Today my fiancé and I stopped by on our way back home to LA, we were greeted by Beth as soon as we walked in. She had offered us some cheese, bread and jelly during our tasting. All the wines were good, we ended up taking home the Meritage which was a triple medal winner. We enjoyed our visit so much I joined the wine club just so I have an excuse to visit and hopefully run into Beth again. We look forward to our next trip up north.

This is an old school mom and pop winery. I think they have been in business for thirty years or so. Proprietor Beth McCasland is one of the greatest people to ever walk the face of the earth. I just love love love this place. Join the wine club because she also knows how to throw a hella party.

If you’ve never been to Penman Springs, then you’re in for a treat(when you actually do decide to visit)! Sitting on the well-named Penman Springs Rd. off of Union Rd., the tasting room and staff are welcoming as soon as you enter. All of their wines are excellent, and very affordable prices as well(obviously more so if you’re in the wine club). Don’t skip the Meritage or the Petite Syrah! In addition to the wine, they always have bread, a couple cheeses, and dipping oils out for you to enjoy while you’re there. They’ve got shelves stocked with all kinds of oils and vinegars, and knick knacks displayed for sale, as well as art. A piano sits along the back wall of the tasting room right next to a table that will ALWAYS have a jigsaw puzzle in some state of completion for everyone to play with at their leisure. Outside is a small lawn with a corn hole game set up, and right in front of the tasting room are a couple of benches and tables with 2×4 Jenga set up. If the owner, Beth is pouring, I can guarantee that your glass will not stay empty! Give them a try, you won’t regret it!

Very welcoming mom and pop winery. Beth was so pleasant, friendly, and funny! They have some great quality wines that are reasonably priced. The«Dry Humour» is a tasty white wine. The Syrah and Petit Syrah were very good. Definitely worth the trip!

Beth is so adorably sweet! This is a winery that is worth visiting if you are in Paso! We are wine club members and enjoy all their wines! This is a down home tasting room where the conversation and wine flows freely! A+ for charm and more

This place is amazing. We went there because Paso Robles was having a wine fest. All the other wineries were charging $ 10-$ 20 for a tasting but NOT this place… it was a $ 5 donation, and all the money went to the animal shelter! They also had food and live music for no extra charge. Even after my wine tasting, they kept filling up my wine glass! The people there are soooo friendly, the wine is good and their dog«Cuteness» lives up to her name. I will definitly come back to this place… it’s like a 2nd home.

This really is a throwback to what Paso Robles wine country was like 15 years ago. Long before massive stacked stone castle-wineries were being built, tiny working farms were producing limited cases of good wine. Wine tasting in the area was about making friends, meeting the winemakers, and walking away feeling like you’ve made a lifelong friend. If that’s what you’re into, then head down the loop off HWY46 and come here. As we pulled in, there was just one other car in the lot. It was a local who supplies Penman with delicious wine jam. Yes — that’s right. Wine jam. It’s pretty delicious! While they finished up talking, I waited outside on the bench and enjoyed the sunshine. I wasn’t in any hurry. A few minutes later Cuteness, the dog, came up to greet me. After a few minutes of giving her some love, the resident cat came up say hello. Wine + Dogs + Cats = happy McKenzie Our wine tasting experience here was nice. Although only a few wines appealed to me I enjoyed the tasting experience with our wine pourer(her name escapes me — but she was from Germany!). We chatted for quite some time, sipping wine and munching on delicious bread, cheese, wine jam, and their awesome grapeseed oil. Don’t miss the grapeseed oil! Penman Springs is a must stop for those that aren’t looking for the glitter and glam of these new-age wineries.

Oh my God… this place was amazing. Beth was loads of fun, and if she wasn’t refilling your tasting glass, then she was handing you more cheese and fresh bread. I generally lean towards sweeter whites, but really enjoyed some of the more challenging reds they were serving. Skip the big name wineries… you absolutely have to check this place out! :)

Penman Springs earns its 5 stars by consistently producing good wine and superb hospitality in the quaint tasting room. Elmer was warm, friendly and deeply connected to wines. There is no pretense or attitude here and, as other reviewers note, you feel like family. We walked out with a ripe Merlot and an excellent Syrah rose, as well as a delicious bottle of basil-infused grapeseed oil. This is definitely worth a visit on the Union Road Wine Trail.

Hands down this was my favorite wine tasting experience in Paso Robles. First, the wine is great. I am not a wine snob at all. I like to just sit around and really get to taste and enjoy without the show that some winery’s put on. With Beth and Elmer pouring out tastes I felt like I was catching up with old friends. What an amazing and welcoming staff. Penman is what wine tasting should be. P. S. Cuteness is the dog that greats you, and what a cutie she is!

This is a great winery and their prices are very fair. The cheese and bread was a nice touch during the tasting. The Petite Syrah is fantastic and worthy of a case in your Cellar!

This is where all the fun grandmas hang out and you definitely want to hang with the fun grandmas. They never leave your wine glass empty for too long. The tasting room is cozy, the staff is friendly, the bread and cheese are complimentary, and the wine is great. If you’re not too intoxicated, there are puzzles, giant jenga, and a bean bag toss to occupy your time. One of my favorite wineries on the east side of Paso Robles.

Elmer is the reason to come here! We was amazing, not only his knowledge of wine in the area and throughout California, but also directed us to the different hilarious merchandise the have on hand. Great time will be had if you stop by. Now to the wines, it was a nice selection of affordable wines. None blew us away, and a few fell flat on your pallet. If it was on wines alone I’d give 3 stars, but the general ambiance made up for it. The tasting was $ 5 for 8 wines. It’s a family run place and the daughter dog roams the area.

Amazingly friendly family-run establishment(if you can even call it that… it’s more like a home with a wine bar). I think the tasting room is quite literally right next to their house! Or someone’s house, haha. As soon as I walked in, I was greeted with a glass almost half full of their«Dry Humor» white wine. It was $ 5 for a whole page worth of wines to taste, but the fee is waived if you buy a bottle. My favorite was the reserve wine — yes, I have expensive taste: P In addition to the wines, there were also interesting books, grapeseed oils, a puzzle, and other knick-knacks including a piano in the room that will keep you busy as you sip away. Definitely worth a stop along your Paso Robles wine journey!

Believe it or not, I had never been wine tasting before, and this was a lovely, nonthreatening way to have my first experience. The ladies of this winery(not a couple, though they say people mistake them for one all the time!) are just the sweetest, funniest, most helpful and down to earth people you could imagine. You really have to be a people person to stand there all day explaining the same thing over and over about your wines, but they make it look easy! It helps that they have an adorable dog who’s happy to be pet while you’re learning and sipping. Though it’s not the fanciest spot you’ll visit, it’s definitely the homiest, and surprisingly we enjoyed the wine here more than all of the larger places we visited after! We enjoyed their petite syrah and rose the most. If you’re looking for a genuine connection and an intimate experience to go with your wine, this place is a must-visit!
