terrible, but the food is somewhat decent.

Very fresh sushi, had Cali rolls, veg rolls, and shaggy dog rolls which rocked with flavor. Prices were ok, service ok. Recommend

Big perk of this restaurant is their menu. For pregnant ladies or new sushi patrons who only want cooked roll options, the menu is very nicely divided into cooked and raw options. Big help!!!

I feel like this is only half a review since I haven’t tried the hibachi section. However, the dining portion was clean, and the wait staff was friendly and courteous. We did not have to wait long on food and everything tasted fresh. Their sushi combo’s were great for the price. If I had one criticism, it would be a lacking of other Japanese cuisine selections other than sushi and hibachi. I would love to leave a further review once I’ve tried their hibachi experience.

Horrible Sushi, ingredients tasted cheap and not very well tasting. Came during a busy night and expected good service since the facility looks pretty well done but did not get drinks right away, appetizers took longer and sushi was 5 out of 10 on my scale. I take my sushi seriously and there is potential, but the rice texture had that old consistency and if you screw up on the rice, its gone. Waiters look flustered and had a hard time keeping up but I don’t blame them. There is a Sakura across the street and I would recommend their sushi 10x over.

The place has gone downhill fast. Went there with a couple of friend, the place was stinking, the music was too loud. We ordered appetizers and did not like them. We ended up paying for our uneaten appetizers and leaving. On the good side, the server was very friendly!

Good sushi. My favorite is the shaggy dog roll. I like the saki sampler as well. I like to go here for happy hour.

I dined here for the first time and the experience was GREAT! Our waiter was attentive(I’m sorry… can’t remember his name) and our cook(who playfully told us he was just, «The Dishwasher») was AWESOME!!! His interaction with my family was nothing short of spectacular. This was my first time at a Japanese restaurant and I was kind of squeamish to try the food but I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re looking for a new dining experience with great customer service, then this is the place for you.

(Sushi review only) I popped in for a quick lunch while in the area and sat down at the sushi bar. Décor is very Modern with new build finshes. The dining area was deserted for it being lunch time which made me a little uneasy from the start. My server was attentive and quick but it may be because I was one of 3 people dining at the time in the whole place… I ordered miso soup, seaweed salad and salmon sashimi. The miso was uneventful and bland, but that’s not usually anything new. They charge $ 2.50 for a soft drink and $ 2.50 for miso soup, so not much in expectations. Seaweed salad had a good sized portion which was nice and it was better than most places. My big gripe though is when the sashimi came out. The cuts were just really poor. Portions were large but there was a good amount of gristle to chew through that the sushi chef didn’t even bother to trim off. Freshness wasn’t ideal either, as I caught a whiff of the dreaded fish smell when good sashimi should be almost odorless. Final straw was the small bone that stabbed my gums in the last piece of fish. I put the half eaten piece of fish down and asked for my check. Even being out in the suburbs, I’m sure there are plenty of choices when it comes to sushi, and I would definitely keep this place off that list.

For a little less money than Sakura, the food here is not as good. It is still a good place to eat with plenty of portions. However, the similar menu to Sakura sets it inferior.

Came for lunch with my boyfriend. There was only 1 server, and 2 other customers in the restaurant. Décor was nice and place seemed clean. However, the quality of the sushi was terrible and not fresh. Seems like they cut costs, and are holding onto fish that should not be served to the public. A shame considering that it’s in a great location and beautifully decorated. We ordered the salmon sashimi, toro sashimi, and something else I can’t remember. The salmon sashimi came out after a short wait, but it took forever for the toro to come out. We soon found out why – the toro was still frozen. And it tasted and smelled«off». I grew up eating sushi, and have been to many sushi places in Houston – this is the worst I’ve tried. Maybe it was an off day, but I won’t be coming back.

Within the well-developed Pearland Town Center, there are many options for restaurants. Shogun is at the main entrance of the shopping plaza facing 518. They offer hibachi or regular seating. The décor is modern and all about abstract textures, like bright blue and green lights to contrast the stacked rock surfaces. The bento boxes and sushi rolls each had photos to help visualize your meal. The rice entrees came with some green onion soup and salad with Japanese dressing. The soup was so-so. Offeing an option for miso soup would have been better for those not inclined towards this taste. Shogun had the best spicy calamari I’ve had in a really long time. The squid was plump and tasty and that chipotle sauce is killer. I had the Boston roll and tried some of the teriyaki chicken rice entrée. Both were delicious. The roll was particularly filling and tasted good the next day as well. The rice was made well and it was an enjoyable meal. The service was all right, but our waiter was awkward, like he was attempting an accent that was clearly not suitable for himself nor the place he worked.
