We stopped in here for breakfast and wow! The food was great down-home cooking and every employee was as nice as could be! The pancakes were probably some of the best I’ve ever eaten … and our server Lisa was fantastic! Highly recommend stopping by!

Great place for breakfast! Not pretty but clean and extremely affordable. I haven’t been there for lunch or dinner but it’s definitely worth a trip for breakfast.

My food has been pretty tasty the three or four times I’ve come here in the past few months. Been happy with the chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, and green beans, as well as with the fried eggs, bacon, hashbrowns and bottomless coffee. The problem is the place needs a total renovation. Nothing has been updated or remodeled or cleaned particularly well since the 1980s when it was The Kettle. The bathrooms are a 3rd-world horror show. I feel sorry for the hard-working waitress who has to work in such demoralizing shabbiness. The food & service are quite good, so it is a terrible shame that one glance at the soggy tissue-paper flapping from the dirt-crusted AC vent on the wall above the buffet makes me want to vomit.

I hate to leave a bad review for this restaurant because it seems like a «local yokel» kinda place where everyone knows your name and life story. We were given exceptional service and even listened to the life story of our waitress a few times. Everyone was friendly, nice and we were never without refills or anything we needed. I just wish the food was as good. We decided to stick with the buffet as the menu was overwhelming and we were starving. It was hot and had plenty of options available from regular eggs, eggs with toppings, bacon, sausage, pancakes, french toast, hashbrowns, home fries, biscuits and gravy, oatmeal, fresh fruit, toast and a few other things. The spread was diverse and I do love a big breakfast. My biggest complaint was the salt content and quality of the food. My eggs were not great, my bacon and sausage were saturated with salt, my biscuits were hard and my gravy was chunky. Our waitress did offer to replace anything on the buffet that was old or bad but I really couldn’t find one appealing thing up there. Even the cantaloupe in my fresh fruit bowl was grayish and wasn’t as fresh as it should have been. I left full, the bill was relatively cheap for a breakfast buffet and the service and friendliness of the staff was spot-on but the food was bad. It was truck-stop buffet quality and I’ve been to a lot of truck-stop buffets. Sorry Skillet’s, I won’t be back.

Cheap eats and usually big portions served. I enjoy coming here. Yes, sometimes they are shorthanded and have bad days, but I’m sure we all do. :)

I had the chicken fried steak breakfast. All I could say about it was the toast was good. Everything else was inedible. My husband got the buffet. The meat was so raw, A good vet could have saved that pig. Service was decent but slow. Will not be returning, ever.

Skillet is the bomb. Everything you’d want in a old diner plus a breakfast buffet. All the wait staff are really nice too.

Ok, so I decided to give this place«ONEMORE» try. I was in the mood for a rueben sandwich and this is the only place I know of close that sells them. It was very obvious that the chef was new, possibly never cooked anything before in his life. The rueben didn’t come on rye like it’s supposed to. Started eating it anyway. Noticed there was no sauerkraut to go with what looked like corned beef, but I could tell it was some kind of dried beef. what kind I have no idea :/… Sent it back for no sauerkraut and overly dried meat. Sent it back again to change out meat and I don’t think it was ever changed out. Looked the same. .overdried beef cut like BBQ in a bbq place. We were served by one of the waiters we have had serve us many times since 1999, Paul. The server attire has pretty much gone to ‘biker style handkerchiefs” on their heads. I thought it was just totally trashy how bad this restaurant has gotten. I have nothing against bikers. In fact, I have many friends who are and are very nice people, but this is not the place for it. A biker bar or the like, yes, at Skillets, no! I rarely see any of the old timers here anymore as well, inside or out. It was like a small town oldtimer meeting place. Those older retired men who would tell great stories over a cup of coffee. One of the things I loved about going there. Now pretty much gone. Skillet’s was once crowded at dinner time and did a great breakfast too. They have even taken out their buffet. Sad this place has gotten so bad. I have gone to Kelley’s across the street. Though they don’t have reubens, they have excedllent choices of food and more than enough to take home. You can get throug a skillets meal, easting slowly and be done in less than 10 minutes. Yes, it’s that bad… This time I give them no more chances.

Based on the good reviews I read about this place here on Unilocal,I decided to give it a try this last time I was in Pasadena. The restaurant is nice and clean inside, and has a comfortable atmosphere. We were greeted the moment we walked in and were told to sit anywhere we liked. The lady who greeted us came around to our table promptly and was very friendly and informed us of the all-you-can-eat luch buffet we were welcome to help ourselves to if we preferred. We decided to order from the menu. The menu has a nice selection. I ordered the migas, which comes with refried beans, seasoned skillet potatoes, and tortillas, and my stepdaughter ordered a ham and cheese croissant with hash browns. Our food came quickly. I didn’t receive my refried beans or potatoes, so I had to ask for my beans. I wanted the potatoes too but my stepdaughter decided she didn’t want her hash browns so I ate them instead. The food was just so-so, nothing to really write home about. It’s fairly cheap; it was about $ 17 for the both of us to eat, including drinks. From start to finish, service was exceptionally friendly.

What can I say: Awesome breakfast! I love this place for the quick and personal service. I usually have breakfast here regardless of the time of day I go; although, the burgers are great and there’s usually a special entrée. I always prefer to dine in a locally owned and operated business, much better than the big chains that often dominate the market. Here they’ll know your name!

Older restaurant, looks dated but it is clean. Very good breakfast. I always order the early bird special off of the menu. They have a breakfast buffet on the weekends. They serve the royal cup coffee brand, excellent coffee. Service has always been great. Prices are very reasonable. They have a good lunch selection as well. I normally get the Philly cheese steak sandwich and fries, its pretty good. The ice tea is good and they keep the glass full.
