My boyfriend and I decided to go to this winery yesterday and we are so happy we did. First off, the view is PHENOMENAL, and the picnic area is very open and comfortable. Second, I love that animals were allowed in the picnic area, because some wineries don’t let them come out of the car. Third, all the employees were so nice to us and they helped answer our tourist-y questions like what are some good food joints around town and etc. Our wine pourer/server was Karl and he was great. He was so informative about the wines we were tasting. I’m not much of a wine drinker so at wineries I usually feel nervous to say anything in case it is wrong. However, Karl made sure that we were comfortable and he was not a wine snob at all. I would definitely come back here!

This was our first stop on a day of wine tasting around the west valley side of Paso Robles. Calcareous is named after a limestone rock formation in the area that brings to it the distincy terroir, or minerality to their wines, especially pronounced in their whites. Meg was our tasting flight host and she was terrific. Got us loosened up with her infectious laugh and wonderful sense of humor. She was able to explain how the drought oddly is helping to create some of the best wines in decades. The vines are stressed and create smaller more intensely flavored wines than usual. Though resulting harvests are smaller the wines produced are a higher quality. The view from the tasting room and patio is amazing. Sweeping panoramas of the entire Paso Robles Winery, perfect spot for pictures and of course, sipping a nice glass of wine on the patio soaking in the view.

Great wines, helpful servers and a beautiful location. Phillipe and Denis were very informative, funny and full of interesting information. Go there!

The service and wines here are top notch! The tasting room is located on the top of a hill overlooking paso robles. Our wine pourer was awesome and she really made us feel welcome. After tasting and purchasing, we decided to buy a few glasses and enjoy the captivating outdoors space. When it was time to leave a nice gentleman insisted on carrying out our box to the car. Now that’s service.

Our favorite winery. We enjoyed a tasting here with a group of good friends and loved all 6 that we sampled. My husband and I loved it so much we joined their wine club, our first ever. I thought the service was great, we were in a group of 11; all of us left happy and with wine. The views here are spectacular and the winery is very casual. Many patrons bring their dogs and kids along. I felt as if I were visiting a good friend and her home was open for us to enjoy. My husband and I recently returned to take advantage of our free tasting and were equally impressed. This time we ordered some food and it was delicious, but double the price of what it should be. I imagine this is fairly typical of food at a winery. More wine was sampled and again, we thought it was all great. Our pourer was very helpful and sweet, we felt right at home. Wine is personal, not everyone enjoys the same flavor and style. Just because someone writes a review and does not like their wine does not mean you won’t. You should definitely stop at Calcareous, the views alone are worth it, even if you find this winery is not your personal style/taste.

Amazing spot. Husband and I spent some time in Cayucos and decided to drive over to experience the wine. Amazing. Romantic. Delicious wine. Would highly recommend the tasting and then purchasing the wine and cheese platter, taking a seat outside on the patio and spending the afternoon there :) perfect place to visit on our honeymoon!

Really enjoyed our visit to Calcareous. The views up here are great, the tasting room is airy and spacious. I found the service to be really informative and generous. Left with a Syrah and and Cab that were great. Definitely worth a stop.

Loved this place! Got a wonderful education from Denis and tasted some delicious wines. The setting is awesome with amazing views. It was a bit windy and a pretty narrow road getting there but worth the drive!

I was lucky enough to visit this beautiful establishment today, and I cannot say enough great things about this fantastic winery and the fine staff it employs. Ty was pouring for us, and he was extremely knowledgeable about the wine, and all around a great person to chat with. He was very kind and helpful as well, giving us plenty of suggestions on dining and other stops that we would enjoy. I cannot wait to return! Well done. Btw, shout out to Karl, thanks for taking the time to take some pictures for us. It was a pleasure meeting you guys!

The views are really beautiful. And I think if we came during the week, we would have had an even better time, but we came on a relatively busy weekend(Valentine’s weekend) and it was packed. We were still able to get a table outside, but the number of annoying folks around us was high. The tables and chairs are not set up so you can maximize the view — they are set back a way from the edge of the premises and not very movable. Perhaps it was because they were so busy, but the help inside pouring wine was just eh. Not very charming and their smiles were forced. Very different from most of the wineries we visited. We were also not very impressed with the wines. They are quick to point out their awards and high reviews, but we just didn’t dig them. Still, worth going for the view.

We stopped at this winery for lunch/wine testing and the view on Wednesday and turned out to be a bad experience. The wine was okay but the service was terrible. First, they were not serving lunch since it was a week day and they said that lunch is only served on weekends. Then they offered to bring the wine to us outside of the tasting room but no one ever showed up so I had to go back in. None of the people there seem too interested in providing good service. My wife and I decided to never visit this winery again due to their poor service.

This place has an awesome view! Bring a picnic or they serve food on the weekends. Perfect place to spend some time. That said, the wines are good. I’m no expert but of the six we tried I bought two and I’m not a pricey wine kind of girl, so that’s saying a lot. We live four hours away and this one would be on my rerun and visit list.

We visited Calcareous today, and I’ve been waiting all day to write this review. My mother and I had a wonderful time! We loved their wines, their property and the views. It was a little cold to sit outside and enjoy the views with our wine but we were seated at a great table for our wine tasting with a cheese platter we ordered, and it was still amazing, and we were warm! I have to talk about the gentleman who assisted us, and I am so so sad I did not get his name. So, I apologize for the description but I really want everyone to know how amazing and wonderful he was! So, he was the older gentleman there, he was telling us a funny story, which includes him mentioning he is the oldest employee(I think he said 65 yrs old) of Calcareous. I hope that helps! He was such a delight!!! He gave a great tasting, with a background on each wine. He told us why the winery was named calcareous and the entire story behind the winery, the two buildings, and the family. We really enjoyed our time here! Our favorite wines were the Chardonnay, ZSM and Cab. Thank you Sir, for such an amazing time today! Definitely a must see and taste when in Paso.

Calcareous is fantastic. The staff here is so knowledgeable that you’ll at least walk away with a great understanding of the area, but if you’re anything of a wine lover, you’ll probably leave bearing a couple bottles of their stuff. The ZSM is one of my favorites, but their Moose is also extremely complex and flavorful. Views are amazing here, so I highly recommend a wine and food tasting between 12−3pm. Do a tasting, get a couple of bottles, enjoy the sunset. You can’t go wrong. It’s a little off the beaten track too, so you won’t be waiting in line for a tasting. Plus, the pours are pretty generous. The only thing is that the road here is quite dangerous(lots of blind corners). You’ve been warned. Did I mention they also do fancy dinners and wine hours here too? Win.

I visited Calcareous for the second time yesterday on a breezy & bright Sunday afternoon. Even though the wine selection had changed a bit, I loved it as much as the first time. No lines, no wait, no crowds. Easy going and knowledgeable staff that guide you through a wine tasting before you even realize that’s what you’re doing. Generous pours, very good prices, and the wine is absolutely delicious. Then when you’ve picked your glass, walk outside and grab a table on the lawn and enjoy a gorgeous view of the entire valley. And don’t forget the cheese plate, it goes great with any of the wines. I don’t think a Sunday can get any better. The tasting was also very informative. I learned that I prefer full-body reds, and since I know next to nothing about wine, I was very happy to take this piece of information with me after our visit. Do yourself a favor and try the York Mountain cab. One of the best reds I have ever tasted

What a beautiful view from up here. I’m surprised this is averaging four stars. From what we experienced, the service, wine and atmosphere is definitely among the best that we went to in Paso Robles. If we had more time, I would have packed a picnic lunch as the views from the patio tables were really amazing. The wines are among the pricier ones we tried — in the $ 40 – 75 range. The tasting itself is $ 10 but you need to buy at least 3 bottles for them to comp it. They actually comped it for us, even though we bought only one bottle, because we went during their wine club event and they weren’t able to give us their full undivided attention. Like I said, great service here. I would definitely recommend this winery but(shhhhh!) you can actually find some of their wines at Total Wines & More for a cheaper price. So drink up your tasting, then check Total Wines first before purchasing bottles here.

Amazing wine tasting experience. Our party enjoyed all of their wines and the host Jacqui was awesome too. We went on a Tue but wed night they stay open late for tasting so you can watch the sunset. Really gorgeous view!

Beautiful vineyards with a bocce ball court. What more could you ask for? Loved the Chardonnay — nice and buttery just the way I like it!

Not nearly as smitten as I am with Daou, but they offered us both free tastings here. Of the flight, the last 2 were the most interesting. Overall not bad wine sampled. Quite warm day indeedy and no more shade tables left. Part of their landscaping was obstructing the view from their own hill; best few words of advice: try to find a table(shaded) along the ledge… Tasting room itself, servers were just alright in disposition. Didn’t care to explain too much without my prompting. Tsk

STUNNINGVIEW of Paso. Drive up this mountain for the wine but stay and hang out for the view. In the distance you can see horseback riders(add that to my Paso Robles checklist please). There are tables and benches out near the mountain side so you can take in the beauty while you drink and eat. I think I saw people bing their own picnics. Great idea. Just imagine how magnificent this will be once we’re through the drought. I recommend you add this to the wineries on your Paso checklist. Odds and Ends: — great wine and lunch pairing deal for two — excellent check in offer — compared to other wineries the service was just average — did I mention the stunning view?
